I’ve been wishing for this for a long time. I say all the time that I don’t always play self-inserts and that I don’t always play a romance route - and although much of that is due to the fact that I genuinely enjoy “trying on” different kinds of character experiences, some of it is due to the fact that most games won’t let me do both at once.
It wouldn’t have to start with the RO being sexually aggressive, either. A prospective RO reaching for my hand, giving me the choice to pull away in disgust, pretend I didn’t notice, give a quick friendly squeeze, cling for dear life, or sensually intertwine my fingers with theirs would be all it took to set the tone for our future interactions.
I’m actually surprised this isn’t more common already, since a lot of readers enjoy the power fantasy of being wanted and pursued. It would also be a great way to normalize characters being able to handle rejection, which is something we all too rarely see in any form of media.
(That said, I would like to add that, although I agree that a character who would rather be the pursued than the pursuer shouldn’t necessarily be depicted as reserved or inexperienced, I don’t think it’s necessary to equate reserve and inexperience with prudery or immaturity, either.)
