Ash the Rash
Is the poly route open yet?
Yes, I can say with the new chapter that the poly with Rin and Ash is just starting from what I can tell.
Also I found an translation error through Google since I got curious.
I’m playing as a male so Grandpa should be saying grandson in Russian in that case.
@bored92 No, vnuchok is correct
“vnuchok” is a gentle version of “vnuk”
“vnuchka” is a femine version
Thank you. I have no idea how to read or speak Russian so I’ll trust your translation
Great WIP, great content, keep it up!
Some more comments about the torture scene since some people are talking about it. My post will kinda add onto @AstinFamily and @Sheepsheep but here they are.
I do agree with Sheepsheep on this being a great moral delima that can further define the MC in their different routes (hero, vigilante, heir) as well as their flavor of personality. Some of these responses mostly are about the heir route but some talk about the other routes too.
Protector — An option of choosing to protect the guy and his family.
Like AstimFamily said, I think it some MC’s could offer protection to protect the guy and family in exchange for information. This choice can be because it’s a logical decision, or it can also lean into a more emotional moral reasoning as well like not wanting to hurt him anymore.
Perhaps this can depend on charisma or intelligence check? And maybe depending on whether they pass or not Uncle Luka or even the tortured guy can choose to deny MC’s offer.
As an extension of the protection aspect, perhaps MC can be responsible for them? Like maybe guy goes snitching then that punishment falls on both of them? Or how MC will be in charge of managing the protection of the guy and his family? I feel like this can play into all arcs, but it’d also be interesting if we can somehow convert this guy (or maybe his sister?? both?) into the working with the mafia or MC individually as well if we successfully choose to protect him.
View on Uncle Luka (and Jackal) — How do we view him after the torturing?
Tbh I didn’t even think of this until Sheepsheep brought it up but it is a good point. From my understanding, MC has had no experience witnessing torture or murder so this is a totally new sight for them, which is especially impactful since it’s from their Uncle Luka who basically raised MC. While MC knows their uncle is a mafia boss, there is a different in knowing and seeing it for themselves.
Will they look at Uncle Luka negatively after this? Positively? Are they scared of him now? Maybe for more heir types: does this bolster or hinder their view on Uncle Luka’s position in the mafia once they take over? Can they trust him with certain missions or not?
I think drawing their views on Jackal and his abilities would be interesting too. I feel like moral
hero types would find Jackal’s abilities to be downright horrifying and it’d be great if we can have that option to react and maybe that changes how MC acts around them further in the story.
Reactions — This man was apart of the plot of killing MC’s dad What do we think about him?
For the big reveal to be the guy who was the last alive out of the group that killed you father, the MC reactions isn’t all that focused on. Does MC view this person as a fellow murderer, or does MC think this guy just one tool in a box of many? Will they let emotions (anger or sadness or both) over take them or logic fuel them? Will he kill him upon first sight? Mercy? Or is death too merciful for someone who killed their dad?
I feel like MC’s thoughts and options can be changed or progresses through the questioning or if that’s too complicated to code, it can also just be a judgement call somewhere beginning or between the interrogation.
These are just my rough thoughts, and I may have some more that come along the line as I replay the game again. But honestly this is all wonderful work. I’m already deeply invested into this story and I can’t see where it comes along!
I just straight up skipped it. So while I personally don’t care for it you could just skip passed it like it, and people who are interested in that kinda thing can read it if the they wish.
The shovel talk was funny and I loved it Can we call Jackal Uncle Jack later? Since he didn’t like it when using his first name lol
Summary
Ash’s gender gets flipped after the torture scene:
“Ali… Are you okay?” you hear Ash asks you quietly, although he sounds as if he’s talking behind a layer of thick glass. You feel her warm hand rubbing your back gently and you crack an eye open to see her frowning in concern.
I don’t think I’ve finished even the first chapter yet, but I love it and felt like I had to say this, it’s so well written and has definitely roped me in rather quickly!
Edit: I’m on chapter 4, I love this IF and will definitely be buying it when it eventually comes out!
Edit squared: I just finished the demo and, everything about it is great, the ways you can use the shadows, the characters.
Originally I was going to be a Vigilante, since that’s almost always my go to, and I am still leaning that way, but with how much I loved interacting with Uncle Luka and Grandpa, I couldn’t get myself to not half commit to becoming the head of the family, which says a lot, because I’m usually somewhat stubborn XD
Point being, amazing game, can’t wait to see where it goes next!
@Sheepsheep Glad you like the update!
Huh, this is weird. I’ve seen another person reporting this but I haven’t been able to replicate this bug myself. But don’t worry too much about it because the strain got reset again by the end of the chapter. I’ll see more into it.
@Sheepsheep @ghosttoast Thank you so much for the suggestions! I like all of them and I can probably try adding them as best as I could, but just not now or in the near future updates. They’ll be quite a big addition and change, and I’d just like to keep moving on with the story for now
These options are good to accommodate wider variety of MCs, but ultimately, they won’t really change the story after it, so I can leave that for when I return to the chapter again or when I go back to the beginning and begin editing and fleshing out the chapters even more in the future. But rest assured, I’ve made sure to add all of these in my notes for future improvements.
@Cingulum_diaboli Yup, as @Nathan_Wolverton said, you can skip the whole conversation after asking two questions at least (you still gotta get to know him even only for a bit).
