Walls of Natrun [158k words] [Updated July 31st]

Of course, you see much more into the details, my point is that the path where this is developing is really cool.

I really enjoyed Saturnine (already wishlisted), and when I saw you making another if AND in the same universe, it honestly made my day.

I also wanted to ask If there could be an option to abolish slavery on some of the other routes?

I’m happy to have made your day. Mine has been pretty mediocre.

Sure. That’s basically one of the main motivations available to the player. Just don’t expect that option to come quickly or freely.

The ancient Chinese killed their Emperor for trying to abolish slavery twice, and the Sovereign has nowhere near that kind of authority. Full abolition is the kind of option I’ll only include in the endgame, and only for characters who cared to build up their political capital.

Is there going to be a way to track that?whether it’s through visible stats or narrative cues. Does the reputation of all the various social groups have to be at a certain point?

Tbh i would feel relations with the Nobles and priesthood are more important

I can’t tell you that because I’m not sure myself. I don’t have every single mechanical detail planned out, much less for every single path. All I’m saying is that major changes require power, and power requires sacrifices, be it personal ones or that of others.

I’m just stopping by to tell you that the demo is fucking brilliant and I have high hopes for your WIP.

I’m rushing to finish the next chapter before the end of July, but I cannot help thinking… is “Northpoint” a good name for the island’s secondary settlement? It is certainly descriptive, as are many other terms, but it clashes with how every other city inside Ganymede is named.

Worst thing is, I can’t even alter the map without Inkarnate’s premium subscription, so this whole dilemma is pointless. But it still slows me down, because that’s the kind of person I am.

Was it established at the same time as other cites on ganymede?

Nah, I imagine Northpoint as something Natrunians built when they ran out of space for ports in their own city. It’s definitely a name they could have picked, these are the guys responsible for “Lower City” and “Natrun Castle” and other such nomenclature. It just feels a little random.

I mean as you’ve said they are the people who made the lower city so you could just name it natrun 2 and I wouldn’t even bat an eye or little natrun or nurtan

This month, I’m trying something new. I updated the public version of the Walls of Natrun demo, but also released a significantly larger update for my paid supporters.

Free version adds the ability to recruit mercenaries (or paladins) to your cause before the war starts. It also expands the conversation with Perun, adds new city management options, enhances character customization based on your chosen gender and fixes various small issues.

Patreon version includes the entirety of Chapter Four, allowing the player to finally face the Jovian Republic and test out their new forces. This chapter will be made public next month but, until then, it will be exclusive to the HTML version of the story hosted on my private site.

Is that how professional authors do updates? I hope that’s how they do updates. My other game releases in a week, I should start acting like a serious writer.

I find it a little strange how in the beginning if we make an enemy of Cecil/Cecilia (if we let Kelpie go and justify it by saying the law is unjust), they say that perhaps supporting us was a mistake and they’ll be looking for opportunities to correct that - yet our MC has absolutely zero reaction to them saying this right in front of us (both in that moment and moving forward)? Us hearing that and then continuing to act like they’re one of our most loyal supporters personally feels rather dissonant character/story-wise

I’m not saying we should be able to immediately jail them or something, but maybe we could have some options in later interactions to be distrustful of them or something (and maybe have some inner narration showing that we’re wary of them?)?

There are a few anti-cecil options here and there, but I get your point. The narration should be more dependent on the player’s relationship with that character, I just never got around to doing that because there’s always something more important to fix or expand.

I might add some flavor to that dynamic next update. It’s looking to be pretty heavy on relationship stuff either way.

Lol, I love how this game suddenly “jumpscares” you with goofy and funny choices lol.

Although how come nobody cares when in the warplans chapter a noble is assasinated in the eyes of everyone and you even step over the noble’s body among others?

It’s my method of showing just how hilariously cutthroat Natrun’s political system is. Elector Counts getting assassinated in broad daylight is a biweekly occurrence in this nightmare of a city, because that’s clearly what the Mad King intended.

i must say that love how the story is advancing, don´t play the demo in a couple of months and was a pleasant surprise that we can go full mad king and make the horse our forength affair secretary, replace the city’s tap water with blood and made cheesecake a valid currency

some thing i fell the story doesn´t adress is that a uruk origin character is treateed like any other origin when you go to uruk, and when the death penalty is adres if my army is of slaves i can send the prisoners ther but the game ignore when i chose to make ghoul when asking if revoke, continue or make a harder deth penalty

Hopefully protagonists that actually want to improve things can fix such madness.

I mean, I added three special options for Urukian characters who choose to play that chapter. Given how specific this combination is, I doubt fleshing out this fairly rare scenario further would be worth the effort involved.

I’m not really sure what you mean there.

Fixing all the madness is a lofty goal, but it’s definitely possible to introduce some sanity to Natrun. Just take it one step at a time.

I don’t see but play like that once so maybe was that simple don’t chosse the options

Maybe i understand wrong but the ghoul is supposed to use criminals sentenced to death, yet the game tell in one moment that crime is raising and hanging is not deterring people (I assume that the process of gholification replaced the hanging)
