For some reason the option to go to the corner still leads to the house. I played from the start, so it shouldn’t be an old save bug.
Apologies, that should be fixed now! I knew I’d forget to change some of those goto’s!
As just a follow up, @Anarore_Kriptih , is the game taking you to the proper scene now?
Would also love to ask people’s opinions; did the second option on the train transition nicely for you? Did you feel like it fit in properly after the forst convo and before the case discussion?
Also, now that people have (hopefully) gotten a more in depth description of some of the medical terminology in the game with the coroner scene, do people feel like an appendix of terms and definitions in the options menu would be beneficial to your understanding for what’s being discussed in the game?
Just want to make sure I’m covering all my bases here.
How can we find the password for the laptop?
The password for the laptop is among the many clues you can find in the different rooms within the house. The clue I left on the laptop itself was the green highlighter color. If you’d like further clues or the answer, feel free to shoot me a message!
Indentation errors are the worst But congrats on the update!
Hey there, first if all I really like the game, I’m a huge fan of this detective-ish like games. But since last update there is an error when I writte the password (something in line 16 I think, I don’t have a great memory), and it doesn’t let me continue with the game and I’m not sure if this is just because you cut out the last scenes or something else.
Darn, that’s still not fixed? I thought I fixed that last week, but I will take another look at it now! Apologies for this, usually I’m able to bug test chapters to make them squeaky clean, but I couldn’t do that with this one because it endlessly looped since there are nearly endless possibilities that could be typed into the text box, so the CSIDE testing doesn’t know what to do with it.
BUG WITH TEXT BOX’S AND SAVE FILES
Okay, so this is something I noticed while manually testing things just now, but I figured I’d put it out here just in case people run into it so that I can reference it in any future bug reports.
If you load a save file from a previous point in the game while doing the text box investigations, dashingdon will still act as if you’ve investigated those things in the house - presumably no matter how far back you’ve reloaded to. Unfortunately, I cannot fix this bug as this is more to do with dashingdon’s save function than it is my game since ChoiceScript games are not meant to have a save function in the first place and so loading a “saved game” most likely doesn’t reset the variables that have been turned on from the future scene you reloaded from.
So what does this mean? Well, it just means when you get back up to that point in the game again, it will take you to the dialogue that says you’ve already investigated the item. That’s… pretty much it. If you wish to start the investigation anew, you unfortunately have to make a new save, I believe. I am very sorry for this, and I would fix it if I could. I’ll brainstorm and try to come up with something!
But, o the brightside, I’ve manually tested it and you can now progress past the password segment. Moral of the story? “=” signs are evil.
Can we still talk to one lol.
Y’know, I thought about implementing that, but I didn’t know if anyone would choose to only talk to one of the team instead of two if given the option to talk to two. But, I don’t think it’s that difficult of a change to implement into the game, so I should be able to push that out when I update the game next.
If I can ask, given the option to talk to two of the NPC’s rather than just one, what is the primary reason you would choose to stick with one? Asking this will help me determine the best way to implement the option. Also, at least for the demo, this option wouldn’t give any extra dialogue for that single MCT member, just as a heads up.
Happy cake day, btw!
I guess mainly because I just focus on one character in my playthrough and kinda indifferent to the others. Not to say I don’t care, I just get tunnel vision on one character and don’t worry about the others until another playthrough where I focus on them. I love your characters, I’m just weird idk lol. Also when I think about replaying the game, having to do two conversations to get to the next part would get a little annoying.
Thank you!
I play my MC as skittish and standoffish. She didn’t want to be there, S’s reaction to her didn’t help, neither did the security guy at the train assuming she was one of C’s floozies instead of an agent. I’d like an option to keep to myself/talk to no one, honestly.
If there were an option like that, and there was a shorter scene where one of the agents came over to check up on the MC during the train ride briefly, would that fall in line with the type of varied choice you’d want for an option where you choose to hang out with no one? If I left it as just the MC sitting by themselves the entire time, the player would pretty much be missing out on an entire scene, which I don’t think anyone wants.
That would be okay, yes. Later plot informs this as well what with the remembered conflict with MC’s brother during childhood. The anger seen from S, particularly if you play a character with PTSD, could potentially be very triggering even to the most stoic of personalities. That childhood incident could potentially make a person bad with interpersonal violence of any kind, as noted in the choices after inspecting the alley. So someone checking in, particularly someone not likely to arouse those fears, would be fine. It’d have to be C, A or K; given that MC hasn’t seen A have his little moment of aggression yet.
I really appreciate the convertion from F° to C°, but it’s not “natural” when the characters do it. (reading the sentence, I was holding my breath to reach the end)
Maybe
- Lighten with a joke about F° vs C° (I wonder what kind S. would tell), to explain why the characters have to convert ?
- Add an option at the ID formular ?
but how to justify that the characters know the MC preference ?
Maybe a private joke on MC later from the team members about how “nerdy” they are ?
Anyway, so many thanks for your IF, it’s one of the best !
Could anybody in the know please shoot me a message with the laptop password? I’m dumb as hell lol.
I gotcha covered!
Ugh, I am literally in love with this story! The amount of character detail and the depth of relationships both with and around your MC is so immersing to read. And I loved how different your character can be depending on every choice you make. Like, when I tell you that I fell in love with making my own little fiery flirter who made people blush, I mean it! How fun. They literally meshed so well with Carter and it was hilarious watching everybody feel like a third-wheel, lmao.
Also, a single parent RO, in this climate?!? astounding. Never mind being buff and flirty too.
Still, even without the relationships, I really enjoyed coming into a story where the group has recently suffered and has created a lot of friction before joining it (without spoiling anything). I haven’t seen anything like this before from memory, and it really highlights grief and loss, and I liked how some people couldn’t connect with your character no matter how hard you tried in the beginning because they’re going through their own pain.
I can’t wait to see where this all goes, and I really liked having to look around for the clues in the most recent chapter. Especially since it’s not timed by anything, which will make it a lot easier when it becomes published and saves aren’t available.
Overall this was just an incredible piece of work that I couldn’t put down! And thank you for sending me the password too, it gave me so much extra content to see my MC react to. Best of luck for your future writings!
Can someone message me the laptop code? I remember figuring it out a while ago, but I can’t remember how I figured it out.
