Disliked Elements, Mechanics, and Tropes

Honestly, I find the hate against this one overblown. I see so many people saying (this is basically the slogan) “where were their parents” about this kind of show and it’s like… it’s a show for that demographic. I actually still enjoy shows like that.

Oh yeah. That’s literally the worst kind of game. Especially in COG games where saves aren’t a thing.

I’m not strictly against it. I do think there’s valid stories to be told with destiny and prophesy, even if nowadays we generally prefer stories where the hero carves their own path. With all the times it’s been deconstructed, I kinda want a reconstruction at some point. Nonetheless, it’s pretty grating most of the time, I agree. There’re far more interesting ways to get the hero involved in the story. Give them an actual motivation.

I think by far my least favorite trope is one where a religion modeled after a real-world faith is secretly (or openly) a corrupt, evil organization. What to JRPG writers have against Catholicism? It’s not specific to Catholicism I’m just a Catholic who likes a lot of Japanese media. They even tried to make them sympathetic in Fire Emblem: Three Houses but failed miserably and (ironically) I sided with the bad guys. Let’s hope (heh) Three Hopes does it better since there was something about a rival, more progressive church forming by order of said bad guy.
