A Mage Reborn, Book Two (WIP) - UPDATED April 5th, 2025 | Book One Released!

Well, the genocide happened to the Arcadians already. And I think taking revenge on a nation that wronged you by destroying it isn’t really called “genocide”. The term “massacre” will be more accurate.

There are games here where you can kill children how is this worse

No, it’s a genocide. All attempts to wipe out a population are genocide, no matter what reason given. It would, in the case of the Arcadians, be a “genocide of the sub-altern”, but that is still a genocide.
And, since I think I need to say it again…
GENOCIDE IS NEVER EXCUSABLE, IT IS NEVER OK, THERE IS NEVER A REASON TO DO IT.
Any attempt to excuse genocide excuses all genocide. Genocide is one of those things where there can be no leniency. It is always evil.

In regards to whether or not CoG will allow depictions of it, the only time I know of, albeit, I haven’t played all games, is Chronicon Apocalyptica’s depiction of the St. Brice’s Day Massacre in England, wherein England ordered the purging of all Danes in their country in response to Danish raiding ravaging their country.
As far as I know, our choices are limited to stopping it, or allowing it to happen, but we don’t participate, and either way, the game very explicitly depict it as an evil act, and planned and ordered by an evil fae masquerading as King Æthelred II.

Because genocide involves murdering many, many, many children? And others? And is something many groups in the world are traumatized by? And something some groups in the world are literally undergoing right now? And many other groups are at risk of? Like, they aren’t even comparable…

Not worse objectively in terms of design, but worse for branding because of controversy.

Can we, you know, drop this?

As someone whose grandparents and great grandparents who were survivors of both genocides and massacres, I know very well the difference between the two. All genocides are massacres, but not all massacres are genocides.

All genocides are racially motivated, but not all massacres are. And I never attempted to excuse either one. Neither is OK. Period.

Anyway, I don’t wish to talk more on sensitive subjects like these here. They never end well. Not to mention these subjects cause me no small amount of pains.

Let’s keep fiction in fiction.

I personally wouldn’t curse the generations since only Ante is to blame for a good amount of bs MC experienced. But in my headcanon the MC was looking at Leon while burning. Because where else to look if not at the person who betrayed his comrade and lover and just fucked up royally in general (pun intended)

Fortunately, we’re not strictly limited to one murder.

I, for one, am willing to forgive all wrongdoings as long as my MC is allowed to destroy the tacky statue Leon ordered be built in honor of them.

Burn it, just like they did with us.

I don’t know about y’all MCs but mine is skipping all that pyrophobia thing to become an arsonist. Something like “I’ve been there I ain’t afraid of it anymore. I am fire I am death” thing.

Starting to think “firebrand” is the most fitting code name. Still might go with Fool though.

Nah they dont care as long as it’s not incest or rape, in war for the west you had an option to ruthlessly pillage whole kingdom and in forgotten one you can butcher thousands of soldiers

I like to codename the PC after the Pyre they were burnt on. It just feels right, like The Mage was brought back but they’re significantly more malevolent and bitter about the fact their best friend burned them alive (especially since I usually choose “that’s not who I am anymore” when vision Mage asks.)
Like, I don’t think The Mage would care as much if it was a painless or quick execution but Leon burned them alive and made them choke on the smoke after promising them that they’d always have their back. Y’know?

Yes.

Also yes.

Also to everyone who corrected me, thanks for that. I don’t always remember things right.

Almost went for Firebrand, but Calamity is just too good and I love Zelda too much NOT to pick that one.

I chose “Phoenix” as my MC’s codename. It’s obvious; coming back to life after being burnt to ashes.

I went with Dragon.

What does a dragon breathe? Fire.
What’s the most terrifying and powerful mythology creature? A dragon. Also very sure there was a choice that you could get a dragon mask which leads to someone saying the person who was wearing it would have to wear something else. Plus as the one with the most pure Mateus bloodline, Dragon was the most obvious one for me.

I considered something with a fire motif, but that felt too blatant for my taste

Mine is just CROW. It’s pretty fitting, to be honest.

Especially with an MC that hold grudges.

I stuck with Fool, but I might reconsider.
(Incoming essay) My mage would give the shirt off their back for those in need, and nearly died of mana exhaustion numerous times for others; but that kindness only ended up costing him everything. Once he came back, he cast off the man he was; with a new chance at life he never wanted, he’s going to be selfish, no more reservations about killing others, no more sacrificing for strangers, the only things that matter are protecting his friends, and getting rid of those who threaten them. If his kindness cost him everything, then being kind is foolish, and a Fool he once was.
