Still I am not the player I am someone else. And I want hear the story of my character. I don’t care the other except few exceptions. Even if my actions influence those other I don’t care about him I cared about who supposedly I am.
I dunno. I’ve gotten attached to the full cast before, and I’ve started caring about what happens to the other characters. And I think the shift in perspective (so that ‘You’ are still the one driving the plot) would let the reader build their character.
But this method is about seeing YOU and your actions through the eyes of someone close to you wouldn’t that be interesting?
I mean if the thrust isn’t that your character cares, it’s that this narrator character cares, I think that works fine.
Tbh I’d also be interested in that even if it was pitched about the relationship between the narrator and the MC. It can have another plot, but if it’s described as being about this specific friendship then any players would know what they were agreeing to when they start playing and people who wouldn’t like it can avoid it
I think it all depends on the storyline. Many sw grow up with rpg n very shallow fashion. With format likw this it would be interesting to play as a character you may not even one or are you disagree with but he could see another perspective. Which ia fantastic narrative tool. From example I love the infinity seas series to little bits. But I did love until play guns where my character felt like a flesh out human being. I remember when I play Saber felt like all of side characters your friends rivals and even smaller characters like your NCOs options where all vastly more interesting you just felt generic nobility son with military comission number five. It wasn’t until your background choices later on starting to go and show aspects of the character’s personality which take full game too see.
I’ve read both types of games and they can be both well written, but sometimes I feel like it’s awkward/ harder to use first person but the experiences created are more personal (typical with first person since you can hear their thoughts sorta?) and 2nd person seems less personal and more at a distance (from what I expirenced anyways) but easier to control and write(ish?)
So my questions are this, when the MC is written is first person do you, as the reader, feel a more personal connections? Or does it distance you from the character since they have their own “thoughts”
That might not totally align with “you”
And is that okay? Acceptable? And when you read a story written in 2nd person do you feel less of a personal connection?

I feel less of a connection with 1st person than 2nd, because the character has their own thoughts in 1st person, which makes me feel like the author is telling me what to feel.
I think 1st person works best on a pre-determined MC, while 2nd person for “make ur own character” style.
I vastly prefer second person but when the story’s really good (like Samurai of Hyuga) I can make exceptions.

I would probably expect the options to match the text. So if the text said “You see a fork in the road,” I would probably prefer “You go left/you go right” over “I go left/I go right”. I’m not sure without actually looking at an example whether the difference would really impress or bother me or anything though.
Then again, you could also just skip that entirely and have the options be “Go left/Go right”, if that feels proper for the story and flow and all.

Actually, the more I think about it, the more it makes sense that it would switch from you to I since the person saying “you” is addressing the reader, and the person making the “I” choices is the reader. That’s a neat dynamic, actually. I’ll have to dig back through some of the games I have and pay closer attention to how that works.

Depends on which catalogue you’re going to publish your story to.

I actually noticed stuff like this, and I wanted to use it in some way, and I did, with my WIP, The Strongest Weakling.
Basically, a big part of the game is the fact that the main character has a split personality. So, I use first person for normal MC, and second person for the split personality.
Welp, now I have to check out your WIP because that sounds cool as hell.
As for the original question…Personally, I prefer first person over second person in IF games, but that’s mainly because of how I play. For some reason the “you” sometimes drags me out of my chacters’ heads and then I feel like I should be self-inserting, which I don’t do and have no real desire to do.
personally, I feel confortable with ‘‘You glanced back…’’ vs ‘‘I glanced back…’’ . That 1st person, disconnect me. I have to force myself to pay attention to the story and ignore how the author is breathing down my neck telling me how ‘‘I’m sweating…’’ and narrating
But I’m familiar with ‘She wrotes, he wrote…’’ since I write stories and not games. So when I tried writing with the ‘‘You did…’’ it’s really weird. It’s like something flipped in my brain . And it’s a struggle, cose now you have to think and kinda make it bounce back when you write ‘‘you…’’ .
I like both. A story with the first person will generally have a more developped main character, with a real backstory, a real past. He will be more “complète”.
But, second person give more freedom to what I want to do to my hero, what I want him to feel or think about a scène…
Both have their advantage and disadvantage. Dépend on what story you want to make.
For exemple, Fallen hero or samurainof hyuga is more about développement of the mc and their feeling that anything else and how they react to their past. First person is the best choice.
In a game like the Lost heir, the first person would have been a Bad choice as it’s more focus on the story and gameplay.
More to the point. Second person make you play your character. First person make you play A character.
It’s like a pre-generated character (1st person) against a created character (2nf person) for a tabletop rpg. Both are really great to play, but I won’t play it the same.
Personally, I may have a bit préférence to the pre-generated character.
