Blake’s POV was somewhat interesting. I liked how they were clocking Seven every chance they had in their thoughts and how accurate it was. I suppose they would know how to read someone they’ve essentially met before: themselves. Ironically, Blake doesn’t appear to consider themselves to be childish, but they do have childish tendencies, criticizing everyone and assuming that they’re better at this lifestyle than everyone else. The sentence that I found most interesting in this POV was “People will do you dirty the second they have the chance. Money and fame are the two most powerful things in the world. It doesn’t bring out the worst in people—it shows you who they are.”
If we take what Blake is thinking and apply it to Seven, it truly makes me wonder if Seven had some minor and subconscious internal resentment towards the MC prior to the vote and separation. According to the game, fans preferred the MC’s voice, and it’s reasonable to assume that Seven was aware of some of those comments.
Also, what I gathered from Blake’s POV is that they don’t have any respect for Seven because Seven reminds them of themselves when they were younger, wore their emotions on their faces, and had trouble controlling their emotions. Which, if true, I’m speculating, is understandable. The most emotion that Blake shows outwardly is to provoke others or get the truth out into the open; otherwise, they seem to have control over showing how they genuinely feel and put on a performance. I can understand not respecting someone who may remind you of yourself; you’re the same age, but this person still hasn’t learned emotional control. Instead, they serve as a continual reminder of who you once were. That’s just my interpretation of what I read.
Seven/Avina POV
Seven/Avina’s POV wasn’t what I expected. I didn’t anticipate Seven to be like the MC when it came to pleasing others. Aside from that, their friendship is definitely unbalanced and not reciprocal on both sides, especially concerning the stage of their relationship. Seven’s people-pleasing encourages Avina’s behavior and gives them the impression that there’s more to it, when in reality Seven either doesn’t mean it or is doing anything to ignore how they still feel about the MC. It’s all very disingenuous and solidifies my perception of Seven using Avina as a distraction to get over the MC, but it’s not working. I can’t fully determine if they’re aware of what they’re doing or if it’s subconscious.
Avina’s POV is very strange, and they appear to be in need of therapy. Avina claims to know Seven and be their best friend, but they also downplay the roles that the MC and now Blake have in Seven’s life. This is strange since they’re obsessed with Seven, but they don’t seem to comprehend (or want to understand) why Seven is intrigued with and pulled towards the MC. They’re doing the same thing that Seven is doing. Which leads more credence to the statement made by Amy, “Avina is Seven’s Seven.” Seven’s desire for space to deal with their own emotions hurts Avina, indicating that they likely lack boundaries. Additionally, their clinginess further supports this observation. Regarding Avina’s history, they need to learn to let others wallow in their own pain sometimes and give people space.
Avina is so focused on what they want from Seven and from their relationship that they disregard what Seven may desire. They want to be a good friend (and obviously more), but not at the expense of their individual desires pertaining to Seven. Another strange moment was Avina not understanding why Seven is closed off. They were told what transpired between Seven, MC, and the band from Seven’s POV, which paints the MC and their band in a negative light. They’ve been burned once, and they’re hoping not to be burned again. It’s not complicated, but because Avina has no personal connections or emotions to what transpired between Seven and the band, I suppose it’s difficult for them to really comprehend, especially if they believe they’re a better friend or potential lover than the MC.
Seven's Secret
The drama at home is Seven’s disagreement with Lucy, which is most likely over their father. When their father is involved, they appear to argue and hate their mother. I find it fascinating that Avina feels the secret will make people like Seven more. What would encourage people to like Seven more that involves their mother and father? Did Lucy only contact our mother because she’s fighting with Seven? I don’t think Lucy is sick anymore, but the secret doesn’t appear to be as horrifying as Seven feels. However, what Seven finds awful, Avina finds excellent, and in my opinion, they’re both unreliable narrators.
Theory: Lucy sought help from Seven’s father, which led to an argument and caused Seven to resent their mother. Maybe Lucy was in debt and needed money, but the only person she could approach who had the funds was Seven’s father, which resulted in the father getting involved in their lives again. It’s possible that Avina thinks others would like Seven more out of compassion for their circumstances. They did tell Seven to appeal to Blake’s good nature; if they had one, this would be along the same lines of thought as making people like Seven more.
Rowan’s point of view wasn’t particularly engaging to me, but it intrigued my curiosity about a friend with benefits relationship with Rowan. I wouldn’t mind if we could do that with Rowan to create a comparison between what we had with Seven in terms of friendship and affection. During the parallel, it would be interesting to see if the MC can prevent themselves from falling down the rabbit hole of turning their longtime friend into a lover, either by ending it before they both become too attached or by having that relationship in a healthy manner and learning what they did wrong in the relationship with Seven. If you choose, you can strengthen the relationship and turn it into something meaningful. I would find that interesting.
