Quick clarification! When you say some ROs are ‘semi-locked’ to certain archetypes, does that mean we can still romance any RO regardless of archetype but some paths will just be harder… or are certain ROs completely locked off depending on the archetype we pick?

Thanks  now my mind is at ease

Good question  I don’t want anything locked but I think it’s natural there is a strong relationship starter based on your character type that would make it very hard but not impossible to romance the ones against your character type. I think this would involve managing to subvert their expectations or having the option to change who you are / the path you’re on if you’re particularly interested in them?

Nothing set in stone for that, open to suggestions!

Thanks for explaining! I asked because I really like clashing personalities in romances. I’d actually want to try subverting expectations — like playing a Star who looks flashy at first but slowly reveals they’re not arrogant or shallow. That kind of tension and surprise is my favorite dynamic.

It could be cool if the game allowed characters to have strong first impressions based on your archetype, but also gave you opportunities to break their assumptions in key scenes. It makes the romance feel earned, especially when the MC goes against type in meaningful moments.

A few ideas that might fit your system well:
‘Reveal Moments’ – key choices where the MC acts against their stereotype (e.g., a Star choosing humility, or a Professional showing unexpected flair) that shift how an RO sees them.
‘Archetype Challenges’ – scenes where an RO directly questions your behavior, giving you the chance to confirm the stereotype or quietly contradict it.
‘Soft-Lock Breakers’ – for romance paths that are harder due to archetype, special scenes or dialogue that can open the door if you’ve shown consistent depth.
‘Hidden Depth Flags’ – small choices (helping teammates, apologizing, being vulnerable) that gradually change an RO’s attitude over time.

And maybe even an optional system where the game shows the difference between how the MC is perceived outwardly vs. how they actually think or feel inwardly — which could add another layer to breaking stereotypes.

Nothing too heavy — just little narrative beats that let the MC surprise people and reshape relationships based on their true personality. But whatever you do, I’m sure I’ll enjoy it; the system you’ve built already sounds really satisfying to me

This is really excellent and plenty to think about, thanks so much for the detailed feedback and thoughts I really like it.

I was actually thinking of changing up the stats for an internal/external character. Like you turn up at the academy and want to show you’re super confident to fit in and whatnot, but actually inside you’re a bag of nerves. I think having this split in the character type could lead to much more nuance and depth. Like the RO doesn’t like your type, but inside you aren’t really that so it gives you opportunity to show them the real you, which could make that romance feel even more depth and connection, like they become the only person that actually knows the real you.

Love it, love stuff like this it gets me all excited again to keep pushing on! Really appreciate that!

I played the game and it really has a promising future but I hope it makes MC more confident.

Thanks for reading and thanks for the feedback!

I think I’ve fallen into the trap of creating the MC in my own image! I will address this, and think I will adjust sections based on the players choices that they will be more confident if they are the game/star path player type! Thanks!

Loving the early chapters, I feel like sports as a genre is very bare-bones in COG and this has so much potential. I feel like you’ve made the MC really likeable and I like how they interact with the other characters. One thing I thought of as a suggestion when I was playing (I went to Man U for context) When the MC meets the Star RW in the academy I feel like it could be a bigger moment, it might be more impactful if you name the rw and then throw in a line about how good they are or something just to properly sell how big of a moment it is for the MC. Good luck and can’t wait for the next update

Thanks so much, I really appreciate it!

I am happy to take a look at that scene again and see how I can make it have more impact, I think you make a fair point there

I’ll have to look into whether I can use real names or not, I suspect they may be copyright which is why I wanted to keep vague but I’ll check. Thanks again

Don’t Mention it! TBH I don’t think it even needs to be a real player name for it to be effective. Just giving the star a random name will make him seem more real

I can go with that, the only reason I didn’t is if it took players out of the moment, that maybe they could fill their own blanks in but if I explicitly named a player they would go “who!?”, I’m not sure but I’ll think about it

I think his suggestion is a good one.I think his suggestion is good. It doesn’t necessarily have to be Bruno Fernandes in the case of Manchester United. It could be a fictional star.

It would be very difficult for you.It would be very difficult for you to work with the stars from all 92 teams.

At least I think so, who knows?

But that would be cool.

Enter the dining hall and find Salah.Entering the cafeteria and finding Salah there… That would be great.

I apologize for the errors. I’m using Google Translate to translate the text into English, and it’s duplicating the text.

Honestly, I feel you don’t need to use current players’ names to make the story work. You might need to create some background context before the MC meets the ‘superstar’, so it is easier for the player to relate. I would steal from the Blue Lock playbook: name a ‘superstar’ player, model him on a real one, and give him the original attributes and appearance.

I can probably work the player in after the favourite team is chosen and that they are one of your favourite players so it has more impact when you see them  thanks!
