Since yesterday (when I tried to get rid of yet another problem of mine regarding that site by deleting my “browsing data,”) every time I try to play a game on this forum, my phone just refuses and shows this to me:
This exact message is on the “High School Revenge” game but it also has happened on “The Abyss,” “Sword of Rhivenia” and “The Marked.”
I don’t get what the hell is going on. Is this a site problem because when I played “One Knight” (a game that didn’t seem to be converted over to COGDemos) worked just fine.
Working on this. It seems to work sometimes and not others, which is strange.
Yes, I think that will be possible. I will add it to my ever-growing list of things to do, lol.
I’m not sure. Try clearing your cache and cookies and see if it still pops up. If it does, try a different browser and see what happens (or use a private instance of the browser you’re using).
Is this an iphone? I’ve seen problems writing to storage on iphones because they are persnickety about anyone doing anything they can’t control.
Hey everybody. Sorry if I mess everything up with this post, I haven’t really ever used this forum before. I’ll also preface by saying I’m pretty tech-illiterate, at least to the extent that I know absolutely nothing about programming, json or javascript. I read that apparently javascript questions aren’t allowed - but I assumed if they’re related to cogdemos in particular, it might be fine? Apologies if not.
I’ve encountered an issue that, from what I can tell, never really gets mentioned online. It might very well be a problem on my part. In any case, I was playing Infamous on cogdemos, and, upon crossing the threshold over to chapter one, I can absolutely not, no matter what I do, export the saves. However, if I delete any saves I’ve created past the prologue, exporting works again. As soon as I create a save in chapter one, it breaks again, etc.
I had planned pasting here a few images, in case someone could’ve helped me decipher the issue. However, I can’t even do that, I’m assuming because of my low user level. So I’m pretty much stuck.
This seemed to work a few months ago, but I took a break, and now that I’ve come back I encountered the issue. I decided to, upon seeing I can’t export, wipe the cache, storage and cookies. This is actually my third time starting over and encountering this issue, hoping that something would go differently.
If needed, I can copy and send any of the actual strings of text. I didn’t want to clutter the thread so I didn’t put them here since they’re very long.
I asked the dev to look at the issue, but the only way he could replicate the problem was to use a really old device with practically no memory (the browser crashed altogether, but it crashed going to amazon, too, lol). I tried loading it on moody (as a restricted game so only I could get to it). I played through the first few chapters with no issues at all, and couldn’t figure out what the problem was (tried a bunch of different choices).
On my last run, I got past the “time to go” prompt, made a choice and hit the back button. It didn’t bomb, but it sat there spinning incessantly. Checked the logs–no errors, but it was repeatedly checking access permissions while it was spinning, so I’m thinking you’re right about it being a gosub causing the issue. I think it’s tripping up on the back button trying to solve the gosub.
Did you get the problem going forward in the game? That’s what I thought had happened, but never could reproduce that. The back button, however, seems to have trouble in a couple of places (I had randomly used it before with no issue, but the “time to go” spot seems to be where a lot is triggered).
Anyway, I sent what I found to Csaba, and added him to the list of users that can get to the temporary load of your game so he can see it in action, and let him know how I triggered the issue. I will let you know what he says.
Here are some instructions that should help:
DM me with them, please. Some of these problems appear to be device issues, which I can’t really help with. I have never encountered it myself, though I mostly use my laptop. I’ve played Infamous on my phone with no issues, either.
I couldn’t get past that point at all, to be honest. I’m probably going to ask something silly, but… if there isn’t an immediate solution right now, do you think you could make the “Back” button optional? So that if a game has loading issues, the bug can be avoided, at least?
I just sent him a message with that question. I had considered making the back button optional/toggleable, anyway, since some players may not like the ability (why???), but never bothered. Now, there seems to be a valid reason for having it. I really do think it’s the gosubs causing it, but I never had a problem moving forward through the game, only backwards.
Do you want to try the restricted version I put up to see if you get the same issue? I’m curious, since I had no problem until I used the back button.
I keep trying and trying and trying to change the covert art image for my demo on CoGDemos, but repeatedly it isn’t working. It’s been driving me up the wall. My friend helped me make new cover art because I cropped my old cover poorly upon the initial release.
Please someone tell me I can change it and it isn’t doomed to remain poorly cropped… Help!
Edit: I wanted to quickly add that it accepts the photo dimensionally and such, but once I click the “update” button, it doesn’t appear with the updated image.
