January 2025 Writer Support Thread

Happy new Years!

I spent the last part of New Years reading, and though I enjoyed it immensely, I sort of wish I’d been writing.

For my 2025 Writing Goals, I’ll set:

-Advance Sense & Sorcery up to 20 chapters, fill in the blank bits in some chapters, and get the combat and magic system up and working.
-Write at least four more chapters for All the Way
-Do a bug fix update for Dice & Dungeon Masters and maybe a small progress update, adding in more dungeon exploration scenes and a few real world scenes, and maybe advance the Fandom sections.
-Finish my wip Sword & Sorcery anthology that I intend to self publish.
-Write at least two more Sense & Sorcery stories
-Finish writing this regency Sci-Fi story that I started two years ago and still never finished.
-Write at least two more stories for my germanic themed Sword & Sorcery anthology that I am very slowly working on.

We shall see if I get any of these done.

As for my major resolutions, let’s put it at:

-Read at least three WIPs per month, though I reserve the right to not make worthwhile comments, as I feel its better to say nothing than to force a comment that is not 100% truthful or needed.
-And as usual, try to read 50 books this year. empahsis on try here!

For January I will set a goal to do an update for Sense & Sorcery and indeed as of this morning I am back at it.

Yes, let me add my thanks too - I am so happy somebody is doing this. While I didn’t know Eiwynn well, I think she’d be happy somebody was continuing on this tradition.

I like it for community support, something to maybe, kindly and gently, keep me on task writing wise; while I welcome links to articles about the craft and particular links to IF writing articles or game creation articles, to be honest, I need to do a better job reading all these - there is only so much time and I have been very truent on keeping up. I think I most need articles and advice on the current trends for writing both IF and other forms of fiction, and sometimes information on the nitty gritty changes that are always happening. I’d certainly be interested in more information on the current legalise on using AI as a tool, safely and responsibly, as I think there’s so much to know on this and so much not known - granted we have a thread for that too that I really need to read and contribute to one of these days.

OMG - yes. Thank you @HarrisPS for posting all these! This will help me with my new years resolution of reading more of these too! I honestly don’t know how you do it - seems like there is so so much information on here.

Interesting perspective on these too. A bit intimidating, as I think the number of WIPs, at least in the short term, is only going to increase, which is a great thing. There shall be so many more genres and characters and settings to explore and live through, though it also makes the need for these support threads all the greater, to help keep energy going.
