When it comes to a CoG would you prefer your chosen gender to play some role in the story/how you play? For example, a female MC might be able to seduce someone to get something, whereas a male wouldn’t be able to?
I’m for both gender having the same options . I think mens can be charismatic just as much as womens can be . I also think womens can be just as strong as mens can be .
No, the MC’s gender shouldn’t have an impact on their skills and abilities, although it could influence other people’s reactions. However, the situation above would make sense if the person the MC was trying to seduce was only interested in women.
To clarify, not saying it should influence their abilities. Gonna use James Bond and Mission Impossible as an example here. James is quite willing to use his charms to seduce women, and occasionally flirt with men in order to gain an advantage, however this tactic would not work on a straight man or a lesbian woman. In Mission Impossible 4(I think), one of the characters is a woman agent who, in order to gain privacy with a man they needed something off, seduced him. While the male characters could’ve probably gotten the man in private, they wouldn’t have been able to do it through seduction
Or maybe give players the option, but, ya know, fail them for incompatibility.
That seems fine to me, although it would be a good idea to have another character only be seducible by a male MC, to balance things out.
I have mixed feelings about the idea, but I can say that I liked how gender honestly had an impact on scenes you had in Choice of the Vampire with conversations and events you could only have as either a male or female, encourages replayability. So it probably depends on the context.
I remember in one of the dlcs of DA2,Hawke can seduce a guy with whom Tallis failed miserably. So it came more naturally when Hawke is a man.
But as for COG games,I might prefer the target being default bi because the lacking of save/load system.Especially when there’s a ability check,it seems annoying if I rise my chrisma skyhigh but can’t use it when needed
All said quite well already by other people, but here is my 10 cents.
Differently how? What makes one gender different from other? I think only pronouns and everything else is usually bunch of stereotypical and sexist crap.
But if you just want NPC be attracted to certain genders then okay. I think it is not quite fell under “treat differently”.

I don’t think seduction should be something gender-exclusive, though. Both men and women should be able to seduce their own way.
What I’m thinking is something like
Perverted Man vs. Alluring-Flirty Woman
Basically this. Gender must not be a limiting factor for the MC (I’m already a bit miffed that in fantasy games/RPGs, races often pigeonhole you into archetypes), but I think it should definitely influence on how the world around you perceives you.
Why not Perverted Woman vs. Alluring-Flirty Man?
Because the opposite rarely shows up on the mass media?
I think I can picture women like looking at skin, but when it comes to alluring-flirty man, the only thing that comes up to the mind is a lithe man wearing a conspicuous tight suit and trouser, complete with a top hat and smiling mask.
His iconic pose is a left hand on the chin, right hand on hip, and his head tilting upwards a bit.
I believe there’s a trope to this archetype?
You see can find a fair amount of pervy women in media, suave men seem to be a dying archetype though, outside of the espionage genre
Totally, I am sick tired of if a man uses seductive behavior has to be a pervert. Like if seduction is a “Female” thingy. That’s a big machist stereotype. Gender shouldn’t be a difference except in few cases where is a LOGICAL part of storyline.
Force women to be seductive is a fancy way to say they only could win using sex because they aren’t as good as man in strength or whatever.
In seductive the important should be one charisma and the target orientation. If men is gay or aro i could be all seductive i want i will lost. But seduction is not only sexual. It could use to be friends with our charisma
There’re actually a fair amount of such men (as I described) in anime, although their story rarely explored well.
See, for me that’d be a strong reason to go against the stereotype, instead of playing into it.
Men’s sexuality being portrayed as predatory and perverted, and female sexuality as sly, underhanded and mainly used to trick men, is not really a good thing, and helps spread an unhealthy and sexist culture.
I’d like to see more diversity.
Also, in my personal experience (from both real life and fandoms) women actually get more perverted than men…
Yeah I don’t mean forcing someone into a specific path based on their gender, but having their gender open up different avenues that aren’t accessible to the other gender. For example, you might need to get a secret, as a woman you could seduce a man into giving up the secret, which lets you get it easily, but as a man you might be able to corner the dude in a sauna or bathroom or something. Then have some other options to also get the secret that have nothing to do with your gender. So not locking off anything story-wise really, just giving you a different way of doing things
My problem is not about portraying the women side, rather the men.
If one talked about trickster, seductive man, my image always go to the archetype I mentioned.
It’s really hard to write without material to base on, see. Even if it’s for diversity, against stereotype.
That’s not true in everyone culture. I am Spanish and the Don Juan is a typical figu since medieval times in fact in our culture seduction is as used by men as women. So for me it has no sense that idea that men cannot seduce.
Edit @Ozymandias You are suppossing men has to be heterosexual and a hormonal driven that will jump over everything with boobs and that is an stereotype big as a mountain. A man could totally use charisma to be friends and then kill him. We arein 2018
