What authors or works are currently inspiring your writing?

Lately, I’ve been trying to get inspired by a combination of writing from Mercedes Lackey (specifically her Obsidian Trilogy and Valdemar serieses) and David Eddings. They are both pretty darned good at writing interesting characters and dialog, so I’m hoping it’ll help me create distinctive characters for my own writing.

I really loved Eddings early work. He was a fun one when I was a kid. I was pleasantly surprised when I reread the Belgared series as an adult, it held up. You’re right. He was really good st writing dialog. I was sad to hear he passed a few years ago.

Eddings is amazing at dialog. I particularly enjoy his Elenium.

He’s not so great at representing racial differences as anything but a series of stereotypes, though. Understandable, but definitely an example of something to avoid there.
