How to calculate word count?

Hiiiii, I’m currently writing a game, and I want to calculate an estimated word count per playthrough. How do you guys do it? Just like… playing it? I know that the app gives you a estimated with and without code, but… how can I make it more specific without having to count manually? :face_holding_back_tears:

Also, how many words would you think it’s enough to post as a WIP? I have written a little more than 15K words and I have more than 30 choices already (mostly fake choices that alter stats and so).

I would say whatever you feel like, my first wip release was at 40k words and then the second (rerelease) had 25k words. So it’s very subjective and what you feel like.

Try not to think in terms like this. Post when you feel like you have enough for people to get a feel for the game and the characters, there’s no need to force yourself to meet a certain word or choice count beyond personal satisfaction.

Yea. It’s absolutely when you feel most comfortable. I would try it from the player perspective often, find that spot where it feels like it’s a good “session” length. Something where if you were the player, you’d be happy where it stops. But as the author, always focus on what would make you happier.
