Choice of Rebels: Stormwright (XoR2 WIP)

As it’s come together: you’ll arrive in Irduin in the gameworld’s equivalent of late May/early June, a few weeks before midsummer (Langday). You’ll leave in the winter, shortly before or after Langnight. So more like half a year than a year.

The Court Season in Grand Shayard is six weeks in Feb-March, before the weather starts getting hot, and often trails on a few more weeks until late spring. The aristarch who stayed into summer was really enjoying his Season.

Hmm, so what if we could use magic to create that kind of communication technology and a republic?

@Havenstone
Also, would that even be possible?

@Havenstone I was rereading the dialogue on prospective titles for Game III, and I had a possible idea. What about Metropolis? It’s a word of Greek origin meaning “mother city,” which could be fitting in a couple of ways. First, its origin works as a reference to the real-world inspiration of Greece on the Hegemony. Secondly, it indicates the important role that the player’s time in Grand Shayard will play, both as a current provincial capitol and its legacy as the “mother city” of its former empire.

I actually quite like Metropolis. It’s snappy.

People imaginate modern cities when they read the word “metropolis”, not Early Modern cities

I see this as an advantage, not a disadvantage, and it certainly fits with the image of modernization and progress that players are trying to achieve.

It’s also a real Greek term that was in use since ancient times iirc.

My modern-Greek brain thinks ‘diocese’ whenever the word Metropolis is mentioned…

Finished part 1 long ago. Trying to get back into it.

How does this implement prior points, saves only? Will there be a question answer affect to not need to go back to first one?

you cant carry your save from game 1 yet. at these point character creation is done by some questions and choices

The question was about upon release. Sorry, I didn’t clarify.

I wanted to know if part 2 upon release can bypass repeating 1 with Q&A. I dont have a save obviously and struggle to get thru beginning of part 1.

Well if memory serves once the second game is nearly done somewhere around 80 or 90 percent done the first game typically in the past for games that have followups do it based off saves that can be done by playing the first one again.
Now i think there has been some that have done something different or attempted it at least but i cant recall those games names at the moment.

Almost all want a save and several do basic Q&A. Some elements not carrying over.

This one seems it would have more.

Nevermind me.

There will be a Q&A in the released version-- it can’t possibly cover all the possible outcomes of G1, but it should cover the main points. If you’ve played through the WIP at the top of this thread, you should have a sense of what that will look like – just ignore the page that has you picking e.g. whether you rescued a helot from Plektoi, and the rest of the Q&A spread out across Ch 1 should be what you get in the release version of G2. (There will be a few more Qs and As in later chapters where things like how much democracy or literacy you encouraged among your rebels become relevant).

I’m kind of fond of the idea of a demarchy - it runs a nice balance between technocracy and expertise based governance while having reasonable built in mechanisms to resist the fashy tendencies of professional consolidation of power. It also limits entrenchment of personal interests.

Lots of downsides, obviously who “picks” the lottery can be a massive liability but that’s one we currently have already.

I was trying to figure out how many literate helots live in the Rim using the knowledge of the total population of the Outer Rim (107K), that half the population of the Hegemony are helots, and rural helots have a literacy rate around .5%

If these number still hold up there should be about 250 literate helots in the Outer Rim, which is around the max number you can teach to read during the winter in game 1 (with the additions of Etthena and Korszata). This means you’ve effectively doubled the local helot literacy rate

*set literate 2

@Havenstone I see you used this for helots who learn to read from M’kyar or Cerlota in chaos2.txt . This stat was used to track the number of literate followers in game 1. You used *if (int = 2) or aristo and *if (int < 2) and helot to check for MC literacy before, but now that an int 1 helot can be literate maybe you should create a new stat to check literacy?

Yeah, I caught this mistake myself as I was working on Ch 2. There’s now a me_lit stat.

ADAT @Zoilus joined the conversation on the WIP thread and would go on to give loads of thoughtful engagement with the gameworld and suggestions like letting MCs with Karagond names change them. Thanks @Zoilus !

I hope football is a popular sport in Irduin. My MC’s entire July there will be scouting the young talent and training them for the Hegemonic Cup.

The football fervor from our team qualifying for the knockout stage is carrying over :rofl:
