How do I know when my game is long enough?
I think the minimum wordcount your game needs to be for CoG to publish it, is 50000 words. Wordcount includes code. Other than that minimum, you can make it as long as you want.
Your game is long enough when you feel it’s complete; no more, no less.
Originally, Trial of the Demon Hunter was gonna be 170,000 words, but I wanted to have it published before I got out of high school. So, I cut it in half (so it’s now 85,000 words) and made the second half its sequel.
So I suppose it matters about the situation. Generally, though, people tend to like longer stories. If it’s part of a series, the length of each individual gamebook doesn’t matter that much.
I’m aiming for about 100k words, with roughly 10k words per chapter. I cut and past into word to keep a running total after each chapter. I’m at 30k right now and the pace feels about right.
@Samuel, I had no idea you were that young. That’s very impressive to write something of that complexity while still in school.

Thanks 11th grade english class helped me immensely
how can I know how many words mine is?
@RockStarPenguin
I suggest using notepad++
You then click view and then summary, and it gives you the word count. 500 words is approximately 1 page. So 85,000 words is 170 pages.
