… I was joking, but, wow, nice
Update:
- The quicksave slot is now active. It’s a single slot, so you just overwrite it each time you quicksave. It will prompt you, just so you know you’re about to overwrite it.
- A warning modal will now appear when you start to load a save, informing you that you’ll lose your place in the game.
More to come soon, but I’m going to be kind of slammed tomorrow and over the weekend, so it will probably be next week before any other changes are made.
Edit:
@Sujan_Dhakal I just added a “Code” button. If an author shares their code, the button will be there when you play the game. Clicking it will open /scenes in another tab.
Hope that makes things easier!
How do I set up the quick save?
As long as saves are allowed in a game, the quick save button will be there (shown below):
To use it, all you have to do is click it. It will pop up a modal that tells you that you’re going to overwrite your quick save slot (even if there’s nothing there, lol).
You’ll notice that the above shows that it’s a local quicksave. If you’re logged in, you can quicksave to the server.
Once you have your quicksave saved, you can overwrite it again with a click, or load your last quicksave. First, click “Saved Games”:
The quicksave slot will be at the top of your saves (whether on local or server). Just click “Load” and it will load the save.
Note: just like with other saves, you can’t save on the initial screen. When I tried to save the above slot, it failed. I had to proceed a screen to get a save.
@AChubbyBlackCat This is probably one of the posts you will want to pin. I’ll put up more user instructions/docs later to help.
Okay thanks! It works now. ![]()
Can’t pin, but I’ll figure something out!
Can I ask why the option to block code diving even exists? Was it a highly requested feature by authors? It just seems silly considering not even COG as a company blocks code diving in CS games (something I’m grateful for as a busy adult that likes to code dive for new chapters and updates because who has the time to replay from the beginning all the time, it also helps me report bugs when I spot them). I’m struggling to see any benefit to it if I’m being honest.
I personally don’t want people to see my code at this point of my game development because it contains giant spoilers that I don’t want to get out just yet. There are many hidden parts to the game that are not meant for the reader to see yet. If someone wants to help solving bugs while code diving, they can still do it during beta testing, which is what beta testing is for. I will probably turn on code sharing later, but not at this point. Plus, most problems in the text cannot be seen in code mode. Paragraph breaks, page breaks, transitions, going from one chunk of text to the next by labels, and many other things that make the game readable, are only noticeable if you read the game in normal mode, which I don’t often do, so I have to rely on my readers to spot those.
So I’m very grateful to @EvilChani for having this function at all. Please don’t change it. If someone doesn’t want to use it, they literally don’t have to do anything.
Published games already went through this process, so by the time it gets to the public, a lot of people have seen the code and read the whole game. It wouldn’t make sense to block it.
Edit: Oh, yeah. Blocking the code also makes it harder to steal the game. Which is known to happen for WIPs. So there is that too.
The images still aren’t showing up.
That question is better directed at @EvilChani.
Well the question is for anyone in general because I’m assuming it was a requested feature and I can’t personally see the pros outweighing the cons of this. Especially for an early in development project and definitely for HG projects so I’m glad I asked. I know that I won’t be likely to check out or test code blocked wips but at least I can understand where those creators might be coming from.
This is a fair point honestly.
Is there someway you can make the cover art fixed to a certain size on mobile? Some of the images go over the description or even overlap other games making the text unreadable.
That’s strange. I tried switching browsers to see any changes like safari, firefox, and brave. It still looks the same on my side.
Probably clear your cookies or try in private instance
There are also authors who have “extras” on Patreon that are meant only for their patrons, and they don’t want someone taking the code and distributing it for everyone and their brother to see.
Now that it is set to share the code by default, it shouldn’t be a problem. That way authors don’t have to do anything unless they don’t want to share it.
What device are you using? It’s possible that you have a device with a resolution that isn’t covered perfectly in the views we set up.
I’m sorry if this isn’t the right place to ask, but I can’t think of any other ideas. Ever since the last update to my After Dark demo, readers have been experiencing some bugs related to *gosub commands in scenes that haven’t even been touched in a long time (probably the first gosub commands in the game). Cogdemos says the return is invalid because the gosub wasn’t called. However, if I test it locally or upload it to itch.io, this doesn’t happen. It’s super frustrating and game-breaking. Does anyone have any advice?
I’m having a weird problem and I was told to try asking for help here, every time I try to start a game I get this and I cannot play anything. It happens to me with almost all the WIPs on the forum, it’s been happening to me for like two weeks, does anyone know what this is?
I apologize for the radio silence, but my husband’s mother fell ill early last week and passed away on Friday, so I haven’t been available.
If you give me a few days, I’ll take a look at it and see if I can figure out what’s going on.
@silvana_Valencia You need to clear your cache and, possibly delete your cookies. Your local storage is full–that’s why you’re getting that error.
Going forward, when you do local saves, I suggest exporting them to your local machine so your local browser storage doesn’t get so clogged. Or you can up the space for your local storage.
I’m so sorry for your loss, my deepest condolences. Real life always comes first, so please take all the time you need.
