I wrote an essay called Falling in Love With Rough Edges for inkle’s Game Writing Kaleidoscope and it’s coming out soon! It will be a collection of articles about game writing. Here’s the blurb:

This looks like it’ll be a great resource. Signed up—thanks for spreading the word, Harris. ![]()
I’m a little belated but it’s out, yay! I’ve got a couple of paper copies on the way.
And I was tagged in this lovely comment this morning ![]()
Is there anywhere I can see a complete list of the people who contributed essays? Or are there any others I would have heard of?
I don’t think so- even the contents page doesn’t list the authors. Presumably the editor wants it to remain a surprise until you search through.
However, from a quick flick through there is:
Rhianna Pratchett (Tomb Raider)
Julia Minamata (Crimson Diamond),
Jon Ingold (Inkle games, also the editor),
Anna Webster (Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom)
Kevin Vanord (Baldur’s Gate 3)
Kaitlin Tremblay (A Mortician’s Tale)
Chris Tihor (Nancy Drew),
Josh Scherr (The Last of us, Uncharted 4),
Paris Buttfield-Addison/ Jon Manning (Night in the Woods),
Nessa Cannon (Borderlands 4),
Darby McDevitt (Assassin’s Creed 4, The Sims 2),
Chuck Jordan (Sam and Max- Devil’s Playhouse, Curse of Monkey Island)
and me! Dominic O’Reilly (Five Day Detective, Bunny Hill Horror) ![]()
Thank you! I’d love to read Mx. Powell-Smith’s essay, but it’s a pretty big book to buy just for one short piece, but although I’m not familiar with these others by name, I know some of their work. I’m surprised I’ve never heard of Darby McDevitt - I thought I knew most of the names of the Sims 2 development team just by Townie osmosis.
I will see if I can grab a list - I’ve asked and they’re not listed publicly, but I may be able to poke through the digital version and copy-paste.
My paper copy arrived today which I’m excited about, but my day was so busy that I couldn’t open it up and take time to enjoy it. Hopefully soon!
For what it’s worth, I’m obviously interested in any ChoiceScript authors, but anyone who worked on any generation of The Sims would be a must-read for me. Fallout and The Oregon Trail, too.
