Yes, it certainly does sweeten the deal, as I’m a fan of dating sims, otome games, and rpgs with dating mechanics.
But if the concept is engaging enough and the game of good quality, I’ll play anything. A war genre game with a survival bent is interesting all by itself…and a setting like that doesn’t exactly lend itself to romance. (Romances and relationships do absolutely happen during war, but adding it in here sounds like a sharp swerve from the survival premise, and thus immersion-breaking.)
That said, I do like the idea of having a sweetheart (and/or friends and family) back home. That would be a neat option to have. Not a necessary option, but it’d add to the roleplaying experience. It’d just give a little extra bit of customization.
