Here is a visual for the Union order of battle which I am going to add on the stats page. Seems pretty cool.

I also want to add the latest map to your stats page so you can reference back to it. At some point I will go back and program more of the maps Iā€™ve made into the actual text as well.

Finally got around to making the map for Henry Hill. This is where the climax of the battle will happen. Iā€™m pretty pleased with how it turned out.

So big will the official game be once released

My guess is 80,000 words

Hey all,
I know this wonā€™t be everyoneā€™s cup of tea, but I wanted to inform those who are interested and have been following this story. I have published two updates on my Patreon page. There is a 6000 word update for all subscribers, and a 13,000 word update for paid subscribers. If you have any interest in either of these updates, feel free to swing on by my Patreon page, link in the original post.

I donā€™t feel comfortable sounding like Iā€™m selling something, but Iā€™m just leaving the option open for anyone who wants to support this project or any others in the future. After all, Iā€™m investing hours into this project almost every day.

Thanks to anyone and everyone who supports my work! I love writing stories and I want to continue to write them for as long as I possibly can.

Will future storyā€™s be focusing on one battle like this one or will the contain a couple more battles

The next story is still in early planning stages, but I had thought of making it more like a campaign. So you march to a location then sleep there then march the next day, not knowing when the enemy will engage. Then, for anyone not familiar with the Peninsular Campaign, there will be a series of medium sized battles, day after day after day. Itā€™s more ambitious than this idea, but I hope that it will become easier once I get over the first hurdle of actually publishing something.

In short, yes, I hope to encompass multiple battles into the next story.

So will our character gain PTSD? I mean marching for long miles not knowing when a hillbilly with a rifle will come at you in a horde would be a good cause for PTSD especially for a Senator origin MC sense he would never really be prepared for a war especially a long one like the civil war but a West Point origin MC who is prepared for an war would most likely be fine after the 4th ambush

Yes, the character will probably experience PTSD.

From what I understand, PTSD was common in Civil War soldiers of all backgrounds. At the time it had other names, such as ā€œSoldierā€™s Heart.ā€ I think for most people, being shot at and seeing friends killed is a traumatic event, and it can have major psychological consequences. I am not an expert and have no medical background, etc, I am just saying what I know from personal study.

I want these stories to be as realistic as possible, so I will try to write psychological consequences for the characters into the stories.

I am quite pleased to announce the next update release for this game, including a public demo update which is available now.

I have struggled a lot with writerā€™s block and various distractions, but my fire is back for the moment, so I am pushing hard to complete as much as possible while I feel the passion for it. If I had to guess, Iā€™m about 75% - 80% done with writing the actual text of the game. Then, I intend to do a number of fixes and improvements and move to publishing.

I hope you enjoy the update! Please feel free to hit me with any feedback you can think of.

If we went down the politician path, can in the sequel we could have friends in the government who didnā€™t join the war and can use those connections as leverage for a any of the army factions we pick, like we could use them to gain more resources for the faction weā€™re in and get in good graces with that faction making making it so we could get promoted faster or if we donā€™t choose a faction we could use our friends to save our career if we anger one or the generals; and if we choose the West Point path we could of made friends with people who would of gone off to be high ranking members of the army and have them either join the faction weā€™re in or if we choose to go alone, we can have them protect us if we anger one of the factions while also having our military friends join us and become something like ā€œadvisorsā€ that could help us win more battles and minimize our losses and maximize the enemyā€™s losses

I like the way you think. Basically, yeah, something like that. I had thought of expanding these stories to allow players to seek different goals. You could try to make a big name for yourself to improve your political standing, or try to focus on keeping your men alive, or whatever. Some of that may be beyond the scope of this first story, but I want to keep expanding things as I go. I want the playerā€™s background and choices to interact with more and more game elements as we go along, such as the political factions.

As for the character backgrounds, I want to expand that too. I added a little bit of that in a new conversation released in this update. When you talk to Captain Lum, he asks you about your priorities in life or something like that. So, you can be a diehard abolitionist or a fanatical patriot, or whatever you want. Thatā€™s just an example of what I want to add in before this story is published. I also intend to allow the player to customize their state and their regiment at the beginning.

Iā€™m glad this story still going strong and you still have motivation to write. I honestly fear this unique story gone because many wip just donā€™t have any news anymore and there many fantasy wip so something historical like this is rare

Thank you. Iā€™m glad that there is interest in my idea. Iā€™ll be honest, itā€™s hard to find the motivation sometimes. But, I am committed to completing this project.

Ive enjoyed the update one thing i noticed in the early mor ing meeting we use to be able to talk to all of them but this go round i could only talk to one person is that a bug or is that to be exspected going forward?

Thanks, good catch. This was a change I made based on criticism that I received about not limiting choices enough. Iā€™m not sure which way is better, or maybe something in between like allowing the player to speak to two of them.

Other early game changes that spring to mind are an update to the conversation with Colonel Farnham, and a rewrite of the conversation with Captain Lum while on the march.

Hmm if its really a issue i would say take the middle ground with the early meeting choices pf how many you can talk to.
