Fields of Asphodel [A Greek Mythology Story - Now Available!]

Shout out to the person who left a comment on this and made it appear on my feed, I can’t believe I didn’t know about this WIP. I’m a sucker for Hades x Persephone (no surprise there) and this WIP just hit the spot!

Seriously, I wish I was better with words so I could describe it, but: it’s like second Christmas for me. Thank you for the treat!

I’ve been following this since you posted the third chapter and oh my god I love it so much. From the representations of anxiety and sensory stimulation, to the real open-endedness to how we want to approach our opinions to the Underworld and the situation, there is so much agency crafted into this world that I don’t always experience with other COG games. Truly a standout and I can’t wait to read more.

That being said, so far no real game breaking bugs and grammar or spelling errors that I can find - and I’ve played it quite exhaustively - so I’m sending you good vibes and support as you continue to write this!

ok but this is so good, the way everyone is written and how you can play the character is so well done, like I feel in love with all the cast in minutes. I am super invested in the plot and sooooo anxious to now everything about this.

Thank you for the feedback, everyone! I’m so glad you’re enjoying the story. Hang in there; the next update will be sometime this month, and it’s quite a big chapter!

Waaah I’m so in love with the character focus aspect of the game! I also super appreciate that you can be consistent with your answers! I played my PC as a soft/non-violent/shy bookworm and when PC burned Demeter’s letter, Hermes was shocked! I’m not sure if that’s the usual response of Hermes or it was a reaction because it was out of character for my PC- either way it was a nice touch! NPCs reacting different to different characteristics I feel is hard to do, but so great! Anyway, just actually wanted to say I had fun and look forward to future content on this one! Good luck! Sending support!

Chapter Five is Playable Now!

Hello, everyone. The announcement is more or less as described. I’ve added the complete chapter five to the alpha, and you can all play it now on Dashingdon!

In this chapter, you can:

  • Do some work-related activities, if you have a job in the Underworld.
  • Hang out with Makaria, Kerberos, and Empusa, if you want to.
  • Potentially attend another family dinner
  • Go on an outing with an RO/PO
  • Have some weird dreams, whether you want to or not!

I’ve also

  • Cleaned up some typos and such in previous chapters; no major system changes with this update.

Somehow all of this shook out to uh… just about 150,000 words, so there’s that. I blame variation, personally; it definitely shouldn’t feel that long to play haha. As always, saves may be broken, but I don’t think in this case it amounts to anything catastrophic even if they are. Still, if something goes wrong, a fresh save may be the solution.

I apologize for what is likely to be a lot of typos; I did try to edit but it’s a lot of words, and I’m just bound to miss some, unfortunately.

Nonetheless, I hope you enjoy the update. As usual, it can be found here.

Aaaaaah, this update was just splendid ( not that the others weren’t, i just couldn’t build up the courage to comment back then ). I want you to know how much this WIP radiates calm and relaxing vibes. I think you just managed to create a safe haven for your readers, just seeing the extent of care you have gone through to make sure everyone feel at ease while reading is remarquable. The characters are so endearing and mature, that when I play my default Persephone, I wince every time I see how rude some answers can be, but even so, I know I will play through them with another PC, just to see the variations. Now, onto the update :

Makaria and Kerberos

I love kids and pets, so getting the combo is just the cherry on the cake, I liked how even if Makaria acted so confident in the first encounter and at the dinner, showed some kind of shyness spending time with Persephone in their element.

The outings

As for the outings, I was delighted to see the mechanics of NPCs taking initiative at play. At first I didn’t think it was the actual outing, since I thought we would get to choose who we want to spend the holiday with, so of course when Pyri asked, I couldn’t refuse. It was not until i reached the dream that I realized : it was the magic of toggling on the NPC taking initiative at the beginning of the demo. But why Pyri, thought ? I guess I may have spent most of the time with them without noticing.
The only thing that felt missing is when we get the choice to either accept or refuse the invitation of the PO taking initiative, there were only two answers stating decline, but one of them seemed dismissing, and the other outright curt, I thought maybe a more polite refusal would be welcome.

I am glad i jumped on the NPC taking initiative wagon, because i don’t think i would have played through Pyri’s if i didn’t, it was kind of a blind date.

