I love hearing this! Thank you so much, I’m very glad that you enjoyed it!

Either we stay at two nickels or I double down and make it a recurring joke. Knowing me, either options are as likely.

The order of the mini heists is random to add some variability to playthroughs (though, I don’t mind making an option to make them selectable if that’s something people would like). But if my design idea holds, you shouldn’t have too much trouble seeing all of them in a single playthrough. Did that answer the question? I’m not sure if I understood it exactly.

It does answer the question. I mainly asked because a lot of the time, the design intent behind randomized events in games like this is to have some scenes be completely unavailable in a single playthrough for replayability padding reasons. Not a bad practice, but it does tend to make some scenes less talked about than others depending on what rolls more easily for the majority of readers/testers.

Oh, I understand yes. I actually think I might have the opposite problem. My instinct is always to make too little that I think is super cool avoidable, which is a problem for obvious reasons.

My interest in the randomness is more because I think it adds another layer to the planning if you can’t necessarily know what event is going to pop up. But I do want people to be able to see all the events if they focus on the mini heists.

I’ve actually been thinking it might be fun to add a post game free roam thing, so you can do the things you missed. Maybe add some content that is based on your endstate. It’s still just a thought though. We’ll see.

So our sibling will eventually end up bankrupt if we don’t act?

First heist is out! It’s huuuuge, and has a ton of variation big and small.

Here’s a couple things you can do this time:

  • Meet the last RO, you rival who can also be your ex and is currently wanting to kill you for something you supposedly did.
  • Learn more about what your brother’s plan is. You should’ve seen it coming, he’s a billionaire. Of course he’d do that.
  • Jump off a skyscraper with four different methods of not hitting the pavement.
  • Dance with all your ROs, except the barista, who still gets a small scene nonetheless.
  • Learn two HUGE secrets about two ROs. One is relatively easy to get, but the other is really hard. Here’s a hint: be shy and always say the thing your brain shouldn’t say out loud to your crush.
  • Explore the catacombs beneath the city and maybe be visited by a ghost! Maybe. Do they even exist?

There is a lot going on here this time, so forgive any bugs or mistakes. I’m sure there’s going to be a ton, the heist is very complex and this is the largest update yet. Anyway, hope you all enjoy it!

The update is great, thou the flags for what we tell the detective when hiring them are switched and stats screen is broken for sleeping powder and fingertips swiping kit if I am not wrong

Already took a look! Thanks you! The sleeping powder and fingertips had switched variables and another clue for the heist was also wrong. The detective’s flags weren’t switched, but not telling them anything also had the true flag.

Already fixed, thanks a bunch!

Inconsistency in minor heists

The text says four digits, but the password only has three (and you get an error if you try to put in four).

Thanks! Fixed it now, will push it to public in a few days, so I have time to wait for more reports and can push them all at once.

I’ve only read the prologue so far but I’m enjoying it a lot. This is really fun!

random small typos as requested

missing capitalization on second light

“out of site” seems like it should be either “out of sight” or “offsite”

(choosing to know tech) – breath of knowledge → breadth of knowledge

Also, “EMP” seems like it’d work better than “EMPulse”

(using vent to avoid patrol) – extra space at the end

missing a “the” in the second sentence

image

should this be descending instead of ascending?

image

capitalization on “lord”

on your car → in your car and forth → fourth

detective → detective’s

wen → went

image

bit → bite and wha → what or wha the → wha

superhoine → superheroine

Extra space after hook

Typos fixed! Will push soon.

Thanks a bunch, this was super helpful!

Np! You caught me in the middle of making a new comment lol.

Read up to beginning of the gala now; still finding this very fun. I think the minor heists might be my favorite part so far

typo stuff

Interlude - LeNoir page when listing possible leaks - missing space in last sentence

Chapter 1 - prince → a prince

How the fuck → what the fuck

state → estate

Chose to discourage Remy’s flirting; should this be “mon ami/amie”? IIRC calling someone “mon ame” is like calling them your soulmate

Dres → dress

Gala outfit heist - looks like something going on with multireplace?

bing → being

Asking detective for help with a chupacabra - sooths-> soothes

Embarrassed
Loss

You mask → your mask
Pretigious → prestigious

I took way too long to read this update, this is amazing.

Going into the heist I was expecting to trip over myself and fumble my way to defeat, but due to an expensive (no that wasn’t a typo) amount of preparation, I made it through. It was pretty awesome seeing just how many things you could do. I never knew I needed a story like this, all the different options to be absolutely stylish are wonderful.