Sorry for the radio silence. Work’s been a bitch of late.
If you look on moody, there’s no an option to disable/enable the back button for your game. Can you check and see if that fixes the issue? Csaba was able to reproduce the issue after I told him to go back and forth with the back button a few times. He doesn’t see anything in the code that should result in the problem you were having, but agreed with me that it might be the way I have rate limiting set up. This weekend, I’ll tinker with that setting some and see if I can fix the problem with it interfering with the back button–I don’t want to disable it but maybe I can loosen the restrictions a bit.
Let me know how if disabling the back button fixes it, though, please!!
Is this still an issue for you? You should be able to change the cover without any issue. You may need to delete your cookies and site data to see it, however. Sometimes that stuff gets stubbornly stored and won’t reflect changes.
Thanks for your help, Tina. I get what it’s like to be swamped with work, don’t worry!
What I’m about to tell you is really strange, I know. I opened Moody to run the test you asked for, this time from a different laptop. I figured, before running the test without the Back button, it made more sense to first run it with the Back button again. Just to be clear, I didn’t change any files in the meantime. I got to the point where it usually froze, and after a couple of seconds of loading, it went through.
Weird, I thought. So I tried again on the laptop where I had been able to reproduce the error: turned it on, opened Moody, and at that same point… two seconds and it loaded!
Then I tried doing what you did: went back and forth with the Back button a couple of times, and sure enough, on the second try it went into a loop. But keep in mind, this was literally the first time I’d ever used the Back button at all. I haven’t even cleared the cache or anything: before, it simply didn’t work before, and now it does.
Really weird. At this point, I don’t think it makes much sense to run myself the test without the Back button; I guess I’ll have to text back to the user who first reported the issue and ask them to try again, and if she still runs into the problem, I’ll disable the button and let you know how that goes.
You didn’t change anything in the code, besides adding the option to disable the button, right?
Yes, that’s the only thing in the code that changed. I did, however, clear the cache and routes in laravel, so that might have had an effect on the issue.
Let me know if you see it or hear complaints about it again, though. Like I said, I can try tinkering with the rate limiting and see if that helps, if it pops up again. Thanks for testing and letting me know!
Even disabling the back button does nothing. I’ve recorded a speedrun until one of the points where it gets stuck, if you ever need it, but I think this could be more interesting:
Please try it again. I upped the throttle a bit in laravel and was actually able to get through until I died without it crashing. I would recommend against spam clicking, however, considering it’s running the gosubs. I gave it a second or so before hitting next and had no issues.
I don’t really want to up the throttle much more than I did this time (I doubled what I had set it to before–it’s now 30 requests per minute per IP as opposed to 15/minute/IP), since people keep trying to DDOS the site (I’m still seeing a ton of attacks, for some reason, which is so freaking nice of people to do…), but if you’re still having trouble, let me know. I don’t want to push this code to cogdemos until we get it resolved on moody.
Thanks for your patience! And sorry for the delay… been slammed of late.
Hey so, I recently did a search that returned no results, which gave me a mostly-blank page (I mean, the header was there, but nothing else), which made me wonder if my connection just dropped halfway through (because I tend to get half-rendered webpages when that happens), so I was wondering: for clarity’s sake, would it be possible to have the search results say “no results found” or something in case of… well, no results?
Hello, idk where to go or where to message as the cogdemos site doesn’t seem to have a support option, but i keep trying to verify my email and each time i click the link it says the link is expired or changed. Like, i would do it all with in a minute or so, i don’t think it expires so quickly. Any fixes or what should i do?
Yep, I can do that. I just updated the code on cogdemos to what has been running on moody for a while now. It adds a back button (author can turn it off, if they so choose) and a landing page (with terms of service and all that legal crap).
I am working on something for Patreon authors, and the dev is planning out how to get the next major update done (which should include the ability to import saves for sequels), but adding a “no results found” return if that’s the case shouldn’t be too difficult to add for me. I’ll try to get that done first. The thing for Patreon authors is more complicated and is javascript, which I freaking loathe…
Are you still having this problem? I set up a dummy account and used the password reset, but had no trouble with it, so I’m not sure why it was giving you a fit. It definitely shouldn’t expire so quickly!
Having a hard time logging into choice demo to upload my 5th chapter, anyone know why it might not let me log in? Just goes to a blank white screen when I attempt to do so. Haven’t had the issue previously, though I’m doing this on a new laptop.
