Game name? You kinda had me at Mason… though I’m not sure I can take another awesome character being a moron and all the good stuff backtracked just for the sake of dragging things out longer!
Heh, I actually already have it in my Steam library. I tend to pick up stuff when it’s on sale because it looks interesting, then forget about it. I’ll still play the demo first, just in case it’s not my thing. Then dig through the code and read the steamy scenes, since they sound so awesome.
Oh of course, yeah I completely understand that this isn’t going to be as common, and for totally valid reasons lol. As you said this does take away from player agency, which I also value But once in a while it could be fun for people who might enjoy these types of stories
You are the author, but in my opinion, you’re wrong I love Midnight Saga, not only for the woohoo scenes, but I love the game in general. I think it’s creative: I like very much the exploration parts and puzzles - some of them I still don’t figured out - and I love your characters. Now and then I replay it! It’s one of the few games that I never take off on my favorites in the HG app.
Mack isn’t like that, the thing he has most in common with Mason is the grumpyness. He isn’t a moron or rude like Mason in the first book. He is just more closed off (also some of your friends mistake him for a drug dealer because Mack doesn’t own any kind of clothes besides his hoodies - well he kind of stays shirtless for a lot of time, so the hoodies aren’t so bad) It’s not that Mack takes a lot of time to discover what he wants (the MC), the thing is that in the first book we don’t have much time to interact with him because of all that’s happening. Then, we have the Mack from the demo of book 2, that is
And that’s why I appreciate Kotori Habane from If My Heart Had Wings. At first, she’s the typical abrasive tsundere, but as MC Aoi Minase learns from hanging out with her more, there’s more to her than meets the eye.
Shirtless? Now I have an image in my head. A nice image…
Well, that decides it. I’m playing the game. If I ever have uninterrupted time again. I worked 18 hours yesterday and today isn’t looking much better. Thankfully I sneak breaks in while I’m waiting on things to load or I’d be dead…
I honestly don’t understand why anyone would want an RO that comes anywhere close to “murdery.” I don’t find it fun or cute, just kinda disturbing. Like, Jun from “Samurai of Hyuga” is an actual RO? He’s actively trying to kill us the whole time!
I agree about Jun… no thanks. The “Jun/ko kidnaps the MC” book was enough to turn me off of the series permanently.
But if a murdery RO is done like Mr. & Mrs. Smith or a “well, I didn’t know you were the one I was trying to kill!”, or even a well-done enemies to lovers that doesn’t go over the line, then it can be fun. It’s just not usually well done. And pyscho asshole murderer/rapist is not fun.
Like I understand if the person was actually a good person with a fondness of killing things as a solution at times but trys to restrant thenselves to only certain targets or if its part of their job like a soldier or mercnary.
But if its some like Jun/ko fron Hyuga. Then yeah I can’t understand that.
Easy answer people are horny for yanderes. There is a reason that it’s a somewhat well know tropic though I’m no longer a edgy teen and have since lost interest in them. Seriously though people loving such things in fantasy stories isn’t a bad thing
As someone who is super into murdery ROs, I could try to give my perspective on why I enjoy them? At least with the type of murdery RO that people tend to associate with Jun and similar characters (such as FFXIV Zenos).
One of the major things is that its fiction is that its sort of a safe way to explore scenarios that you probably don’t want to experience irl, but that the idea of them is in some way alluring. Not always in the conventional romantic or sexual sense, but it could also be in the way that you can’t look away from a car crash or someone might be fascinated by psychological horror.
Part of the thrill of a character like that is the danger. Their behavior is raw and uncensored. They act how they want to without any filter so there’s little to no doubt as to their intentions. Its appealing because its such a break from ordinary life where everyone is restrained under the guise of being polite and staying within societal boundaries. To see a character that is so… out there, even if its presented through violence is thrilling.
Another part is that most of these characters have an obsession or fixation on the MC. Irl, that would be terrifying but as fiction, there’s something stable about that. They’re obsessed with the MC, typically for a reason that cannot be replicated. The single-minded devotion and the idea of never having to worry about competing for their attention because there is and never will be anyone else is appealing in a fictional RO.
There’s also the whole idea that danger, or perceived danger, gets the hormones going. In that context, there is probably nothing more dangerous than a life and death struggle. Both parties putting their all into it, hiding nothing, with everything on the line.
This is sort of probably more of a me thing, but as someone who is asexual but not aromantic, I find life and death fights as a pleasing substitute for sex scenes. It has the same romantic undertones, emotions and “story” beats that are typically present in erotica but without the… sex.
Idk just my perspective as someone who enjoys fictional murdery ROs. Never would want to date one irl, but fascinating for me to read about because theres a sort of danger and intensity to them that I find many conventional ROs lack.
I don’t think you needed to really explain yourself, you like what you like, as long as people understand the boundaries of fiction and reality. I think we’re good…
