Dashingdon: Free ChoiceScript Game Hosting

Did something happen on Dashingdon? I’m suddenly getting Script Error on every page (in games, not the game list).

EDIT: scratch that, problem solved. The culprit was in my browser extensions. :person_facepalming:

I think only the first slot gets overrided, rest of the slot work fine

Hi, I’m having trouble reseting my password. When I try to I never recieve an email to reset it. I even tried alternative email I might have used but still no reset email. Is there anything that can be done? Thank you, I hope this isn’t a bother.

Please send a message to dash@donelliston.com from the email address you used to register (to verify ownership) and I will reply with a temporary password.

Hi! I’m new here, but I was just wondering if anyone else is having this issue. Basically:

  1. I play the game.
  2. I save it (the green box pops up. When I load it to test the save everything’s fine).
  3. I close the browser window.
  4. The save is gone.

I’ve tested this in a ton of different ways to see how I can get the save file to stick around. From what I can tell, if I log out and then log back in the save file is perfectly intact, even if I close the relevant browser tabs (as long as the window itself is still open).

If I close the window, then log back into Dashingdon with the same account, the save file is gone. I tried loading it in case it turns out that it just deleted the name, but no dice. I obviously can’t keep the window running forever, so help, please? Is this an issue with Dashingdon or should I report the bug to the author?

Some extra notes: I’m doing this in Incognito mode (no reason why). Could that be a cause? Or could it be a browser issue?

Sounds like your browser clears site data/cache/cookies (not sure which) when you close it. You might need to check your browser settings (although I assume incognito mode might do that automatically).

Dashingdon saves are stored in your browser, being logged in or not should have no effect in that. It’s Moody/Cogdemos where you need to be logged in for saves.

Yeah, incog gets rid of cache and site data, so that might be it. So if Dashingdon saves are stored in the browser, it isn’t possible to use a different browser or a different device without replaying, right?

That is correct.

Okay. At least I know what to expect from now. Thanks!

Hello.
I’m not sure if this is a problem with every game or just the one I’m having problems with but I’m currently playing Infamous by Amy and after a certain point it just buffers endlessly. I’ve tried this on multiple browsers and devices. What can i do to fix this ?

Amazing! I just discovered this. While trying to run my game for the first time it keeps telling me I am using non-existent commands. This was working fine when I ran it directly off of my computer. The first two so far have been *ifid and *create_array. Can anyone please advise?

Dashingdon hasn’t been updated for a while, and its successor site, cogdemos, is still in progress. I’m afraid those commands just won’t work on Dashingdon, and nor will checkpoint saves. :frowning:

Oh, good to know. Do writers then tend to use a different tool that you’d recommend?

I don’t know what writers who use arrays do, I’m afraid–maybe one of them can answer? The array commands will work on Cogdemos, not sure if they work on Moody now.

I don’t add IFID until just before publication.

An alternative to Dashingdon or Moody.ink (Don’s updated hosting site, before he ran out of time to keep them going) is to compile your draft game and put it up on itchio.

Thanks! I tried out Cogdemos and that seems to be working just fine.

Btw I can’t seem to log into moodyink in there doesn’t even have a link to reset your password

Anyone know whats wrong with dashingdon? I tried logging on and it only tells me its an invalid match. I did a password reset and no email for password reset. I used the site successfully earlier today, but cant seem to get in now.

Bro i want to save my playthrough to the choice of game forum so i can play book 2 of the game im playing but dashindon wont allow tht will this issue ever be resolved

I posted this on the moody thread, but figured I would post here as well. The moody code has been rewritten. New features include:

  • It uses the newest available version of choice script (which means it can handle checkpoints).
  • The design has been updated.
  • Named saves have been added for logged in users. The limit is ten per game, and you can’t accidentally save over another save because you have to delete a save to save again once you’ve hit the limit. I may add more to this later, but don’t want the databases bogged down.
  • Authors now have the ability to choose whether or not to share their code (i.e., allowing players to view the “scenes” directory). As a player, I hate this, but know some authors may want it.
  • Adding cover art should work now.

Once this has been running for a couple of weeks without any bugs, I intend to get to work on local saves, for those who don’t want to log in. Other plans are in the works, such as linking to patreon for authors who want to authenticate their users for extras behind the paywall and the ability to import your stats for sequels (should authors want to allow it for testing purposes). The latter will be complicated, and will take a while to implement, but I think it would be useful.

For players… a back button, built into cogdemos. It may be a bad thing for a published game, depending on your opinion, but for testing, I think it would be extremely useful. But that’s further down the line.

For those who want to try the new site:
