Some time ago, I googled something like non-AI character art generator, and came across DollDivine.
Well, DollDivine is basically a bunch of dress up games. However, the FAQ states that you are permitted to use any artistic outputs for both commercial* and non-commercial use. All you need to do is credit the game (see FAQ) which you used.
I am thinking that this could be a fairly simple and free way to generate character portraits and art for choicescript games. That said, the image resolution for one of the games was 928x1200, which may not be sufficient for standard HG art assets, unless you have the knowhow to expand the image and edit out the pixelation. Still, it could also be used for ingame character portraits.
It might be a little tacky to use a dress up game to create art… but nobody expects fantastic art in HG anyway.
If it looks good, might as well right?