But still, i went back and played Hades’ day off, i chose to braid some flowers crown, but decided against it after seeing that Persephone was the only doing something when we were supposed to spend time together, and felt even more bad that he can’t wear the crown, but the tidbit of information we get there is worth it.

I went back (again) and this time chose to look at the clouds, which was well an activity both could take part in, and i can tell you that Hades saying he would love to stay in contact with Persephone even if they decided to go back to Olympus outshines even him wearing the flowers crown.

The jobs

While i chose to help with the agriculture ( yeah, i know that’s not the most creative playthrough ), i appreciate having also the post of minister. I think i am hoping too much that the coming of Persephone would shake things a bit, even thought they couldn’t convince Demeter through a letter, they did stand up against a judge. I can’t wait to see how they will react having someone from Olympus take part in their advisory meetings.

Hermes

Yes, Hermes gets one for him only. Well,…just Hermes. I gotta say he is the only one getting the playful side of Persephone to show. I am happy i chose him as one of their oldest and only friends, because i love the banter.

Edit: Excuse the abrupt end of the post, i am writing at 1am, and i couldn’t come up with anything to conclude with ( english decides to leave me when i need it the most ), but i really wanted to leave a message, as i rarely do, seeing that i had the opportunity, since as goes the saying ( if i remember correctly ) the floor was all mine.

I’m glad to have found someone with really soft heart towards basically everyone so far too haha. I’ve a great difficulty being actually mad at anyone too, despite Persephone’s current circumstances. The only person I’m actually miffed with is Zeus (but, I’m trying not to die by a lighting strike so). Everyone has been really kind and accommodating in the underworld, it feels as if they were really pushed into this situation, so I’m really glad that I can roleplay an understanding and helpful persona towards them.

I wish I could mingle with the shades/spirits, if I were able to request anything. I imagine they would feel a lot of pressure talking with other Gods, but I personally imagine my Persephone being a really approachable, down to earth sort. You know, that one friend with a really good ear for listening and who knows to keep a secret.

Also, yes, please more interactions with Makaria and Kerberos. They are adorable!

When meeting zeus for the first time choosing this choice

#If I respond coldly enough, Demeter might leave it at that.

Does not show what we actually said. It skiped it

Hi, not sure if anyone getting this error message when trying to save?

Thanks for the notes, all.

@TechNote I can’t be sure but that seems like it might be a save system or cache issue, neither of which I can do much of anything about, unfortunately.

Hi! I’m a long time lurker but it’s time to make a review. I’m in love with your Hells version, everybody is so nice and respectful .
I like the fact that you can do a lot of different activities I didn’t think I would like the idea of gardening so mutch!
Sorry for my bad english but I wish you the best for the future.

In the garden are we able to plant stuff of the particularly deadly kind. Flowers such as hemlock, wolf’s bane or nightshade, etc.

It’s not specified exactly what flowers or plants there are, only general categories. I might need to narrow it more later, but for now it’s completely a matter of headcanon what specifically is there.

Reading this is, as they say where I’m from, ‘good for what ails ya.’ I mean damn I smile so much throughout the story. It really is a privilege to experience your world.

I adore this story so much! You are an incredibly gifted writer with a talent for exploring varied MC’s with such ease, that it should be illegal. I’m greatly appreciative to you for continuing to share FoA without a price.

I haven’t been able to bring myself to romance anybody other than Hades, even if I like Hermes. He’s just too important, and by far my most favoured RO to date. I highly encourage those who like his branch to play as a kindly character with a preference for magic as it opens a sweet scene in the meadow where you can ‘watch the clouds’ together, and allow him to sit on the grass while balancing his Death Magic. There’s a moment of vulnerability is so sweet and sincere, that I have cavities!

In the end I did good waiting for more updates, so that I could read more content in single route. And as always good job with your writing style. But I have a question. We will ever meet a Titan?

@AstinFamily We might be able to meet Zeus’s, Posiden’s and Hades’ father. Hes supposed to be in Tarterus, which is part of the Underworld. At least I’m hoping we do.

I’m currently on the Hades romance… path? (I don’t think it’s quite a route yet?), and it feels like a slow-burn romance type of thing. I’m wondering if that’s specific to Hades (it would fit his personality) or if the game in general is slow-burn romance?
