Ashenmaw - Dragons of Marrowoods (WIP) (Dragon Fantasy) (Partial Update 06/12 49k/18k)

No worry it’s part of the process of WIP. Darker horns going backward and curled(goats or deer?), that is easy fix. How spiky is he, from 0(smooth like now) to 10(MHW Nergigante)? Are they part of the scales or like horns? There are some more scars that got JPEG crushed. Any special scar designs in mind? I like scars they silently tell stories, too much randomness could look messy. If not too much spoiler, What kind of attacks did he received?

on that scale I’d say 3-4. (and they are like horns, kinda?) and the horns are more like moufflon or hartebeest(just going back instead of up), somewhere between that)

He certainly has scars on the wing-joints and his tail, as those are the spots that cause the most pain (as seen with Phyron) and can, of course, be the most fatal if wings/tail get ripped off/severely injured. His wings are also rather torn.

If I may I’d like to ask the community on their input on what they’d connect with certain cosmetic options.

The plan, right now, is that in the game the shape of horns, fins, spikes etc is partially influenced by your flight, and very much by your actions. Thus, what kind of e.g. shape of the horns would you connect with what kind of action/personality? Like, antlers being seen as a sign of wisdom and connection to nature, maybe?

Yeah it would represent that in a lot of ways same as if the horns pointed outword could be a sign of aggression. Yet just having the option to shape how are dragon/mc looks in greater detail would be awesome thoigh i imagine it would be a lot of work depending on how detailed you go.

If shape is any amount of being a ‘self determined’ attribute, then being symbolic flies right out the window. Not in the most extreme of absolute senses. I wouldn’t say a water buffalo is particularly aggressive just because their horns point outward sideways, any more than an elk is wise for having a tall, many pointed rack.

If there are things in each flights’ inherent forms that aren’t up for customization, that’s where I would put symbolic meaning. The wiggle room with being a color, or metallic shade does give a player some choice about the lore-specifics, but you wouldn’t call a whelp from the red flight ‘brassy’ just because they grew up to be a somewhat lighter shade of golden, just as you wouldn’t call them bronze for being darker.

It is a good thing to consider how much overlap each customizable feature can have with other flights, since each flight isn’t explicitly described as having any flight-exclusive common features outside of their scale colors. Not yet, at least. Gotta dip our snoots deeper into the lore pool before we know for sure.

True.

Well, still put a pin in it. I’ll see to getting chapter one done (quite a bit of lore for the flights in there after all) and we’ll see at a later point. plans are there to be adjusted, after all

Sneak Peek, blue path:

~+~

“Yes, it’s delightful,” Acazabri goes, fluttering his wings before making for a nearby doorway. “Come, I think the eastern staircases went wandering again.”

Alerhon frowns sourly, wings, shoulders and neck fins slumping.

“Eeesh,” he sighs, following after Acazabri. “I’m really getting too old for the antagonistic architecture of this place.”

“It wasn’t always like that,” Acazabri notes towards you, walking through a wall, “I vividly remember that it was a lot easier to navigate.”

“Yeah,” Alerhon harrumphs, descending up a broad staircase. “But that was thousands of years ago.”

“I can’t remember, have I said before that I ought to look into whether that’s because of Papa or simply because of the steadily increasing amount of arcane energy?”

“I cannot remember either.” Alerhon shrugs, and both of them take a casual hop over a wide, gaping chasm.

I don’t need the file as such, but if you do have a tumblr for your art could you upload it there so I can reblog it to the dev blog for the peeps that don’t frequent the forum to see?

Are the ROs available dictated by which colour we choose to be, or can any of them be pursued? Because I can’t stand being around “bubbly” people for long. They’re just too much (for me.)

I don`t why our colour would lock out the others since its just seems like waste of having them all as potential ROs. I think we can do any but i suppose the author has the final say

The ROs mentioned in the first post will all be available. You just meet them in different orders depending on your flight and choices in the second chapter in which order you visit the other lairs.

If you, for example, play as a green dragon, you’ll meet Tea first, followed by Vaelias, and then the order for Phyron, Nyra and Rhidi depends on the order in which you visit the other lairs.

I thought that was the case. Thanks for letting us know.

Feedback request:

I’d like to ask for feedback on the character and especially structuring so far. There’s not much to the story yet, but I need to know if the below structuring is working out for you people:

Chapter 1 will be the introduction of the lairs, some important NPCs like the MC’s parents, and the ROs for each flight (except Arsinoe) and Vaelias, if you play as anything but a red dragon.

Chapter 2 will be kinda-sorta a rehash of ch1 in the sense that Alerhon will take you on running errands to the other lairs. Meeting the other ROs won’t be a direct copy-paste of course (as it is another day and all).

From Ch3 on the story will focus on your first year/first few months at your respective lair, which, yes, will have you stuck with the respective RO at first.
