Are forum suspensions permanent?

Do people get unsuspended or suspensions are permanent, I am asking because a certain user on this forum who was one of my beta testers. Got suspended, I want to know if he is gone forever or it’s temporary?

You can look at a user’s profile and see how long a suspension is for.

If you’re asking, “are permanent suspensions actually permanent?” the answer is “who knows?” But “permanent” suspensions are rarely lifted before less than three years, and usually permanent means permanent.

this is all that shows for me, so thats why I am asking.

That’s a permanent suspension. If it doesn’t say when it ends, it’s permanent.

thank you for the clarification.

So wouldn’t it clearer if it said banned?

Probably.

Discourse prefers a lighter term than “banned,” apparently.

What they have here is an upgrade from what it used to say, where if you banned someone, it used to say that they were suspended for 1,000 years. The Discourse team didn’t seem very interested in improving the message when I spoke to them about it last time, sadly…
