Ashenmaw - Dragons of Marrowoods (WIP) (Dragon Fantasy) (ShortStory on 124)

Read two parts so far and absolutely loved it.

It’s funny how I went in blind and on my first playthrough I chose to be a black dragon and it aligned pretty well with my own personality. The innate distrust between the black and red dragons feels completely natural. After finishing the black story I naturally played again through the red story to read into their background and I already dislike them myself, in line with being a black dragon.

So that has already intrigued me very much and I decided to post on here to show my appreciation before continuing with the other stories.

I will definitely be looking forward to what the future holds for this!

EDIT: I almost forgot already but Alerhon saying “And ‘good morning’ to you as well” is exactly how I greet customers when they answer my good morning with “a coffee for me”. So that made me laugh out loud when I read that.

EDIT: I’ll just post all the things I find in here together.

Currently started reading the green story and think I found a typo/mistake:

learn about the whole mess soon enough, it’s much more than could be packed into a flight like this." Alerhon chuckles briefly. “And “The abysmal assembly?””

I’m assuming that should start with “You will learn” instead?

The same page ends with this, which doesn’t seem to make sense.

“You’ll yes, the red and black flight based their naming conventions on these gods. Anything else you’d like to know?” -

This also doesn’t seem to completely make sense to me, but I am not a native english speaker, so I might be wrong here.

Broad ramps of twisting branches stems spiral around the broad trunks, bright colorful blossoms and glowing bulbs blooming along their railings.

In the blue story I’ve found this part where it says “viewed from certain, and…” which I assume is missing something. (PS: I love Acazabri and Nyra so far)

Nyra stops at small raised flowerbed, with a single thin tree in it. The bark has an odd purple shimmer to it when viewed from certain, and the long, blackish branchlets sway gently as if in a breeze.

In the next paragraph it says “if you know how it can transport…”, which I think should have a comma, as in “if you know how, it can transport…”

“That’s a Waypoint Willow,” Nyra announces. “The grey flight helped create it when Salbri and Terhibra got married. If you know how it can transport you from one such willow to another.”

Thank you so much for the feedback
The oddity you found was a bit of mis-formatting after I shifted code around. I’ll fix it with and the typos with the next partial update (likely once you can name your whelp in at least one other path)

Thank you again <3

" Phyron: Black drake, male, same age as Vaelias, approximately. Hate the MC for some reason, stubborn, but possibly with good intentions. terrible flirt "

Well, hello my love. :kissing_heart::two_hearts::rofl::rofl:

Let me give you (and y’all) a quote from much later in the game:

MC: The first time we met, you tried to kill me.
Phyron: No. The first time we met I was glaring at you, making plans to kill you.

yknow its neat how the red dragons are the scrawny diplomats instead of the strong brutes they stereotypically are while the underrated black dragons take that role instead, great variety of species and their niches here

I won’t lie, I did take a bit of inspiration from Warcraft there. (there’s a couple of warcraft easter eggs already too, and I’ll see how well I can expand shout-outs to other dragon franchises  )

Wonder if there are white or purple dragons

as a coloration you can find them amongst the gray and black flight, occasionally. There’s also rumors about crystal and aether dragons, but no one knows anything about that. The blue flight has been doing research, but so far with no concrete results

Still thinking about my little black dragon. I hope your project is doing well and an update is near!

It is. I’m in a bit of a writing slump, but it’s getting there. I just wanna finish at least two other paths if not the chapter :3
but yeah, the path for black whelps is sad.

In the light of dashingdon closing down by the end of the month I added the link to the CoGDemos version.

Thank you.

Hey this is Paper from Reddit. Looks like my trust LV too low to post images, lurkers problem oops
Also, do you have a reference board for their look? might as well draw new art and post it later.
They look just vaguely dragon shapes right now :expressionless:

I can try putting some stuff together for the dragon’s true forms later

edit: Sadly I cannot draw dragons, and there’s no picrews that could really help (usually lacking variety) and i am most certainly not going to use ai >_>

but I’ll find a way :3

That said: here’s the physical descriptions of the dragons from ingame so far:

Alerhon

You open your eyes, staring at a talon larger than you are.

He’s stocky, with dulling, scarred black scales, a short graying beard and mane, torn ears and neck frills, and short, curled, chipped horns. There is a certain kindness and playfulness to him, albeit he’s looking at you rather worried.

Which is easier said than done with the old dragon’s tail curled around you, taking up most off your field of vision.

You’re nestled securely into the dense, feathery mane on Alerhon’s head as the old dragon soars high above the cliffs and the massive forest they’re neighboring.

At this you cuddle deeper into Alerhon’s mane, thinking.

Alerhon fluffs his neck frills in alarm, eyes wide. It’s genuine surprise, though.

Alerhon raises himself to full-height, and there’s something about him that has everyone—you too— stand at attention.

He suddenly snaps his head around and in a blur of dusty black he leaps forward,

Kassias

You peek over the old dragon’s—Alerhon’s—tail, and see a red dragon of maybe the same age come up the slope,

“I cannot believe you’d be this ungrateful after everything we’ve done for you, Alerhon,” the smaller red dragon snarls. “I knew we shouldn’t have…”

Astia

Vivid vermilion scales along a slender but imposing stature, strands of gold glimmering between them. The face is equally slender, with feathery frills, golden antlers and bright, wise, but currently a little irritated looking eyes.

You shift your weight and observe everything happening. Or at least everything you can see over Alerhon’s tail.

Though with Queen Astia standing as tall as she stands, you are probably seeing all of the important things.

Madalumi (Not Mimelumi, but the dragoness Alerhon has a crush on/is courting)

lead by a kindly-looking dragon with short, swooping antlers, and flowers and holly in their mane.

Acazabri

The figure stretches, shifting till a young-ish looking dragon with brilliant azure scales and curly silver horns stands there.

Nice! There is more than enough for Alerhon for me to play around. I think I can make something up. I can’t wait to meet the others and the ROs. There are not enough dragons and waaay too many superheroes with PTSD for my taste haha

Looking forward to the art

On my end, meanwhile, I’m by now done with the black flight path (up to where the paths merge into on again) and almost done with blue.
