"Director... before you go, I must ask you something. Are you religious?" Voktir says, raising from the bar and leaning against his staff as he turns his head to bring his large, compound eyes to face you.

There are plenty of humans that are still religious in this day and age; some with old religions, some with new religions, and many more with religions that have made exceptional reformations. Abrahamism is common on Earth, but less common on the frontier where borders muddle together and many religions mix. It is a reformed religion combining many aspects of Christianity, Islam, and Judaism. Catholicism still exists, though it is significantly rarer than it once was in the past. There are the Children of the Black, of course; a religion that believes humanity no longer belongs on Earth or any planet. Instead, they believe in eternal unification after death, and that it is the destiny of all species to eventually become stardust to reunite with the universe. Many people are atheists or agnostic; labels that have remained largely the same since the early twenty-second century.

The error message is occurring on line 3047 (first choice in the above segment).

  *if (Bar = 1) and (MillerGreeted = 0)
#Miller's group is still hanging around. I should go say hi to the ones I don't know yet.
      *set MillerGreeted 1
      *set Bar +1
      *goto SuperMiller

Line 1907 is *set MillerGreeted 1 and has no ‘UNDER CONSTRUCTION’ mentioned in the line.

This bug is likely to take a while to figure out. I’ve saved the game file to make sure that it’s not a problem with an outdated test; same error. The same error occurs no matter what option is selected in the first part of the code.

I’m sorry to bother you guys again but I don’t even know where to start since the error message points to a line a thousand lines away, and also references an “option” where no option exists on that line.

Ask as much as you’d like. What are you using to write and test your code?

I’ve got a friend of mine playing the game that brought this error to my attention. The quicktest passed and doesn’t flag this error. I haven’t tried randtest but I also can’t find it in my files.

c1 line 1916: Invalid option; conflicts with option ‘UNDER CONSTRUCTION’ on line 1911

The error has moved now, but all I did was fix an unrelated error where goto SuperMiller was accidentally left as goto Super Miller

Is the game compiled for them to play? If so, where is it hosted?

I’m asking to see if there is a browser or software error instead of it being a coding error.

https://cogdemos.ink/play/nunya/shattered-stars-echoes-of-war/mygame

They play here ^

  *if (Bar = 1) and (SingsGreeted = 0)
    #UNDER CONSTRUCTION
      *set SingsGreeted 1
      *set Bar +1
      *goto SuperSings

This is the segment of code that the error (same error) has moved to now. I’m not sure what the issue is still.

Found the error. Let me edit this to explain:

ChoiceScript automatically flags repeated options. To stop this, you have add a marker to distinguish them.

*if (Bar = 1) and (ClarkGreeted = 0)
    #UNDER CONSTRUCTION 1
      *set ClarkGreeted 1
      *set Bar +1
      *goto SuperClark
  *if (Bar = 1) and (SingsGreeted = 0)
    #UNDER CONSTRUCTION 2
      *set SingsGreeted 1
      *set Bar +1
      *goto SuperSings
  *if (Bar = 1) and (SpieglersGreeted = 0)
    #UNDER CONSTRUCTION 3
      *set SpieglersGreeted 1
      *set Bar +1
      *goto SuperSpieglers
  *if (Bar = 1) and (OldGreeted = 0)
    #UNDER CONSTRUCTION 4
      *set OldGreeted 1
      *set Bar +1
      *goto SuperDoc

I see. How come it didn’t flag them before or in the quicktest?

It depends on the software used. When I looked at the JavaScript, I saw that the warning pops up when running the program natively, but not during QuickTest. I may have missed it?

So, your browser wouldn’t run the choice, it uses throwError() program.

Is there a way I can get a hold of this program for my own testing? I’m just using the standard things the mygame files come with at the moment.

I use the old-fashioned approach where I download Node.js and then run all my files locally using the already included file run-sever.bat.

If you download the browser application called ChoiceScriptIDE, it runs the program in the application for you automatically, and simplifies the process considerably. There is also an Android app that does the same.

Thank you. I’ll have to learn to use Node then. What’s the .js part of that program? I don’t recognize it.

.js is a file shorthand for JavaScript.

Here is the link to download.

Here’s a guide.

Feel free to ask coding questions!

Thanks! <3

You gotta get the *if/*elseif/*else chain going so you don’t mess yourself up.

You don’t. If you use ChoiceScript IDE, the ChoiceScript VS Code extension or the android application, you don’t need to worry about things like Node. They all try to make it as simple as possible to write your games.
