I’ve also noticed that sometimes it hasn’t been removing free followers from my total when I raid the aristocrats grain barns. Maybe that’s messing with what’s going on under the hood.
It looks like the attack on the aristocracy’s grain barns is subtracting from followers instead of free_followers and when you take casualties it adds back to followers. Also I can send Radmar to lead an attack on the grain barns in week one, but isn’t he supposed to be sick until week three at the earliest?
Yes, as it is you kind of need week to week save scumming to get acceptable results and let XoR be one of the games that don’t have the save system and force you into an “iron man” mode here.
And I still really hate those damned mules.
True this is the kind of thing better done with a more graphical game, where one can preferably look at and compare the spreadsheets in one window.
Actually, and fate mocks me here, I can survive the winter stealing from everybody but the nobles and merchants, but I suspect I got fairly lucky that run as well and nobles are of course not a group my character wants to go easy on.
Funny that you ask no, it somehow never comes up anymore after I’ve threatened Bleys. I’d assumed I didn’t have enough free deputies or enough of those damned mules.
I am into this epic ever so deep; I feel as if I can touch and see it all. Wow.
No surprise then at week twothreefour and I havemy once proud rebellion leader has gone fetal under a blanket of leaves after running around screaming, “I step down! All hail, Breden!”
And still am quite slow to even recall if sustenance for the mules is taken into account.
Hence, why if I ever get the urge to lead a rl rebellion I shall now simply look into the mirror at the newly attached post-it and the words “You’d be terrible at it” underlined in pink highlighter…
Aw, come on. Wait until all the bugs are ironed out before you form your opinion. I suspect you’ll have an easier time of it once it all works properly.
Personally I like it. It’s actually communicating the sense of pressure and desperation you would feel trying to get the band through the winter, whereas before it required almost no effort to succeed. It definitely needs tweaking, but otherwise you’ll hear no objection from me.
People who don’t like it may just be suffering from a learning curve, imo.
Okay then help me unsuffer, what’s your foolproof strategy oh great @Sneaks? As it stands it’s one or two bad random dice rolls and I’m history. Maybe if we had a save point every week but the current setup is infuriating me.
I’m siding with @Sneaks on this. I just tried playing the way I usually do, only targeting the church and the government officials, leaving the merchants, nobles, and peasants alone… and my army basically crumbled in three weeks. I definitely think it should be balanced, but I wouldn’t dismiss it already. Besides, I already knew I’m making this rebellion much harder than it could be.
If you don’t plunder the town you start out with like two mules and from there on I just tend to have rotten luck if I try to send my horribly untrained rebels to try to get the damned things from anyone but the yeomen and that is if they even manage to find some.
Yes, that and a good amount luck was the only way I succeeded (once) too, but my mc actually wants to raid the nobles.
You can send Breden to ask for mules and they should always come back with two mules. That seems to be the most consistent way to get mules I’ve found. At least aside from scouting for some to steal from the Hegemony which takes a couple weeks. I also don’t assign any mules to the sick until I’ve got at least 8.
Scouting out Hegemonic targets to steal mules from may be the best option if you don’t want to piss off the yeomen or merchants. Assign a large number of your followers to scout and the option should become available to you in around two weeks. They’re easier targets, since it appears they aren’t decided by dice rolls. The monks are a gimme because they don’t fight back, the mining camp is only a matter of properly applied stats.
Unfortunately the mining camp raid doesn’t function atm.
I suppose that not stealing from nobles or merchants was going to be hard, so that’s to be expected.
However, @Havenstone, I think that the issue I had was with the fact that I was always getting confused on how much people I needed to do one thing, since I don’t know how the numbers stack up. It took some time to learn how to manage the band, and I suppose a better explanation would help.
@Everyone, how do you hunt the bear? I haven’t managed.
And what do you people think of creating of creating a TvTropes page for Choice of Rebels?
