@Denzil_Melgior_Nagel

Hi Denzil,

Welcome to the forcrum. The final ‘tester build’ is almost complete. I’ll be moving on to catch bugs and typos over the coming weeks. A few things may be taken out and some player suggestions may be added. We are closing in on the finished game rapidly now.

If you find typos (I have clumsy fingers) or bugs, please let me know and I’ll fix them.

Cheers!

@NumberedEntity ok hear me out does the orcs have reproductive organs even tho they came out of baborc?

That would be excess to requirements as they are a predatory, plantoid lifeform. What drives them is not the same thing as humans.

EDIT: Though players are free to imagine what they wish…

Would it be possible to fight off the assassins consistently for a few rounds with high defence/personal strength? Like that one meme where you borrow money to buy a tank and then blast away at everyone trying to collect their money?

@8Milkpower8

I see your point.

Here the assassins are skilled at getting into secure places, regardless of defence and army size. Keep in mind that if you run out of wealth, you get a loan- and only if you run out of that will the assassins come for you. If the assassins weren’t as skilled, the imperial bank would never have given out such large loans to begin with, without suitable ‘debt collectors.’

If your city ascends, even these assassins will not be able to reach you.

I’ll make a note of this, though, and, when I give everything another pass, will see how easily something like this will slip into the code if it seems a good fit.

Thanks for the interesting idea!

Cheers.

Clearly the solution is to hire more assassins to deal with the bank’s assassins, using more loans to get the money if needed. There’s clearly no issue with this brillinat plan :V

@NumberedEntity you can be a god in multiple things be it food or conquests but do gods have the same power? or does each god have different kinds of power? like low level god medium high supreme etc.

Haha!

It is not so much the number of assassins but how much you can pay the elite of all assassins! And the imperial bank can pay much, much more!

Still, a good plan. I can see you have the cunning of a very cunning orc.

Good question. Not all gods are the same. Much of their power depends on how long they have been worshipped and the number and piety of their worshippers.

If your orc ascends, he will be a minor deity in the grand scheme of things. But, in the grand scheme of things, a minor god can still dominate a single world.

Generally (though you might change this with your shaman’s action), orc gods have very little appeal to non-orcs, whereas the imperial god, The Mother, may well attract some worshippers from other races.

I would say the highest rank you can attain in the game is to become the planet-diety of the game world. Your new orc god’s legacy in the battle of Time, Space and the cosmos is another story…

Yes, absolutely correct!

UPDATE FULL BETA TEST v0.9, (27th March 2024):55k words added, totalling 1.54 million
-Play the final act of your orc’s life into old age.
- ‘Adopt’ a pup and help to influence and raise him into, perhaps, becoming a chief.
-Keep track of your pup’s development on the stats screen.
-Contact old acquaintances, if they still live, to shape your pup.
-Spend your loot improving the tribe or influencing the current chief’s entourage.
-Decide on how you meet your fate, in exile, as a chief maker or idling away your years.
-Receive a final judgement on your orc’s life.
-Added a tester option to jump straight into old age, using a pre-made orc.
-Expanded the ending screen for Big Bellies who complete their path.
-Added a cheat mode which, in the finished game, you will have to track down. However, for testing purposes, you can find it on the stats screen at any point, except for old age. -Old orcs lose the blessing of the Crone of Fate and cannot cheat, for narrative and game balance.

If you haven’t become a Big Belly, Shaman or chief, now is the time to forge the end of your orc’s story. No longer full of vigour, you face a more sedentary existence, beset by the ravages of time- but, your influence can still affect the future.

FUTURE PLANS

The game is now complete. I now will go through everything again and try to catch the typos and fix and bugs I encounter. Some unused events will be taken out. I will probably add flavour to existing events and perhaps make a few additions from my pile of notes collected from the suggestions players have made on this forum.

Please note, I will not be looking to make extensive additions but to polish off what is there. This is now my priority. As I have mentioned before, I may look into adding dlc, or updates, once the game is released and if there is a high enough demand.

I think I have been saying we are nearing the end for the last 6 months, but we really are now. I want to thank everyone who has played my game and given me help and support, through encouragement, praise and constructive criticisms. You have all helped to make this adventure of mine a pleasure to create.

For those who wish to continue helping to fine tune this game, the biggest help will be to find typos. It is a large game and my typing agility skill is barely %20- though speed I can do, sometimes.

I plan to add a credits page where those who have helped, particularly with editing, will be credited- if you don’t wish for this, just say. I do believe that people giving of their time to help others should, in the very least, be acknowledged.

(I hope this update is smoother than the last few, the old age section is less complex than the shaman-city path by a mile.)

Krog’s blessings to you all!

@mra4432

Thanks mra,

I’ve tried my best to make a fun and, at times, epic adventure for the much-maligned orcs. Now they can take their place alongside all the elves, dwarfs, halflings, humans and various others.

@musawir
Hi musawir,

Welcome to the forcrum! To be clear, here a pup refers to a toddler orc. Once you start your old orc’s journey, pick the option to idle away your ‘retirement’ and you’ll get to choose a young orc to take charge of.

After this, other options appear allowing you to influence your pup. Also, when you next choose to idle away your time, everything you do will reflect upon your new protege.

Like if your emperor can you still do this?

Not as an emperor- such a thing would be seen as beneath him, though you do help to prepare the royal crop from where your successor will spawn.

As an old orc, Slappa, the chief, sees it fitting to give a task to the useless ancient gits. He demands that all of the old orcs help with raising the new crop- not as a gesture of respect, but contempt. Though, he might live to regret the decision.

The emperor orc already has enough on his plate. I feel this adds a narrative to the old orc chain of events and helps to differentiate the experience from other sections. And this allows a more dramatic ending than just withering away in your cups, puffing your pipes of gunkweed.

You have any plan that like we can choice our race and also it be a without end?

Hi musawir,

I have dedicated this game to fleshing out orcs, so I can hone in on the experience and the player can get a relatively different experience from the more common fantasy-fare, focusing on the more ‘human’ races. In future, though not the next project, I might try to do the same thing, but for another of the archetype fantasy races.

The tone of the game is orcish, written in a style, mostly, to cater to orchisness. To have the same depth for every race in the same game would mean a project of such size and complexity that it would take years to build and would probably never be finished due to burnout.

But it would be cool to have a separate game for elves, dwarves, halfling, even goblins (perhaps others like demons). Humans are very well catered for in medieval style fantasy settings.

I have been asked before about an endless mode. I understand the appeal- if I was a player, I would like this too. However, the game, at some point, would cease to function probably. The events are not unlimited.

BUT, in the released game I will still include the secret cheat menu (though it must be found first), where a player can adjust their stats to allow to freely explore content without as much fear of failure.

Right now, I have included the cheat option in the game stats screen for testers and players, to use at all times- except for old age orcs. Here, making your aging, withering orc massively powerful would ruin the narrative of the game.

I hope you enjoy what we have before us as it is. I feel there is plenty to do to fill up your time. I have made this game with the intention of promoting multiple play throughs as you cannot see everything in a single orc life, or even two single orc lives.
