Cyberpolice (Minor Update: 9th of November 2024) (WIP)

No update today.

Deadline for next update: 2nd of July.

Much more sane schedule today, got a decent amount done. Probably the same for the rest of the week. If all goes well things will progress well. I’m not saying the update will be done at the deadline, but you never know. Still, it’s the plan. :stuck_out_tongue:

Hey its cool bro, keep up the good work. This is definitely one of my most liked WIPS, the very definition of a flawed masterpiece.

Question, is a poly/harem romance going to be included? or a love triangle?

Also why are the ROIs gender locked? Can a male or female MC romance everyone or will there be gender locked ROIs?

Me personally I think characters such as Chief Chaska and Ulrika Daniels are way too good to not be romance options and they should definitely be in the story more instead of being side characters.

The characters personalities in this story is way too good for romance to not be a main part of the story imo, actually surprised Romance hasn’t been implemented halfway through the story.

Also I did notice one thing, the female characters are pretty interesting and well written but the male characters are not as interesting, Stillwater is pretty cool but Mouse is childish and lame imo so I’m surprised he’s a romance interest at all.

I would also recommend the Description in this page to include the Romance Interests and Main Characters. I like the Codex and I hope a Codex on the main characters you meet with a detailed description of their appearance and background will appear soon.

Keep up the good work Author. We need more Cyberpunk stories for sure.

Deadline for next update: 7th of July. (as I’ll be taking a short trip on the weekend, I’d like to get it ready before I leave)

Progress is at a tolerable level(for the new deadline, that is). Sadly spent too much time having fun rather than working.

Depends on how much work it is and if I can make it good or not. Even if I do include on, it’ll probably be pretty simple and rather than it’s own thing. Just a scene or two more, and a line here and there. Anyway, it’s much later in the future so we’ll see.

By gender locked, do you mean the characters(ie Mouse, Carrington, etc)? They’re gender locked because it’s easier for me to write stuff that way. No need to put a zillion variables referring to them anywhere, and so on. The project is already a lot of work so I need to cut corners where I can.

As for the player’s gender, yes, no matter what your gender is you can romance anyone. There may be some slight variance in the scenes depending on your gender, but probably not too much.

Well, there was a poll for the romanceable characters a year ago or so, and it was limited to just 2 characters for male and female each. For the males Stillwater and Mouse won by a landslide, so it was easy. For the females there was a lot more competition, with Carrington and Mari Badr being the top 2, Chaska being the third pretty close behind, Sheriff Sarah-Lee as the fourth and Bailey the fifth pretty far behind.

The rest only had a few votes. (although I wonder if things would be very different now. Looking at the results, there are some very strange things there and I’m not sure why(like Carrington only having a tiny amount of votes? I’m pretty sure she was number 1 back then. Maybe there were several polls and I can’t find more than one). Hmmh. Maybe I should do a new poll at some point)

Therefore, Ulrika Daniels didn’t have too much interest, at least back then. (0 votes, in fact! )

Chief Chaska will be more in the story once I rewrite the whole thing(later this year), but only a bit. She’s meant to be a somewhat distant character.

Ulrika Daniels will have a lot more screentime, but only if you choose the substory that involves her and her partner(there are three separate substories, only 1 per playthrough). Same goes for the other two pairs(the Designer Soldier pair, and the goofy-“psionic”-detective pair).
(haven’t included the substories yet, but they’re more or less the next thing I’ll be writing, once the current stuff is done)

Thanks for the praise.

There’s a very simple reason for that.

I’ve never written any romantic content, so I’m very unsure of my skills to write stuff like that. Also, I’m not personally super interested in romances in general, so it’s not in my mind when I write the scenes in general. I like to write interesting characters overall, in an all-encompassing manner if possible.

That might be why people like them and want romances, but suppose I DID write a romances and they were terrible? Wouldn’t that be an awful waste?

Heh, goes to show you that people have wildly different opinions. Stillwater is especially extremely popular among the readers, and Mouse is quite popular too.

What can I say? Childish and lame can be pretty attractive at times.

I’ll change it once I actually make the romances in any real way.

Although in practice I suppose I’ll change the first post once I complete the “Major Update”(rewrite of the game), since I don’t feel the game is at it’s best at present, so I don’t want people to get the wrong idea by including a lot of stuff that don’t exist.

I suppose it’s a good idea to update the codex sooner than later. I’ll see about it at some point.

Yeah when I played the game it felt pretty linear, are the substories already implemented right now? A guide on how to access the substories or variants would be nice.

Also Yeah I don’t remember the Goofy Psionic Detective pair, what are there names again? A Codex of the characters would be nice for sure.

Well this is just my view but an average romance is better than no romance but your writing skills is pretty good on the characters and personalities so I have trust in your abilities Author.

Well you spend most of the story with your “squad” which are Carrington, Mouse and Stillwater and they get the most screentime lol, in fact I don’t remember the other male characters other than Mouse and Stillwater so the competition is low for male characters, I don’t mind since I always romance female characters though. Ulrika, Mari and Chaska are fantastic characters though.

I would like to know though, is Mari considered a “villain” in this story or just a side character? I mean the “bad guy” in this story has rarely appeared so I’m not sure who the “villain” is?

