One RO was removed as a main RO, but he is still in the game. Need to work something with Vlad before deciding If I will open him to romance a male MC or not. I always planned for him to do so.
It is just that I have too many ROs, and I really want to move along with the story. I know that it is not fair to a gay male MC.
Edit. I’m really surprised that the northern ROs are winning the poll.
It looks like Vlad’s art will be first, then Farissa. Did not expect Kela to be last.
I have to say, I don’t like Kela’s controlling nature, and I might play a character who romances Gossa for the sheer chaos, but whenever I roll a female MC, she’ll definitely flip duty off and marry Odo.
Hope you are doing well, read Tumblr messages right now and gotta say that as always we all have our ups and downs, there is always light and hope waiting for us no matter what, all the hugs and support to you mate.
Closing all forms of communication with us followers was a really bold but rash move(please do not do so again my heart cannot take it) but nevertheless quite glad the time you took off was still focused on the project.
Any considerable updates you can share? Just to know what we can expect on the coming months.
On the poll above wanted to see more of the siblings Karif and Layla, the southern caliphate does interest me a fair bit and that reflects on the characters!
Hey author I got error like Odo isn’t in the romance stats I thought to tell you so that way he’s in there when we choose the choices that have hearts on them I hope this was helpful.
I was going to ask the same question. It’s always kind of shocking and disheartening when I see writers choose to make some ROs for men and some for women. It’s all fantasy, it just seems like all the ROs should be available for everyone. Then again this is a WIP, so maybe that is the writers ultimate intention and they’re just still in the process of putting it all together. Some writers design their romantic scenes so that no matter the gender selected by the MC, they can interact with the ROs all the same. And in sexual scenes, depending on the selected gender of the MC and that of the RO, they just swap around a few action verbs for continuity. However, I can definitely understand that in a story where gender politics is a central plot point, more detailed, nuanced (and therefore, time-consuming) literary prose may be used to more accurately convey the weight and/or significance of a same-sex relationship within the context of that story. Maybe all the ROs will be available to everyone, once the writer has made sure that it all makes sense contextually.
I’m the opposite, honestly. It depends on the game, but a lot of the time I like it when ROs have set sexualities because it makes them feel more real/tangible, and it also makes it seem like they exist outside of just being there for the MC to kiss.
The thing about this is the sheer coding nightmare that it would be for a game like this. In a world where same-sex relationships are viewed so different than opposite-sex relationships, it would mean coding and writing basically two different routes for every single RO which is just exhausting to think about. It saves the author a lot of trouble to genderlock the ROs in this instance, and I definitely get why he’s doing it.
As most of us have, I’ve played every single game available by COG, and nearly every single one on Hosted Games, save for maybe one or two with reviews too abysmal to excuse the download. I can count on one hand the number of stories that genderlock the RO to either a male or female MC. Like i said in my original post, if for some reason they’ve chosen to build a world where gender politics is such a key theme, i understand and respect their decision. There are a few wonderful hosted games that do this and manage to avoid the “coding nightmare” of multiple different paths by simply coding a few specific special events (one or two sentences in length) that respond to the MCs gender selection and provide context to the situation.
Personally, I feel like if the character is a RO, they are then by definition there for you to smooch lmaooo. Plenty of writers manage to create layered, multifaceted, fully formed ROs exhibiting complex autonomy and motivation without genderlocking.
At the end of the day its his story and he can write it however he pleases. And if he chooses to keep the ROs fully genderlocked, there will be people, like yourself, who don’t mind it lol. It’s still vexing in my opinion.
Not to derail this thread but it’s a matter of priorities Reginald: not everyone approaches RO’s as “characters to smooch”. Some approach it as “characters first - smooching? maybe”, and since I and probably everyone else reading your post have no idea what you consider “layered multifacated and complex” enough I can’t really discuss it further. Creating characters who have their own sexualities is valid either way.
But I can tell you that FatCat announced genderlocked RO’s months ago, so that’s unlikely to change. There might be more RO’s that fit your tastes eventually or flings but right now the ones already there need expanding on.
I have never thought of ROs as characters to smooch, lol. Honestly, Fat cat can do whatever they want to do with their story and if they think that gender locked ROs are the route to go, that is the route to go. If you want a game where you can smooch anyone, there are many other stories on this platform that may scratch your itch. I don’t think that same sex ROs even make sense for a story which is set in a world like such, but the author is still trying to broaden the scope of the player experience while still trying to remain true to their story’s narrative.
Lmaoooo ur entitled to your opinion, as i am mine, and like i said, I totally agree, it is their story. lol and don’t worry, the girls that get it, get it and the girls that dont, don’t.
thanks for the recommendation bud. But i already know that the vast majority of COG games don’t genderlock their ROs and prioritize inclusivity across their user experience cuz like i said, I’ve pretty much read them all, multiple times over. like ive said now multiple times, if that’s the kind of story the writer wants to tell, no matter how odd it is to myself and others, it’s still his choice and i respect that.
You really even added to the little prologue we had before, I love how Helena’s dialogue has become more perceptive giving us sneek peeks about her relationship with Zalkr?(strange name, Gossa’s father) how she cared about him and even tried to do something no-one should do on a relationship think they can change their partner through love or otherwise, it is also interesting to see how Valen Gossa’s mother was also an acquaintance of hers like I get they are all important nobles but they really are insanely well connected like let me tell you she could have been from a slightly less important family and out of Helena’s overview but she surprises us time and again, the reveal of the first queen’s name Nasyra the woman that gave birth to two out of three heirs on Karl’s generation and a mystery on herself, the descriptions of the old wolf (as big as a horse!) and how Helena beyond the words of her father she realised that the Emperor(no longer a King well done) was going to pass away.
Best of the prologue reworking was the starting POV of the Prince accompanying most than likely the heir that fleed the Throne race to be with his lover, the place they reached perphaps is the Korken islands? they do speak about “outcast lands” guarded by templars which is strange but on the Korken pirates lived so it could be question would be why are the Templars there?do they like the rum or what?,other possibility is that a story of a young Karl or even the still unknown dying Emperor but betting my analysis on the Crown Prince that renounced the thing.
The reworking of the tittles was the right move and one many fans have been silently calling for here at the comments, that Stefon and Zalkr got an upgrade from Dukes to Archdukes is also reasonable at least on my mind that such powerful figures were only Dukes just didn’t sit well(beware on some paragraph Stefon is referred solely as a Duke, minor problem but yeah), the big ruler on a game called “For the Empire” being a King before was just didn’t make sense I believe you’ve said Cat that we could use on our minds the tittle Emperor as it would fit nevertheless but it was not the same.
Gotta be honest didn’t expect anything new but the old demo reposted, it is a little frustrating not seeing the story advance re-reading similar parts again and again but you are clearly using it as a stepping stone for your writing so really hoping we can reconnect with the chapter 1 soon with these little details that if not much do add a certain flavour to the narrative.
Also Cat, sent you an ask on Tumblr as “salkedya” my profile there, it is a bit of a random ask but it would be cool to know the answer, check it out if you can!
