I throughly enjoyed reading your story, and when I got to the end of the demo my thought was, “No! I want to read more!”

I am not familiar with wuxia, but your story so far as been easy for me to follow.

At first I was confused at the end of Chapter 2 when no matter what decision we blacked out, but then that last line made we wonder if it was the incense, which I see now you’ve confirmed here in the forum. I don’t know if you want to have a line clarifying it was the incense in Chapter 3, or leave it for the reader to discover.

Couple of minor questions

I am a little confused about a couple minor details. In one sentence we are described as “the picture of a high-ranking guard at the Su residence.” but later when meeting Miss Su’s parents we are described as “a lowly guard”. I presume there is a guard hierarchy where we are high enough to guard the daughter but not high enough to guard the parents?

Another pause for me is one description of our character’s thoughts on Miss Su is “Though from what little you know about her…” but then shortly later a description says “You thought you got to know her quite well in your time here.” The two descriptions just seem to contradict in my brain.

Again, this could all be from my ignorance of wuxia.

Question About Tense?

I am not an expert on proper tense, so if these are my mistake I apologize.

When picking the Farmer Background and the option “To Rebuild” our character says, “I do regret it sometimes.” and then in the next paragraph says, “I had regretted that decision many times in the past years.”

Should it be “I have regretted that decision many times” since we say “I do regret it sometimes.”?

When picking the Noble background and then “My life would’ve been over” our character says, “I would have roamed the streets and eventually, starve to death.”

Should it be “starved to death?”

One description says, “It is rather overwhelming, but you knew that the mission won’t be an easy one from the moment you accepted it.”

Should it be “wouldn’t be an easy one”?

Another description says “You feel as if you had gone back in time to several years ago when you had started training with your peers at Yinshan.”

Should it be “You feel as if you have gone back in time?”

I did notice maybe one minor punctuation error. For the decisions “He will protect me well.” and “She will protect me well.” both options seem to be missing the first quotation mark.

Again, looking forward to future updates, and thank you!

EDIT: Please ignore my punctuation comment, as I realize now the choices are a continuation of the above spoken line. My apologies for the confusion.

EDIT 2: Added screenshots for (hopefully) more clarity

Thank you for the feedback, I appreciate it

Regarding your questions:
  1. You are right that there is a certain hierarchy to the guards at the residence. I’ll see if I can reword it a bit better.
  2. This one is my mistake! I remember I rewrote this passage a few times, though I have no idea how I missed such an obvious contradiction.

As for the weird tense, thank you for pointing those out! English is not my first language and past tense can get a bit tricky. I’ll fix those with the next update!

Demo Update: 30 March 2025

Find out what the Manor has in store for you in chapter 3.

There is now an option to start a new game through “quick start”, which lets you set up some variables and then start at the beginning of ch2 or ch3.

I have also added a cheat mode, which (if turned on) helps you pass some skills checks that you might not pass otherwise. However, you will have to start a new game for it to work.

Features:

  • 27k words of new content
  • learn more about your hosts
  • test your wits
  • spend some time with the ROs
  • live to see another day

Enjoy!

@wizim totally unrelated question for you, but, have you ever considered about writing a demo in the future about 奪嫡 for future projects? I mean, as far as how this Imperial Chinese theme demo goes, it’s quite good.

Took me a while, I know

Do you mean like a palace setting? Sorry, I tried my best to figure out those two characters, but I’m afraid my Chinese is not very good

Thank you for the kind words, as always  And what can I say? I love cliffhangers

Happy to hear that!

Ah! Sorry, my bad. But yes, basically a palace setting where you’re a Prince who would compete with your older and potentially younger siblings for the position of Crown Prince and the Imperial Throne. There could be several settings for both the Prince as with the emperor: the Prince could be in a state where he has no support from his mother (not the empress) nor his mother’s family and allies (as his mother died early, and the fact that he was never loved by the Emperor, and that the Emperor never paid attention on him), the Emperor on the other hand could be a paranoid man whose sole motive was to preserve his own power on the throne, using all sides to balance each other out, or he could be a wise emperor who had always been too busy to solidify both the dynasty’s rule over original and newly established lands, while desperately trying to make sure that his sons and daughters would never fall victim to power games or plots. I hoped I could show you some examples, but the real pain in the arse is that none of these example novels had a complete translation.

I’m getting an error if I try escaping via rooftops when inspecting the bodies and trying to cover it up, but that’s the only issue I’ve had so far.

Before I get to far into this, as other wuxia wips are straight only, is this as well?

May add, not keen yet as keep being disappointed by wuxia titles so far.

Ah yes, then I thought correctly!

That could be a fun IF to write, but a challenge for sure. I won’t say I wouldn’t be up for it in the future, but… don’t know if I’d do the setting justice. Palace politics can be really confusing

Could you perhaps share what does the error message say? I’m not getting any errors when I play through it, so I’m not sure what it could be. Also, are you playing on cogdemos or itch?

Nope, there are no restrictions, so you can romance whoever you want!

Thank you for your hardwork
Any chance that you’ll enable scenes viewing on cogdemos?

It was cogdemos. After replaying to replicate it, it worked fine-
I’m not entirely sure what it was, something about falling out of an argument. I think I managed to somehow make my qingong out of what was expected for that interaction and it caused that but I didn’t think any option gave me more than I had before picking strengths.
I’m not sure if the checks are for exact numbers or for like greater than > or less than <

Well, what do you wish to know? In regards to palace politics? Ain’t sure if it’s different though, but I’ll see if I can answer that problem?

I just want to say I enjoyed the demo ^

It’s really great after playing the demo normally I just noticed the cheat mode I’m about to try it but this game is great

You can view them now.

Yeah, that seemed to be the problem. It should be working now.

Not a particular problem, I just meant in general

My understanding of how the court and inner palace work is superficial, most of the time I’m just lost in who is who, their ranks and relations… There’s always a lot of stuff going on, so I sometimes have a hard time keeping up

The cheat mode is a new addition  Let me know if you encounter any problems or errors!

That I can definitely understand, politics and courts are a real pain in arse that will definitely do no good and embarrass yourself while trying find which way is your head and arse facing.
