Hi. Just wanted to drop in and say that I really enjoyed the demo and can’t wait to see what you’re going to do with this. Cheers!

Ahahaha, another Singaporean in the chat, eh? We’re a rare breed around here.

Also, christ, 3k in 2004? What’s it now, 8?

Eh, I checked Google and it’s showing around 5.2k. I don’t quite buy this figure.

I think there are two ways to look at it:

  1. Just tracking wage increases over time –> probably close to 5.2k

  2. Accounting for purchasing power –> likely closer to the 8k you mentioned.

Wage increases have definitely lagged behind inflation. Between 2004 to 2025, I’d say the cost of living has easily doubled..

Update for Week 46:

  • I finally completed Chapter 2 proper, and can start detailing our protagonist’s life in the company

    • Writing Chapter 2 took me much longer than I expected. It makes me question the timeline I’d set for the game in the initial planning.
    • I really hope ya’ll find it a captivating read. Speaking as an author, it’s easy to lose the sense for how a fresh read feels like, since I’m so familiar with the content.
  • Big news for romance lovers: you can now initiate romance with your childhood friend

  • New words are around 10k. I’ll stop counting precisely until Chapter 3 is done.

Cheers & have a great week ahead,

Hi everyone, not too much progress over the past week but posting anyways to keep up the consistency and discipline.

Week 47

  • 4,418 words of content incorporated (no new uploads on CoGDemos till I get the first rotation of the trainee program done)
  • The trickiest part now is strategizing the game flow while your protagonist is in the company
    • Some paths that tap upon my direct experiences, I can already write non-stop
      • Need to strike a balance. Too much interactivity and branching, I think it loses the authentic feel. Too much linearity, and we might as well be reading a biography.
      • Another problem is that it may make the writing imbalanced compared to other perfectly viable career development paths which I want to feature in the game
      • To tackle this, I’ve actually been consulting present and ex-colleagues with different areas of expertise to see how best to incorporate their insights too (I frame it as a general catch-up or business conversation, haven’t said nothing about this WIP yet! haha)
        • Of course, these will be 2nd hand narrations of their experiences, so I might not get the details 95% correct. I’ll take a swing with 70%.

What could’ve gone better

  • I got more than a little distracted by the financial markets, some of my speculative investments really took a hit. This is bad discipline, since I made it a point to check only once every few months to inject fresh capital. I opened it at mid-Nov, wondered what the heck happened to some of tickers, then kept panic checking in the following days
    • Only one solution to this: Deleted the app.
      • If the speculative stocks go to zero…. whatever.
      • Not worth a further minute of my peace. Not like my stressing would help much anyways.

Wish you good health and a productive week ahead

I sure as heck need that.

Cheers,
