Care might not be the appropriate word. They definitely want them alive and out of Rangers’ hands though.

Can I check, was the save system added with the Steam update? I have the client side save system in case no but it would be nice to officially back up my playthroughs on CoG’s save system

All the more to gain Sidestep’s trust, isn’t it?
Considering they can give Sidestep six different scars, they are just the master manipulator it seems. They can convince Sidestep regardless of motivations.
The people around who have met them (Mortum, Rosie/Boris, Ortega, etc) also immediately believe (or feel relaxed) they are the puppet or Sidestep depending on the body. They act according to the person they meet. They act strange when no one’s around (or in front of the mirror).
The easier answer would be the nine gates Heartbreak breached in book one. Sidestep is just following the same path.
My own opinion is that Sidestep is very paranoid. They just hide it so well. Like the panic can make Sidestep erratic behaviors while also increasingly distrustful and lash out at Ortega and Steel(Heartbreak incident survivors).
Keeping allies away just makes Sidestep an easier prey for Heartbreak.
I am expressing these opinions because I love the idea of the body snatcher is Heartbreak. Actually, I am not sure this one is Heartbreak.

Unless HB is just following our path. A previous subject is mentioned. I think they even share Sidesteps gender? Plus it’s proven Sidestep can close gates under extreme circumstances

HB shares the gender of the puppet, not the gender of the MC. You are thinking of HG, who shares the gender of the MC. Which certainly makes things markedly stranger. I still don’t understand if the implication is that the MC is related to them or not. I feel like everyone might be onto something with those ‘Step is actually human’ theories.

No. In the first book during the HB flashbacks a previous subject is mentioned. That’s who im talking about

I do like them as a theory even if it doesnt end up being true.
Especially considering the directive is especially fond of trying to collect telepaths.
And though unlikely, in the event that sidestep really is a clone, the idea of them being the “soul/mind” of hg’s sibling is an idea I think would be interesting, if a bit convoluted.

I can’t seem to get past eight gates. What does it mention closing the gates exactly does?
It would be great if Sidestep can close all the gates too.
If you open to many gates Sidestep will automatically close some. There is a screen shot somewhere in the previous few thousand posts

Sidestep doesn’t exactly close them. If you open 7, the 7 stay open. An 8th gate is ABOUT to open, but Sidestep forces it to stay shut. It’s not clear if they can close gates already open, or the 8th just hadn’t reached the point of no return yet.

When will Sidestep get full hours of sleep if this continues? Can Mortum help Sidestep with the dreams?
At least, it says Sidestep sleeps better in a better apartment.
Thanks for the answer. It seems Sidestep is unable to close the gates on their own. The only one who closed one gate is Hollow Ground so far.
If you punch the mirror with the black thing it doesn’t close one too? I remember someone mentioning this but I haven’t tested it yet

If it’s true that HB is piloting our other body than could that maybe mean fewer nightmares? Sidestep has plenty of trauma to draw from, but I always assumed the worst came from them. If they aren’t hitchhiking our mind anymore could we be looking at a quieter (but probably still troubled) mind in the next book?

Just finished playing the FH games for the first time, WOW. What an absolutely killer series, and reading through the thread, it looks like there is so so much more to see on subsequent playthroughs!!
One question, though – do we know what the other games will be called? My original ‘canon’ Step named his villain Revelation, but given the titles so far, I feel like that could end up being a little too on the nose
