Yea I finished it thru the crusade path pretty good and by the time that selection came up I had around 70 in law and religion if not it was 69 or 68
I had done all the Krog building decisions and had all the creation options and I chose them all and it was always “it seems krog is displeased”

Spoiler

Summary

Also in your opinion would krog like or dislike an cyclops named krogs lost eye or the left or right eye of krog
i thought it was pretty funny when i thought of it I

Will take another look at it, seems it is misfiring.

Haaha, love it. If the cyclopes is a powerful beast, I think he’d have a chuckle!

I think I made the code too complicated. If you keep up to date with his projects, in good time, then he should generally be pleased. yet, certain things do allow traces of demonism into your city, which can also displease Krog. He does give your shaman leeway, considering you are his Chosen.

Yes, Krog is never neutral. He hates stuff or loves stuff. And the stuff he’s ambivalent about, he hates.

I’ll update it soon and then we can see if that description works better.

Alright and I did build the krog projects as soon as they where Available

IMPORTANT- As of update 12.1, old saves will cause errors and unpredictability. It is highly recommended that you make a new save. There is a ‘tester’ start option to jump straight to the new content.

UPDATE 12.1- (just a quick one)
-Now with DARK MODE and the ability to adjust text size.
-Remade the ‘city check’ system, which assesses whether Krog is pleased with your progress, or not.
-Slightly edited some stats to give you less bonus loot when you acquire the city and made some of the earlier challenges less punishing.
-You can now name the city yourself, just choose the option on the city menu.

My game breaks when i try to load a save, the screen just gets stuck. Is that on my end?

@Yournytemare14

It can depend on how old the save is. I have changed, and added, lots of stats. If some of these have changed type (from a number to a string or Boolean) then this will break the save.

I cannot ensure old saves will work, Usually they do, if the update hasn’t messed with older code, but may still result in some unpredictability.

I have given a testing option to jump an orc straight into the shaman and city scenes. Saves made, if you start a new game, should work just fine.

EDIT: I can save and load using DashingDon. This is just with saves since the updates, though.

Oh no i was talking about new saves, let me try again and update

Edit: seems like the saving system is just slow. I have to wait 30ish seconds before it actually loads the save

@Yournytemare14

Hi Yournytemare14

I’m nor sure why it takes so long. It could be to do with the speed of your connection and if you’re playing on a phone /laptop/desktop or something. The DashingDon site itself might be dealing with problems too. Sometimes it has been slow to roll out updates when I needed to make changes.

Hmm… For a text game, this game is large, which might add to the issue. It could speed up again tomorrow if it is to do with issues of connection speed or site issues. It does seem fine from my end.

Nonetheless, I hope it doesn’t stop you from playing and enjoying the game and update.

Cheers!

EDIT: I have little control over the saves on DashingDon. I’m glad they are there but apart from activating them and setting a number of slots, it is out of my hands. Very useful for testing purposes but subject to the whims of tech ghosts.

EDITEDIT: Try again when you can, someone on another site (intfiction.org) gave a similar error and I reuploaded the stat files. It might work better now:) The delay might have been the game searching for a variable which I added- but when I updated I uploaded the scene files but forgot the stats files.
FIXED now.

the Green Journey is probably my favorite WIP from about the 15 I played. I loved how the world slowly started to come together once you started adventuring. I adored the lore of the orcs and Korg (next run Korg will die.) But most importantly i was entranced by how ruthless and savage your orc could be, I enjoyed slaughtering the Elves with the help of the dark Elves. My first playthrough as the orc leader hands down was perfect.
My only wish was for more interactions between other orcs and other nations. Thank you NumberedEntity for this creative and talented WIP

Hi Telly,

Love to hear that you relished being a great big green git! I really did try to keep the tone consistent, hoping the player would throw off the human shackles of thinking! (Or maybe the shackles of just ‘thinking’).

Once I have wrapped everything up, I do plan to release this games on Hosted Games. If there is interest, I may come back to it at a later date and add some DLC, maybe expanding some of the interactions and such. For now, I am adding an old orc section for the wanderers who didn’t become chiefs and shamans.

Hail the Green Emperor Telly and thanks for dropping by with your comments, really made my day!

EDIT UPDATE:
Everyone,

Some typos and potential bugs for the shaman path. I decided to do a fresh run, rather than using the tester orc to see if there were any issues with a fresh character. This is cut a little short because I “failed” again and because of a save error (see below) I wasn’t able to continue the playthrough.

Summary

One note I will make is that checking the stats of your city, which you need to do to ensure you don’t accidentally go bankrupt, is rather tedious. You have to go to the stats screen, scroll all the way down (and it is a large stats screen so there is a lot of scrolling) then click on the city stats option. It would be good if there was an option in the main city menu that took you directly to the city stats page.

So, I failed again and, once more, I’m not sure why? This time my stats were all high, my population was booming. It happened right after I elevated a minor deity to Krog’s side and the text seems to indicate it is a faith/piety issue, but both the faith of the city and my personal piety were both reasonably strong.

image

EDIT: I’m guessing it’s because I fell behind on Krog’s plan? This is another one I have issues with in the shaman path. With how many different menus there are, and how many different options there are in each menu it can be VERY difficult to find the option that Krog wants you to do. I think it should either be:

a) It’s own option at the very top of the city menu by itself every time it is available.
or
b) Bolded/highlighted in some way to make it stand out from other options in the menus.

My personal preference is for option A because even if the Krog’s plan option is highlighted, if you happen to not go into the menu for that option on a round you could miss it entirely.

After this I “gave into temptation” and got the Damnation ending, but when I chose to reload my save it reloaded all the way back at the Dust Clan, without the shaman option, just the Morgorc or adventuring options.

