Fallen Hero: Retribution release thread! (Book Two) (Spoilers Inside!)

So, a theory: in my run when romancing Chen, when Sidestep had coffee with him, they discussed the photo that made Chen stopped looking. Chose the “stare in horror” option and I think Sidestep’s telepathy kind of bleed through, causing a customer in the neighbouring table stabbed their own hand with a fork. Like how Heartbreak made everyone in the vicinity insane?

We know that Sidestep can control crowd’s emotions—there are many scenes where we can rally or terror a crowd of people, but they’re all deliberate. Is it possible that with how Sidestep’s ‘getting stronger then ever’, the telepathy also works subconsciously? That they’re heading the same way as was Heartbreak?

There is one scene where after obtaining Mortum’s gun, choose to bring it as Sidestep, and Mortum will eat a ‘number’ pill. Sidestep will be suspicious of how Mortum got their hand on it.

The pill is suposed to be the scientists’ way of shielding their minds from telepaths, like explained in ReGene reveal scene. That and the “all in the name of science” epilogue make me think that Mortum was a part of the scientist team, if not part of the ReGene project.

I don’t know how I got it then, but in my playthrough, Ortega breaks me out of the Ranger building hospital cell in the middle of the night. I didn’t kill, went out of my way to save civilians, met Steel’s dog, didn’t shake HG’s hand, kept my distance from everyone as my puppet (it’s not my body, after all) mentored but didn’t romance Herald, told the truth to Ortega and Steel (and found out Steel already knew about me being a ReGene) and Argent (Ortega seemed pretty pissed about what she did to my face) eh…what else. Um, had about a 60% relationship with Mia? I kept covert and practical/efficient, kept my suit in good repair, didn’t recruit Rosie, played as tactician rather than strongman…err…went after the government?

Honestly, I don’t know how I triggered what sounds like a better version of Ortega than so many of the rest of you got. Went to therapy and slept with him, maybe?

About affecting others people mood , there is dream/memory where Mc is in lab and cannot move. The director demands scientist to stop laughing at her , and they responds something like this ’ Sir , i can’t , It’s not me … ’

No, Mortum was never a part of the special directive or the farm.

In one of the epilogues, the director of the farm, Regina, tells an operative to get her info on who Dr Mortum is.

Flirt with her as the villain, give her a good fight on the bridge and reveal yourself at the auction.

Do I need to tell Ortega about Chen’s crush to enter Ortega/Step/Steel poly?

I just scrolled up the forum and found out about the scars and gate. I never get the scene you mentioned, so maybe my Step’s gate is low.

Hmm i think you can get this dream when you choose to sleep after the car crash
There are so many diffrent choices leading to different outcomes , its so difficult to track every clue ( and i adore that )

Regarding Mortum, they claim they never worked for the Speical Directive, but that they used to be a private contractor for the military and knew scientists who did. They also mention they had a different name and different face at the time.

The Farm says “I think it’s time we considered looking into a scientist called Dr. Mortum. I’ve heard some disturbing rumors, and I want a full background check.” It’s still possible they’d know Mortum under a different name, though. I’m more interested in what the Farm considers “disturbing rumors”.

Mortum says they can’t get a dampener in their lab, because it “would wreak havoc with their other project, and they are not prepared to put that on hold.” So, they’re doing some sort of work on telepaths/telepathy right now.

They also have thoughts like “Damn telepaths.” and how they “know far too well what powerful telepaths are capable of”, which speaks of personal negative experience.

There’s a conversation with Mortum where you ask if they know why telepaths are disappearing in Los Diablos. They avoid the question, saying “it’s better not to ask” and looking troubled. In a different conversation, after Mortum finds out who the villain is, Mortum admits that someone is buying telepaths on a secret message board they use. They look guilty. You ask if they’ve ever sold one, and they say no, but their voice cracks.

You do not ask if they’re the one buying.

…Also, their shirt is orange. ORANGE! Discussed at the art gallery, where it’s called “toxic” and “a warning color”. Used for regene tattoos, and the warning lights on your suit, and various other foreboding images. The numbers pills themselves are blue-grey marked with orange, just like the regenes.

They said they got in a later post

Yes that’s another way to get it going

So for everybody who played through the Argent romance path. What did you guys think about the Argent reveal? I was actually thinking that she might be an alien or mutant of some kind. That she was actually born with her powers. I was still pretty surprised to figure out that her powers and appearance come from the nanovores Also I think somebody on the forums actually had a theory for that. When everybody was discussing Argents possible origins. So kudos to them lol either way this definitely proves that Argent is not only arguably the most powerful ranger but also the MC’s most powerful foe or ally. Argent really wasn’t lying when she said that she was holding back and just playing with the MC.

Will there be consequences if I stole from the museum on Book 1?

So as I was rereading timeline for fun, I realized something. Soviet Onion was the first one to create powered individuals. It also never states that Onion broke apart. US has a very shaky hold on the west and one crisis and they might lose it entirely. The setting shows great power of the companies and non governmental organizations, as well as has highly advanced cybernetics. Clearly, it is a cyberpunk setting.

Headcanon updated
Fallen Hero is a prequel to Va11ha11a and the first powered individual is clearly Gil.

Finally finished my first playthrough. Even though it didn’t feel exactly right to go meet HG as Sidestep, I preferred the possibility to confess to Ortega in the car infinitely over simply getting away with everything. The following Herald hospital confrontation was also supremely delicious (albeit bittersweet) and I cannot wait to see if there’s maybe still a chance for these two in the future… I mean, my MC already confessed, bawled like a baby, and told everyone how incredibly sorry he was (not that it changes what he did, obviously). And when Daniel finally came to break him out… All. The. Feels. :sob::sob::sob:

Also, major kudos on the trans-MC front. I rarely enjoyed playing as a trans-MC as much as in this game. Will definitely have to try out the allo/demi/ace/aro-aro settings in the future. I’m also really glad about the many poly options considering that all the ROs are interesting and unique in their own way.

All the characters in Va11ha11a are actually just future versions of all the characters in Fallen Hero.

well, Gil is implied to be a former KGB agent and Boss is also probably a century old with all her exploits. So it certainly makes sense. Now clearly the question is who are they here?