Highlights of some of my favorite moments! (Spoilers)

Well damn, take all the warmth and drama out of this reunion why don’t you?

image
For the record, not the choice I wanted to go with, but this seemed like it would be too funny not to see

With a name like that, could anybody have expected anything more of me really? On a related note, I like to imagine my character is completely unaware of how his name is a pun, partially due to being dense, partially because he’s used an alias for so long.

This is both hilarious and a really sad look into how this little kid’s grown up after being in such a messed up family.

Okay now I’m curious.

Now I’m REALLY curious. Now I need to do two playthroughs to see where this goes

Dude-

Why Go-Gal is Best-Gal (More spoilers)

Wait why does that description sound familiar? I can’t imagine why someone would wear a suit that big-

image
Now hold on a second, is she pulling a Clark Kent?! This seems so obvious when you stop and look at her, how has nobody managed to figure out- oooohhhhh, just like Superman.

I’m sorry, superheroes are real and prominent in the world, but ghosts are a line too far to believe?

Oh I love Go-Gal so much. Also I can’t believe I didn’t realize I’ve started a Batman-Catwoman dynamic, surely that can’t create a conflict of interest!

Please let me hug her. Please let me hug her. Please let me hug her. Please let me hug her.

image
If that doesn’t summarize some of the best options in the game, I don’t know what does.

I gotta get more of this story, please, please keep up the good work.

First off, although I haven’t gotten it “officially” yet, I think I know what the journalist’s secret is and if it turns out it’s another secret that is revealed, I’m quite certain she’s also got the secret I’m thinking of. It seems quite obvious and I’m surprised I didn’t think of it sooner.

I’ve also discovered that during the “surprise meeting” with my MC’s fence, the he pronoun turned up a lot during the conversation even though I’d made the fence female and I think this also may be the case for a couple of the dialogue options when(and if) the MC returns to the fence after the first heist.

Personally I’d also like it if it was a little bit easier to have a proper conversation with your rival at the end of the MC’s second heist. It was hard to get a handle on what stats the different dialogue options used and even when I thought I had it figured out, it often seemed to make no difference.

But apart from that I really enjoy the WIP. I really like the customization options for the MC and find the other important characters interesting and enjoyable to interact with, apart from possibly the rival, who was such a pain in the neck and the plot also is quite interesting. Most importantly, it’s got a lot of replay value, so much that I think I can start it all over when next update arrives without getting exhausted the way I often get with more linear WIPs.

Okay, fixed all that too, thanks once again.

The mon ame is an unfortunate coincidence actually. If you look at the rest of the game, all the “french” is off, because it’s all actually supposed to be a monstrous combination of a lot of romance languages but with french as the strongest clear point of reference. “Ame” was me doing that, but unwittingly stumbling into an actual french word I seemingly forgot about. I’ve changed it to “mon pote” for now.

OMG! Yes! You went with Robin Banks, I’m so happy! Them being unaware of it is hilarious.

I’m glad you’re enjoying Go-Gal! Don’t worry, hugs are on the way. Also if you want to try something funny, there’s a secret thing you can do. Try calling her mommy, then choose the shy flirty options during Ann-Marie’s interview.

I’m glad that that phrase stuck with you, because it’s very much how I want the game to be played. There is an alternative ending to the gala heist if you go completely undetected, which you can! But IMO the ending most people are going to get is faaaar more fun!

The feeling you’re describing about the reporter is exactly what i wanted people to feel, haha.

I hunted down the errant pronouns, I think I wrangled all of them, but do post them if you find more. Coming from a gendered language, it’s hard to switch off the male pronoun bias when you really get in the zone while writing since it becomes so automatic.

Can you be more clear about what you mean? If I understood you, I should make something clear: there are no stat checks in this game. There is no: you need X amount of Y personality trait to succeed on this option. Your success here, like in most other heist challenges, is based on you trying to suss out the right option. To convince Carmine, you have to say the right things to them based on what you know about them and the situation, basic logic, and also emotional intelligence. You need to pacify them past two dialogue options, then during the third you need to actually give a pragmatic or emotional reason for them to trust you which is influenced by your choices so far.

Anyway, I’m glad you’ve enjoyed it so far!

Thanks for letting me know that the dialogue options are not personality checks. I assumed that they were all testing a particular personality trait, so I just went with those that seemed to fit with the strongest personality traits of my MC, even though others seemed more reasonable. Knowing this I will, as a general rule, use dialogue options that seem more reasonable and/or relevant in the current situation instead of trying to figure out which dialogue options seem to fit with the strongest personality traits of my MC and use those.

I tried to steal Remy’s invite, but didn’t get a scene where it said so nor the opportunity to read it.
