Mage Elite (Scifi/Fantasy) (PUBLIC BETA)

Is it a single slot or am I not seeing them?

The magic part in Magic and Aliens is a bit bland tbh. At least it felt so to me.

@Empress_Nightmare OK, I added 2 more save slots (only 1 previously). That should at least be enough for a game of this size?

I guess the magic system really didn’t quite live up to its full potential. It felt like a much better idea when I was planning it, but it turned out to be quite difficult to implement if it was a truly impactful / customizable system. Then it got less and less important to the story’s structure overall, until it was mostly just adding flavor to the combat scenes. However, I think in the last chapter there are some good/impactful moments for spell choices. Also the very first magic combat scene seems to function alright to me.

However, I guess the main focus of the story turned out to be the alien war itself / the relations within the party/team/class. I feel like the story could be revamped to function a bit better (mostly in terms of how the magic works), but that could take away focus from the other parts of it. I probably won’t make any major changes to how the game works anymore.

Although if there’s some specific issue about how the magic works, I could quite possibly change it still?

@Zaldath although it’s bit underwhelming for thr hype the way the spells depends on the personality is kind of a nice touch.

Heh yeah, I’ll probably de-emphasize the magic aspect in the final game description.

I think you can simply call them abilities and energy instead… After all the supposed magic and those spells come from the crystals or something those aliens make…

Well yeah, that’s true. To be specific, magic in this setting is more like the Force in Star Wars - a special form of energy that connects all living beings. Only sentient beings can use it though, and it requires magic crystals (created from living beings by the Zenos) to be accessed. It’s just called ā€œmagicā€ because it’s pretty miraculous/unknown how exactly it works, yet humanity can use it quite effectively, like magic / supernatural powers in fantasy stories. ā€œAny sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.ā€
