Fallen Hero: Retribution release thread! (Book Two) (Spoilers Inside!)

Anathema in our head is fascinating, particularly if the car crash is the second time you see them. They start fighting back against some hidden, shadowy force in your head, referred to as “He”, and I wager, likely tied to the gates. It could be a figment of Sidestep’s psyche telling Sidestep to close the gate; it could also be something different. It’s interesting to think about!

H o w?._. Playing nice Sidestep is so boring. I tried and couldn’t bring myself to, at some point my MC always killed someone xd

Tho, it’s not like I don’t go to coffee dates with Herald. I love the guy. I like most of the other characters.
But at the same time I enjoy reading about how MC hurt them physically and mentally..

I suppose it is the same kind of “boring”/unfun as what I find murderous Sidestep being? I have tried, but it just doesnt feel right!

I haven’t played Retribution yet, but I have a very important question: is there an opportunity to get a new cape in book two if Lady Argent stole it in book one? Please someone tell me, I can’t finish book one until I know for sure, I want to have a cape :sob: I would rather not be her nemesis than live without my precious cape!

We’re a villain, so villain we shall. It’s incredibly hard for me to not play as a pragmatic and unfeeling husk on his way to successful, so I create Mercenary. Curious about Daring / Arrogance, so I create Attila, my warlord with an agenda who shall stomp their enemies with vengeance and impunity. People praise Ortega romance, huh, I should try it, so I make Anathema, my suicidal lady who wants to see the world burn.

It’s more fun for me than being nice. I feel that by being nice you miss out on so many great things! Like snapping off Blaze’s head and making him burn civilians alive!

No opportunity for a new cape, but you CAN reclaim the one she stole!

That’s awesome, thank you so much for the quick reply!

I mean is not like he is a saint now and will carefully choose his words to not hurt anyone or pull any punches. He still the same sarcastic bastard, but without the killing part lol it felt so unnecessary and unpractical when I was replaying rebirth. I was just going to rob the place, anyway.

And although I always pick the ‘I will use them’ option it’s mostly for show than anything else. He still has a reputation to uphold, you know? Also, see Step reassuring himself that everything he’s doing is just for the :sparkles: manipulation sake :sparkles: is pretty funny to me

What I find interesting with my playthroughs is that, without donning my villain persona Roman, my Sidestep is nice to everyone. He doesnt push the Rangers away, he trains Herald to be the best, he pursues a romantic relationship with Ortega. With Roman in the helm, he killed The leader of the Guardians and Deveraux efficiently and without mercy. And in the first book crippled Herald.

Though I think his mindset is he only kills people who he thinks deserve it. I think once the mystery of his origins come out in the next book, he might do a 180 to the good guys though the Rangers might not be welcoming to him anymore.

Geez. My Sidestep is a goody goody. Deveraux got away because she dragged Blaze out of the room so people wouldn’t get hurt, then decided to try to convince Blaze he was playing for the wrong team. I think, at this point, she figures if she can make all the pawns of the cabal see that their bosses are evil, she can lead a mutiny to bring the whole system down.

She figures the “heroes” aren’t bad, they’re just a bunch of dipshits who can’t see the bigger picture and that the only people they’re protecting are the evil politicians. No need to kill any of them when you can turn them or destroy their reputations, instead. Besides–it’ll be easier to flip the system if she’s got an army (and not a mob, since she’s out for justice).

In his civilian persona, my MC is very mild-mannered and polite (albeit efficient and tough on Herald when in training)…until his status as a Re-Gene is at risk of being revealed. He was prepared to be rejected by Herald (and prepared to do what he must to keep his secret if Herald rejected him). Herald’s acceptance of him moved him to tears. In the ending where he didn’t reveal himself as Mastermind, he’s furious at Ortega after learning that the Rangers know his secret (with the exception of Danny, who he told) without his consent, and at her reaction to said secret. It’s the only time he really becomes furious (not just angry) in the story.

In his villain persona, he’s definitely a reasonable and non-murderous guy (Mia Ochoa thinks he’s an undercover hero) and has set out to marshal an army against the Special Directive and the system that supports it through his hero hunts (sorry, “hero training sessions”).

My main Step is mostly the same as EvilChani except he is very willing to kill people he just haven’t found any one worth it yet to. He would have kill Blaze he he had more skeletons in the closet then just being somewhat of a arrogant jerk who still care about saving people so instead he tried to turn him. He his defiantly going to kill people at the Farm especially the ones who cause the most “damage” to both himself and other re-genes. As for the Rangers he is feeling very confident he can turn at least three of the Rangers especially in the run where Ortega broke him out so he doesn’t have to do plan A of ruining the Rangers reputation. As for where he is going with the plan in the end (If I have the option) is gathering enough leverage (Turned heroes ,connections in the media and with politicians, dirty secrets, an angry civilian population, maybe even a few villains if he finds any that he can trust) that he can focus what’s left of the U.S government in the east to negotiate. If they refuse then a Revolution it will be.

My main MC is largely nice, just a bit of a dick. Doesn’t kill anyone (might kill a few people who deserve it down the line though), mostly just steals stuff, only wants a better life and feels bad about being a villain, wears worn clothes, lives in the sewer. Didn’t fight Blaze as a villain or fight at the auction, just wants freedom and seemingly isn’t planning to change the system, or at least hasn’t started to make real moves to do so as a thief. Is in love with Ortega and confessed to her expecting rejection, not sure what to do now that didn’t happen, was planning to cut all ties. Befriended the Rangers too. The cruellest he got was abandoning the puppet so readily to save his skin.

Meanwhile my second MC is my most evil one I’ve done by far, with mass murder, manipulation, revelry in chaos and no remorse, just arrogance. It’s a fun path to play but depressing at times, well worth being bad. I suppose he likes Mortum but even then that MC would absolutely kill her if she stood in the way of his brand of justice. Literally is Sidestep again, which makes things worse, he’s masking his revenge plot with lies about how it’s really for justice, since the anarchist path definitely does not require the brutal deaths of Blaze and many others. He’s well up for violent revolution and is in no mood for negotiation.

It seems that you are playing as an anarchist, and I think its natural to be more kind and merciful in that route since at the end of the day your MCs intentions are still good.

Mine isnt.

I chose my Sidestep to become a mob boss and hopefully replace Hollow Ground. He’s had enough of being stepped down and treated like trash and now wants to be the top dog running things around. He wants people respecting or fearing him.

His only weakness is the Rangers since, for all their faults they were nice to him when he was still a naive hero, and when confrontation is unavoidable, its either he’s too soft for it, he actually does what was needed or Herald beats his ass since Cyrus/Roman made the mistake of training him instead of gaslighting and manipulation lol.

Also here is a song that really fits Step or at the very least my Step

Was I the only one who ended up playing murderous Sidesteps? It seems to be a rarity.
