There were tags at dashing? I’m only familiar with them on itch.
Yes, you can add tags to games that you upload, and filter games by tags on there. (I did not use that very much.)
@CC_Hill You mind sending me a link so I can test it? It will have to be after work, but I can test tonight and see what’s going on.
(and how to reproduce the error, if you don’t mind)
It’s public Here. And no worries. Take you time. ![]()
And to reproduce the error, you can click click click until chapter 2 and it’s this choice
There also appears to be the same problem with an achievement in my demo, I couldn’t see any other issue when I opened the file in COG Demos or in CSIDE.
@CC_Hill Weirdly, I got the achievement (yes, I should be working…but decided to take a late lunch)
Just a few questions:
- Were you playing from a loaded save?
- Had you cleared your cookies and cache completely since you were at cogdemos last? This is the issue we had before with the persistent cookie to help people pick up where they left off–we can’t do that because of this issue with the achievements and variables. @Havenstone and @jcollins had to go through a bit of a pain to clear all the cookies and cache, but once it’s done, everything worked.
- Have you tried it from a private instance of your browser or from a different browser altogether (preferably one you’ve ever used to access cogdemos.ink)?
I think that’s it. I’ll check in again later. But the achievement popped right up for me. Did a speed run in another browser, and was able to get it there, too.
First time uploading the game and I was just running through it to see if it worked.
No I will do that now.
I just did and it worked fine. So I need to clean my caches and cookies. Sorry. Now I feel stuppaid!! ![]()
Thank you so much! You are awesome! ![]()
Hello, I’ve been having a problem, the Chrome translator isn’t translating the text even though it’s activated.
I belive most of the future complaints are going to be related to this. @EvilChani It would be best to have the popup message that @jcollins suggested done prior to the other fixes, so you can focus on the actual new issues
Yep, I intend to implement that as soon as I can.
I was made aware of that problem today. I will try to get it fixed as soon as possible. Not sure why it doesn’t work.
@EvilChani it’s not a pressing issue but I saw you wrote in the dashingdon thread that you did something with the update counter. Is it supposed to be showing today’s date and is now starting the count from here? Just because I did not touch the game files today. My last update was on the 10th.
Well, shit.
I’ll change it back to use lastupdate and sort by that, instead of updated_at. Gimme a bit to fix it.
@jcollins I fixed it now. Had to change the way the lastupdate date was read to use it correctly. So the sort order should be fixed now.
Wow, so many things are changing so fast around here. I just wanted to say thank you @EvilChani for your handwork with this new hosting platform!
Regarding the achievements button: I did a little test, and it does show on landscape mode on my phone, but not on portrait mode. Seems definitely related to screen width, I’d say.
EDIT: Okay, I double-checked. The same thing seems to happen on official releases, so I guess it’s in-built.
Wow, you are fast. Try to take it easy when you can though, there are so many new people and games migrating now, but none of these issues are life threatening - they are just games and people can always wait a few days to get the problems sorted out. Thank you for your hard work and take care of yourself as well!
Maybe when you have time after all this chaos, it would be nice to set up a donation thingy for the upkeep of the website? I’d definitely like to help out keeping it up and running
I don’t think most people even know that you are doing this out of your own money all alone, like most people also assumed that dashingdon was run by the COG company (including me, for a long time, until I accidentally stumbled upon a very old post by Don mentioning it when he set up the website all those years ago), not just one independent person out of the kindness of their heart.
Although this isn’t something essential, I’d like to share it anyway. When you switch pages or access the stats/settings menu, the automatic translation, at least on mobile, doesn’t work, and you have to do it manually.
While my understanding of english isn’t too bad, I prefer to read things in my own language xd.
Aside from that tiny detail, the page feels great!
Just wanted to slip in here and thank EvilChani (not going to ping you, I think you’ve got enough on your hands as it is) for setting up such a great hosting site <3 I haven’t been active on the forums for too long aside of my own WIP thread but seeing all the chaos surrounding Dashingdon and all the work that gets put into granting us poor authors and readers a new place to thrive at, it’s just something to look up at. I managed to move my entire WIP over in a few clicks! It’s very great so far.
Only struggle I’ve walked into thus far is how the saving system does not want to work with me at all- but maybe that’s just me, haven’t quite looked into that one yet.
Like jcollins mentioned up here, if there is any way to donate for the site’s upkeep, I’d love to help out in that regard.
hi! is there any way to look @ a game’s code like you used to be able to do in dashingdon?
Yes, if the author has enabled it you can see the files by adding /scenes after the game name.
For example: https://cogdemos.ink/play/hpowellsmith/gender-and-pronoun-setting-example/scenes for the playable template here.
I’ve been picking up a lot from the dev. I knew some PHP when I took over the site (I’m a server and database admin, not a programmer!), but since I got this dev to rewrite the entire site in laravel, I’ve learned a lot. Fixing the sorting wasn’t so bad for me–probably because it was mostly dealing with pulling info from the db.
Thanks.
You don’t know how much I appreciate your support with this. It has helped so much! And I do intend to take a break this weekend.
I talked to the dev today and he found that, despite me pulling his fix for the cookie thing, the site was still loading as though the fix had not been pulled. He is about 99% certain that’s why some people are still getting the achievement issues. He told me to run a laravel cache and view clear to ensure the correct views are loaded, which I just did–I’m hoping that fixes the issue once and for all. He believed that, once I did that, it would negate the need for a modal to warn people about the cookie problems.
Thanks!
Does the translation work on the main site and when playing the games? I was looking into this last night before bed, and I think it may be an i-frame issue that’s keeping the translator from translating.
Oof. I though the save system had been fixed. Is it local saves or server saves giving you trouble? I’ve tested both, but I tend to run through fast, save, close, reload, etc., so I may have missed something.
Yep, and if the author chose not to share code, it will give you an error stating that fact.
