Phoenix Rising | (updated - 09/15/23) (WIP) | Imperial Chinese Harem Political Intrigue

That one’s been explained in prior posts, but there’s no reason to avoid explaining again.

Since you read through until the end of what’s available, you did see that the MC’s mother is technically a kept mistress meant only for the pleasure of the household’s head. Stating that this man is the MC’s father is close to meaningless due to how lowly they, and their mother are treated by everyone else, even other servants of the house. Why would anyone waste even a copper on the MC to give them an education? That stat suffers because the only way MC truly learned anything was by covertly borrowing books, and educational resources to struggle their way up to what they potentially have.

MC’s father, meanwhile, wouldn’t favor them over the children of his legitimate wife even if MC showed a lot of potential for scholarship. It would be something unacceptable, or worse–a huge embarrassment for a woman of social rank to have her children be less appreciated than those of a mistress. The MC didn’t stand a chance, sad to say.

I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure that you’re giving a choice after he threatens you. One of the choices turns off the “permanent maiming” feature. Though I don’t know if the other option actually maims you.

It doesn’t yet but if i get it right it’s only because this content isn’t yet implemented.

Yanxi palace is my favorite harem drama after Legend of Zhen Huan. Good Luck with your project:heart::heart:

Actually it did happen, the choice went through with it when the demo was first posted ( and if i remember well, the scene was quite gory ) but the author decided to explore more about disabilities before including them.

Holy shit, thank you so much! This is incredibly detailed! I’ll take all of it into consideration for the next round of edits!

Lady Umbreon is absolutely correct here!

Yes! It would! In the finished version of the story, there’s going to be an option to play a disabled protagonist. That is to say, this is the option you would take if you wanted to play a Mute protagonist! But right now, for the demo, I don’t have it enabled, just some of the framework, hence it doesn’t really go anywhere.

This right here! yep!

Thank you so much! I haven’t seen Legend of Zhen Huan. Is it any good? What’s the story?

Thank you for noticing this! I was quite proud of that scene. Writing gore is one of my favorite things to do, but I haven’t had the chance to stretch those wings in this story yet! (also, your Deku PFP is adorable.)

Oh, the story is about a girl who is selected to go to the harem of the emperor Yongzheng and how she rise the ranks despite everything and everyone going against her. It’s a super popular show in China.

I am assuming this should be 7.5 chapters.

Actually, no, it’s POINT 75. As in three fourths. As in three quarters of the way through the first chapter. And even that is a… VERY generous estimate.

Answered some questions regarding the MC’s family on Tumblr:

Anonymous asked:
Hi, I have some questions! I hope you don’t mind if I ask them.

How old Is Mc’s mother? Does she have any family? Does Mc’s brothers have names?

Hi!

Thanks so much for this question!

A) I don’t really have an age in mind for her, as she’s really not that important to the story… But >I’d argue that she’s probably pretty young, and also that she does have family, almost all of whom are in service to the MC’s father’s family, and therefore not in a position to complain about how she and MC are treated.

B) They do!

Father: [PC Surname] Xingdu
Di-wife mother: Lin-Furen
Eldest Brother: [PC Surname] Buhan
Middle Brother: [PC Surname] Bujing
Birth Mother: Shun Jiasing-Yiniang

(furen and Yiniang are titles, not actual names.)

C) an extra bonus:
the Mc’s family background is meant to be pretty ambiguous, but I had gone into it thinking that the father was something of a minor noble/deputy minister in court. Therefore, the reason he hasn’t taken Shun Jiasing-Yiniang as a concubine and given her her own section of the house, is because he straight up can’t afford to. So, MC’s mother is stuck in a hell-like Limbo. She has all the duties of a maid and concubine, and none of the protections of either position. This translates to her child being… well. Unfortunate.

More Tumblr Replies:

This is 100% already planned to be an option in the game. No worries, I too wish to be Su Daji-esque and terrifying.

[Su Daji, if anyone was curious]
My first introduction to Su Daji was in Houshin Engi, an early 90s anime, where her name was spelled So Dakki. I loved her SO GODDAMN MUCH. She was so evil. XD
But yeah! I definitely intend to give the option of being a poisonous, calamitous beauty who brings ruin to the Empire!

(on another note, TV Tropes needs a page for Calamitous Beauty as a trope. it’s used sooooo often, and I can’t find any references. TAT So sad.)

Hell, being even half as evil as Daji would be an achievement.

Another Tumblr Answer:

Anonymous asked:

Who are the big spoons and who are the little spoons out of the ROs?

Everybody’s so curious about the ROs! You guys really wanna know a lot about them, but I’m trying to keep some things rather secret for now, so if you don’t see me answering your questions about them, just know it’s because that answer is either A) not created yet or B) might spoil something important! As for this though, this is easy!

Big spoons:

  • Qin Bolin - Bolin has had a tough life, and really feels the need to hold onto what is theirs. Therefore, you’re probably tucked under their chin and held closely whenever possible.
  • Kavar/Kavari/Kazhad - Spending their time travelling around often leaves them feeling a bit adrift. Holding on to something while they sleep actually helps them to sleep better, so you’d probably end up the little spoon quite often. (plus their foreigner physique is a bit bigger than yours anyway!)
  • Xiong Ning - The doctor has a bit of a self-image problem, and so feels better (I.E. stronger/more masculine, however you wanna put it) as the big spoon. They often find themselves anxious if someone else is holding them.

Little Spoons:

  • Zhu Wenqian - This guard starts out as big spoon, but the longer you get to know them, you begin to realize they don’t WANT to be big spoon, they think they HAVE to be. They are MUCH happier being squished up against your chest. Trust me on this.
  • Hao Chengling - The ruler of a nation has many things on their shoulders at all times. And so therefore, as much as they might want to be strong at all times, it is nice for them not to have to. Hao Chengling will be the big spoon, sometimes, especially if you have been hurt or need something solid to rely on, but they much prefer being little spoon.

Excuse me, The Sassanid are not an egyptian nor byzantine in culture. They are persian empire. And their control over egypt only lasted as brief occupation at 7. C.E. I think you’re confusing Persian with Egyptian or Byzantine as seen in Kavar R.O Intro

Holy wow! Thank you so much for that info, because you are absolutely right! To be honest to figure out what country our diplomat RO was from, I just did a quick Wiki dive and im definitely not an expert in this! Would you happen to know a country that would fit better for this rough time period? I don’t want to default to Europe, like most sources that use that Tang Dynasty.

So if we join the imperial harem, will being a male MC make all other concubines male as well, or will a male mc be the only male in the harem, or will the harem be a mix between different genders

Are you planning on adding saves? Getting a bug and having to reload the page wouldn’t be so bad if I could save my progress and not have to play the game from the start all over again

Thanks for asking! The plan right now is for every concubine to have a defined gender, EXCEPTING the Empress/Emperor Consort/Ruler Consort, who is planned to always be the opposite gender of Hao Chengling (the Emperor/Empress/Ruler) for reproductive purposes.

That said, a lot of things are in flux, and I’m not 100% sure of anything yet. Obviously, the goal is to simulate an actual Harem, where the reproduction of the Imperial Bloodline is most important, followed closely by the pleasure of the Ruler/Emperor/Empress, and lastly with the political atmosphere of the Dynasty.

As soon as I can figure out how to update the Choice Script that I’m using? Absolutely! Until then, I have no idea how to add that, so I’ll be relying on the websites that I upload the demo to for that. Sorry, I know a lot of people want that, but honestly, I just don’t have that level of coding skill yet.

Can we pull a Wu Zetian and take over the empire and found our own dynasty?
