The Winter Whelp
Bro why does the whelp look so wacky, good art but yk
They are mix between classic dragon and dinosaur with feathers, I think? so I just look up baby birds andâŚthey lookâŚunique lol I kind of draw this blind and fast which is why I ask for references.
I think itâs adorable.
I will say this, when I write the story very often I imagine the whelps to look a little like the old dragonwhelp designs from World of Warcraft. If thatâs help in any way.
edit:
Also, today I learned that the flappy crest-fin-thing on dragonâs throat is called a dewlap. Expect that word to pop up from time to time
Because these make me really giddy, below are two picrew images of Phyron, Vaelias and Rhidi in their mortal guises, smooching.
Not (necessarily) canon (also this would be several years after the game starts), though Phyron is a hopeless flirt (sometimes successfully)
Gorgeous
As for the beard and mane: mane: kinda think Haku from Spirited away, and the beard kinda like on the reference pic on the left above the quotes?
personally I imagine the mane to go all the way to his shoulders, but itâs up to you
Status update:
Kinda stuck on the gray/bronze path right now. Writing Padamonos and Wynnenos was easy, but Rhidiyope (the RO) refuses to manifest a personality. Dx Halp.
People, whelps, I need your opinion:
Working a bit more on the gray path, and I can have Padamonos either appear in his dragon form or desert elf form.
Which do you like better?
True Dragon Form
There, reclining comfortably on a island of pillows underneath a bright orange canopy, a smallish dragon is reading through a stack of papers, the mouthpiece of a giant hookah in one hand.
The dragon is muscled but sinuous, and stands a little smaller than Alerhon or Astia. Long, twisted horns curve over a pitch black mane and feathery neck fins, scales the color of near white sand sparkling in the sunlight, a decided bronze shimmer to them. There is something mischievous about the dragonâs appearance, underlined by the bronze and gold jewelry adorning the horns as well as the floppy ears and the braided beard. Youâre not too certain what to make of the few glittering rings along the dragonâs dewlap, but they do add to the overall impression.
This ought to be Padamonos then.
Desert Elf Form
There, reclining comfortably on a island of pillows underneath a bright orange canopy, another of the bipedal creatures is reading through a stack of papers, the mouthpiece of a hookah in one hand.
Their skin is darker than that of Alerhonâs guise, their hair rows often thick raven-black locks tied back into a short ponytail. They sport a short beard akin to Alerhonâs though theirs is a little longer on the chin, pointier. All in all, you donât think they are the same species as Alerhon, especially when you compare the ears. Alerhonâs are now rounded, albeit ragged, theirs are long with what looks like brush like tufts at their tips.
Their clothes are rather puffy, the light shirt with large sleeves and the dark reddish-brown pants alike. But you reckon that in this weather that might be more advantageous.
Or I can have it random per playthrough, which could fit with the gray flightâs fickleness.
I enjoy both lol an it does kinda appeal to have it vary between play throughs.
Both are good but personally I like the Desert Elf better.
Random for each playthrough feels like a really fun mechanic to play with!
Though if there can only be one, I think going with the Desert Elf Form would provide a good basis for exposition and worldbuilding.
I LOVE the idea of a dragon lounging on pillows, smoking a hookah, and just casually going through his business papers like itâs not at all an unexpected thing to see. For them/in-universe I suppose it wouldnât be, but how often do you come across that as a reader?
To be frank, generally in fiction I have seen things like it a few times, though not as commonly as one might anticipate. And itâs just a wonderful image in general :3
Itâs very reminiscent of the Caterpillar in Alice in Wonderland, too!
heh
Fewer hallucinations and unreliable architecture, though. Well, you got the blue flight for that.
HmâŚare the grey dragons trading blue dragon grown hallucinogenic tobaccoâŚ?
Thatâs for Terhibra and Padamonos to know and for us to speculate about
edit:
@AnneWest Iâd like to inform you i now have a reference to that in the blue whelpâs path, respectively in ch2 when youâll visit the Cerulean Halls.
very nice personally I imagine the horn going the other way and having a darker colour, but this looks great too. Itâs gorgeous :3 (also he has so many more scars and spikes (shoulders and elbow) that I ought to describe at some point. sorry i forgot Dx )