Also a question about the “Designer” humans, since they aren’t people in the legal sense can they be “bought” by individuals? and are their appearances always Grey Skin and Grey Hair? I don’t remember much about them but they are all Grey right? Are their appearance changeable?

Deadline for next update: 7th of July. (as I’ll be taking a short trip on the weekend, I’d like to get it ready before I leave)

Got a bit done. Somewhat busy for a few days but it should be okay.

Not yet implemented. I’ll be working on them soon.

At the moment all the important branches are very obvious, from what I recall, like choosing whether to cooperate with the corporation or with city hall, and whether to go with Stillwater or Mouse and Carrington in the slums, etc.

The smaller variations are way too numerous to mention, like the media-attitude you’ve chosen, who you hang out with, do you go back to your hotel in a bus, or other things that change within scenes depending on your dialogue options and so on.

Kaarina Evelyn and Omar Mason. I think at present they’re only seen at “Fun Tuesday”(although Evelyn has a scene if you talk to the mascot at the relative beginning).

Thanks for the vote of confidence.

That’s true. The distribution of male and female characters was originally planned to be roughly half-and-half, within each scene/category/organization, but sometimes the characters are spread out in weird ways. Like, you might not really see Chief Prosecutor Harmsworth all that much unless you get to interrogate people, etc.

Who knows? Wouldn’t it be a massive spoiler if I told her role?

She’s one of the main suspects, in a sense, and like the other main suspects, she is purposefully written to be more ambiguous than a clear-cut character.

There’s no obvious on-screen villain as such, at least not in the traditional sense.

Theoretically perhaps they could be bought, but in practice all of the Designer Soldiers are owned by the government(due to a deal with ABGS over ten years prior), and assigned to the Neo-Terminus Police Department, so there’s no way they would be sold in the first place.

Aside from them, Mari Badr is the only other publicly known Designer Human, and she’s definitely not for sale.

Thus, even though it might be legally possible, it isn’t possible in practice.

They were never mass-produced to any real degree, and gestation times are quite slow, so they’re not not considered to be a commodity. Besides, it ain’t great for company PR if you sell creatures that some might consider to be human beings, even if it might be lawful.

And AmriBrad GS is the only known company with the know-how and production facilities to even make them in the first place, so that pretty much means they aren’t sold anywhere in the world.

As for their appearance, Mari Badr’s skin/hair isn’t grey, only the Designer Soldiers have that color-scheme.

As for whether their appearances are changeable, it depends. During the genetic-design process, for sure, but once they’re born? No, not really. (although I toyed with the idea that they might be able to change their skin at will or with the aid of chemicals, but that’s one of the many “could cause too many story inconsistencies” things I’ve ultimately tossed out).

Yeah I did find it strange that the Cyberpunk setting had Designer Soldiers in the story or artificial humans and instead of focusing on that aspect we’re focused on a murder mystery. I think Detroit Become Human is a story based on the consequences of having artificial humans.

Well all I’ll say is that the story is already set but maybe a sequel or other stories set in the same universe should focus on that aspect more, an artificial human on the run or something, just sounds more interesting than a cop simulator in my opinion.

Because most murder mysteries tend to be simple, its “who killed this person and why” and you spend most of the time finding out the clues and such.

Anyways keep up the good work, I guess the story is halfway complete right? so 50% done?

Deadline for next update: 7th of July. (as I’ll be taking a short trip on the weekend, I’d like to get it ready before I leave)

Was busy today, no work done.

It’s done on purpose. The Designer Human stuff was always meant to be on the background rather on the foreground. It’s extremely important in many ways, but more a setting piece than a blatant story piece(although depending on your finale and ending and so on, it may be super important or irrelevant, you’ll see once we get there some beautiful day).

As for other stories, who knows. Useless to speculate until this is finished.

Regarding the murder mystery and clue finding stuff, that stuff will be greatly added to the major update I mentioned earlier. Fact is, while I’ve been writing this many things have changed in many ways, and I kinda figured some might, so I’ve kept the clues and mystery stuff to a relative minimum(also not to spoil any stuff until we’re well into the story). In the final version that stuff should be represented far more(including the player investigating privately without the others, if you so choose).

Hard to estimate how much there’s still left. Kind of a lot, kind of not. The “main branch” of the story is maybe 3/4 complete, but the optional and substory stuff has barely began, and they effect the main branch quite a bit, so it’s really tough to say.

I hope to get it done this year, but at this pace that’s probably not gonna happen. Still, I’ll be optimistic on how much I’ll get done this summer. :stuck_out_tongue:

Deadline for next update: 14th of July(Friday)

Didn’t get a whole lot done, but at least I returned to work, which is always a good thing.

Decided to put the deadline to Friday since that way there’s less chance I’ll have to push it back again. :stuck_out_tongue: (plus I’m busy tomorrow for the most part, so might not get anything done).

Actions speak louder than words, I suppose, and I guess mine have been singing a consistent song of delays for a while now. :stuck_out_tongue:

Fortunately I’ll have a lot more free time relatively soon, so things might proceed faster than currently in the near future. (although I do understand skepticism as to this claim as well. :stuck_out_tongue: )

If only I could get back to the pace I had two years ago, where I actually did daily updates for a while. Admittedly the writing was quite a bit simpler back then, since I didn’t really need to take anything into account, but it should still be doable at least for some parts even at this part of the story. Anyway, one can always hope.
