Basically the first choice “Struggle” in chapter 1 leads you on the new major branch that eventually leads to 5 new epilogues. A brand new chapter 2 and two new chapter 3s.
This one is probably a little darker in parts than the Soldier or Shadow paths, but it probably fills in some of the questions that might have arisen in those paths as well since you’re getting more information being the Emperor’s right hand man and all.
I just wish there was a fork to get into the emperor’s right hand man path from the shadow path.
Just imagine what a shadow assassin with gish training could accomplish, and imagine how much gloating the voice in one’s head would do about shadows becoming the state religion of the empire.
Lol. I’m sort of surprised by the number of requests/desires to “romance” her considering before the big update a bunch of people expressed a wish to get a chance to kill her.
The “relationship” between Semra and the Eternal is incredibly unhealthy for several reasons and really there is just no way those two could ever be together without one of them ultimately killing the other.
The Eternal generally speaking isn’t submissive or weak willed enough to fall for her. Other than perhaps the physical factor and the fact she keeps helping him, his feelings are usually pretty negative towards her. As for Semra, no matter how much she “loves” him (or has convinced herself she does) she’ll discard him if it suits her purpose. Just in her nature.
Still there is “something” between them but it’s just not something that would result in anything long term. (So no epilogue where you end up with her and live happily ever after)
Consider Semra an on and off “doomed romance.” Ha ha.
Damn…guess my love for her will go unfulfilled. I enjoyed “I hate you, let’s bone” dynamic enough that I hoped it would be a steady thing. Meh…I ended up with the Eternal Harbinger epilogue anyway.
I’ve got to say I’m not entirely all the way through the new path yet but the way that I’m hearing of Cyrus, the “Last Shadow” leading a desperate but doomed rebellion against the Empire and the “Butcher of Rask”…
It’s absolutely chilling to think just one seemingly insignificant action like “Whether to accept your fate with dignity, show weakness and beg for mercy or (my favourite so far and the one I’ve been waiting for for some time now) say “Screw that” and go out fighting despite being 5 years old”, can dramatically change the course of the Eternal’s life.
Also, I’ve got admit I’d totally return Semra’s twisted “affections” if it was me IRL. I’ve got an unhealthy thing for emotionally, psychologically, physically, verbally abusive women for some sick, sick reason in my twisted excuse for a mind. I’d probably end up marrying her.
So I thought the original endings were good
Then the shadow endings came along and I thought they were pretty epic
But these new endings, which I have only read two so far, have simply elevated you into my favorite author of all time, which is impressive because I read a lot. I can’t even describe how good they are, it’s impossible they are just too fantastic. Your writing is amazing, and I while think endings are the hardest, you make them… Well just absolutely perfect.
I’ve never checked out EndMaster’s stories before, because I thought they wouldn’t have enough gaming elements (more story than game). However, I reluctantly decided to try out “Eternal” due to everybody raving about it.
Wow.
This thing is something else. The amount of work and effort that went into “Eternal,” and the amount of branching storylines “Eternal” has is just… it’s stunning. This story has now become my most favorite out of any choice stories. The writing is fantastic, and the characters all feel very distinct and real. “Eternal” is better than the past few fantasy novels I’ve read, and is definitely worth money.
I started reading it at 5 p.m. yesterday, and eventually stopped at 1 a.m. Then, I woke up this morning and read for another five hours. And here’s the thing: I still don’t know anything about “Semra” or “Allison” or whatever. Never seen them. I did the shadow route where I worked with Talia. And the amount of variations in the storyline I saw by doing that was astounding.
Anyways, thank you very much for your work. I’ve never seen anything like “Eternal” before, and it’s really impressive.
Yeah there are some good games over there, I also like Necromancer and the homo perfectus series, although that latter one I found a tad frustrating with the “guess the right power to use” feature.
Thanks, it certainly was one of those stories I was bound and determined to complete.
Went through quite a few ideas and storyline changes. Funny to scan through the old notes of previous outlines, revisions, dropped and cut ideas to make way for other ones that fit better for the final story.
Now all that’s needed is a multiversal threat so that the mercenary, the shadow assassin, and the god emperor who are all the same person have to team up. lol
I just finished the pro-Emperor route (one I do recall desiring over at the CYS forums when I did post!)
Gotta say… It was good. I admit I thought it was a bit ‘tired’ in the middle of the plot, like it was dragging itself over the line. But it exploded towards the end, for me anyway. My perception might be biased though, cos the last time I played was the Shadow path and that was an exceptional path in its own right, possibly the best path out of the lot…
But I digress, again congratulation, fantastic effort, brilliant story.
“Alright, listen up because I’m only going to say this once. This man was a fucking traitor. He was planning to betray me at some point during tomorrow’s battle. Don’t ask me how I know, the important thing is I know because I’m the fucking Emperor and I know ALL.”