Orcs mature quickly, as least physically if not mentally. Soon you will reach the fourth year since your crop’s blooming and, as such, you must be named to take your place in the tribe.

Question, why is it a problem that the game is too large? Or does it make the game broken? Because I think this game has the most freedom out of all choiceofgames text based game ever made.

Decided to do some code diving instead of a normal playthrough. Note that some of these are not necessarily mistakes, but questions I have about your choices made when coding, and given coding isn’t my strongest skill set, I may be completely misinterpreting some things.

I do need a style guide ruling that keeps confusing me personally. For guilds, is it (for example) Fighter’s Guild, or Fighters Guild? For instance you use Assassin’s Guild, but Engineers Guild.

Also, you have some of the wildest variable names I have EVER seen. How the hell are you not constantly misspelling things like kroggobgodgonenook???

Summary

So having very high personal loot (90k and above) adds a lot of wealth to the city, that I understand. Then a moderate amount of wealth is added for moderate amounts of loot, but why does it jump back up if you have almost no loot? Less than 10k loot adds 5 to city wealth?

Also, if all of the middle loot amounts give the same wealth bonus, why not simply make it

*if (loot >=10000) and (loot <90000)
*set wealth %+ 2

and save yourself a dozen lines of code? The same issues comes up when looking at defence and the size of your horde and faith and your piety, but in those instances:

You don’t have the values bracketed into less than AND more than, so from what I can tell, someone with a horde of 95 will get a total bonus of +8, one from each of the checks.

Personally I feel embassy connections would be better suited to increasing wealth, not faith. How is a connection to a foreign embassy increasing the faith of a notably insular people like the orcs?

After all, this is the nature of city la ifestyle, far removed from semi-nomadic tribal society and currently struggling for resources.

While I don’t want to speak for Numbered, having seen the code for the game, the larger the game the vastly more spaghettified the code becomes, making it harder and harder to bug test and keep variables straight. The sheer number of variables in this game is frankly astounding.

@Lance

Hi Lance, massively help here. SO many typos to fix. Hope I got them all! Phew!

UPDATES:
-I have made it so that if you get to the stage where you make a new god, you will not fail for being delayed with Krog’s plans, you have gone quite far enough at that point to please him.
- For the options needed to fulfil Krog’s plan, I have moved them to the top of the appropriate menus (research and build menus), surrounding ‘Fulfil Krog’s Plan’ in italics and bold. (Easiest way to do it and I think it will work well if the options are always the first, if available.)
-Loads of typos fixed,

EDIT- I have added stat bars expressing the values of your city at the top of the city interaction menu so players no longer have to keep clicking back to the stats screen.

As to your notes of the code, in those instances the code works accumulatively, since I don’t leave it with a *goto command. If you have 80000 bits of loot, you will get that bonus and all the bonuses underneath too. The lowest stat gives a larger bonus since, if you are that poor at that stage, you will get a larger boost for the sake of balance. Everyone will get the lowest bonus.

With the embassy bonus, my reasoning was that, since you have international connections, this will stir the admiration of your citizens. But I agree, I will add a wealth bonus too.

Stellar editing, you caught so much! This will really improve the reader’s experience. I will get around to checking mall the guild references. It confuses me. I think it is correct to not have the apostrophe, so Fighters Guild and not Fighter’s Guild.

Big big thanks my friend!

@Door_kiczx

Hi Door Kickzx,

Lance explained it well. The larger the game, the more I feel like it is slipping away from my abilities. I am not a coder and my code is anything but elegant. Also, I worry about how much space the game will take up on devices (not computers, but mobile devices), as one of the appeals of text games is that they are smaller applications which players can download many. Thirdly, I need to set boundaries so the game gets complete.

Comments like yours, expressing the freedom of the game, really make me happy as that is what I wanted to accomplish. Of course, to be truly free I would have to add more but there has to be a limit. Although I am prepared, at a later date, to perhaps expand the game after release if the demand is there.

To be honest, I now live in fear that I will add something which will break everything (might sound silly). If my mind wasn’t such a chaotic place, I would be able to keep a grasp of things better. But things are becoming knots and riddles. I love what I have created and really appreciate that some seem to really enjoy the world and I will try to make what I have the best it can be.

Thanks for playing my game, the support really keeps me going!

I am running out of ideas as most of your orc paths are complete. Arena Fighter, Shaman, Chieftain, Adventurer, Raid Boss, Odd Jobs… All that is left is the original City Path different from the Shaman City Path. MC’s Orc Bestie (Hey! That rhymes) is still more of an NPC than a side character (Meaning the bestie is still less involved with MC’s adventures), From what I can see, there are some Odd Jobs like Blacksmithing, a Quantity vs Quality Dilemma Job, I want this job to have a long-term effect in either a benefit or a hazard like better combat stats as allies or harder success outcomes as enemies. If you have any more Orc Paths you plan to add, let me know, I will analyze for good ideas for your planned paths

Hi Patrick!

Yes, bestie is not overly involved here. I do have it in my notes to add more of him when I go back through the game.

As for now, I decided that the shaman path is THE city path. Otherwise, I fear the city sections would merely be repeated words with only mildly different outcomes and thus be redundant.

I have a smaller old age section to work through. Then it is going back through the game, sorting out bugs and typos- taking out things and, importantly, adding some things which players have suggested.

As always, you’re suggestions are very valuable. I will take a look at increasing the impact of blacksmithing.

Cheers Patricks

In fact, can you check all the Orc Odd Jobs you made for the MC. I feel like that there should be long-term impact and consequences in the future depending on the choices and performance of the Odd Jobs. There might be some Odd Jobs that might have long-term impact in future gameplay