@Penguin_Dokutah Yeah, for me Jackal might not really play a big role like Luka is in the story so far, but he’s also not a really trivial character that you can ignore like Ivan, Boris, Sebastian, Claude, or Thomas.
Also, he might even play a more prominent role in the spin-off set in the future after this book later on
@Joao_Victor No worry about whether he’s going to break Luka’s heart beforehand? Actually based. Love it
@Jonard_Conejar Death is indeed Grandpa’s old friend–even though an unwelcome one as it takes away his loved ones one by one. Sometimes, he thinks whether it is karma for what he had done so far and whether it would leave him alone for last–a fate worse than death literally.
@OddCatGuy I’m glad you enjoy the torture scene
It is also my first time writing it, although I can see that it certainly won’t be the last, either in this story or in my other stories
@rkgk Ooh, another Santana romancer! They have really surged in popularity after Chapter 4! And to think I was worried that they’d be the most unpopular RO because they’re honestly the most normal out of the four ROs
According to my Tumblr anons, Santana is giving off the “babygirl” and “poor little meow meow” vibe that made them irresistible to pamper
Yeah, I’m so sorry about that. I’ll add a little warning before the scene next update and, as I said above, I’m planning to add the options for MC to try to obtain the information without having Luka torturing the guy, but it won’t probably come in the near future. But one thing I can do for next update is maybe I can make a skip button that will bring you right to the scene where the guy spills all the information in the end?
The information he spills at the end is regarding the owner of the bar; the real name and his supposed high-rank in the Cerberus before the whole organization fell apart and how he’s trying to help rebuild it. MC will talk about it with the ROs too in the next chapter
Ah, I’ll look into it; I think I have an idea of which part you’re talking about. Is it this part:
“Liar,” Jackal tuts before turning away and starts striding towards the exit of the office wing area. “Let’s not waste more time. Your poor ${ash_nephew} has been waiting there for quite some time now.”
You and your uncle follow close on his heels. “Wait, Ash? Where are we going exactly?” you ask.
If it is, and your Ash is male then, indeed, the nephew Jackal refers to is Ash because they’ve been waiting in the designated torture area for quite a while now
Ooh, and if you do doodle your MC or the ROs, please do and let me know. And if somehow, I haven’t reblogged it yet, please do send me a message on Tumblr. I promise I don’t mind at all
@GhostofGrief Okay, a long answer incoming because you got me talking about something I’m interested as well, so I hope you don’t mind When MC was little, that incident was mostly caused because they were highly distressed and they’ve never done something like that–or at least even close to that scale ever before. Their power kinda responded to their desperation and was amplified out of their control for a while, and after that, they were immediately hit like a bus by the side effect.
But indeed, this incident alone shows that MC was lucky enough to born with such a high natural capability in using their powers. Not all people with powers are born as such. For example, just a small percentage of haemokinetics like Jackal can even remotely control blood literally like he did. And not all pyrokinetics are even capable of creating flame, much less big burst ones like Ash did if MC got injured in Chapter 3 fight. The sad reality is, these less ‘gifted’ powered people can try their best to get on even footing with those born with the capabilities by practicing meticulously and with discipline, but one way or another, they’ll hit that ceiling where they can’t replicate the feats that the more gifted ones can do, no matter how many training they’ve done.
And, back to MC (sorry, got a little sidetracked there ), yeah, MC right now is way far more in control over their powers than they did ten years ago. Some might come naturally with age and growing up, but most are thanks to Luka (and occasionally Ash) training them. Viktor didn’t really do that when MC was small because he wanted MC to live a normal life (although, if he knew retroactively that he and MC were still in some kind of danger, he would have trained MC himself too). So, yeah, I’d say MC right now is pretty adept, especially in the power you have higher stat in. Of course, there are still more room for improvement for MC as they grow even older, especially in the power stamina (how long or how many times they can use their powers in a short period of time before they can’t).
Kinda like what Dr. Manhattan did to Rorschach in Watchmen? Yeah, I think MC might be able to do that. I don’t know which one is more horrible and painful, getting crushed and crumpled like a can or getting blown up like balloon
I think when MC increased the gravity like they did in Chapter 1 in the warehouse, those people affected are automatically suffocating too mainly because they can’t expand their lungs to breathe in. Not too sure about the crushing optic nerves though because that might be too… precise. There’s still a limit to how precise MC can manipulate the gravity, imo.
I haven’t really thought about the air bullets because I’ve always thought that is more of air or wind manipulation (aerokinesis) thing. But forcing movement around them to stop for a while is a thing that MC can do, although it might need a bit more concentration and of course, they can’t hold it for long right now
As for the good old fashion YEET into space That’s just so cartoony and I immediately think of Team Rocket getting blasted into the atmosphere whenever they lose in the Pokemon anime
@valianthts Aww, yeah, Ash has always been a really passionate and emotional person, so they tend to make decisions based on their feelings at the time without thinking more about the consequences beforehand They’re as fiery as the element they wield (also an opposite of the more cool-headed Rin). The only exception, of course, is regarding their own feelings for MC, and they suddenly become one of the most cautious people in the city
@Nathan_Wolverton Not yet but as @bored92 notices, I’ve begun sprinkling some flavour texts pointing in that direction if you have high romance point for both Ash and Rin. The poly route probably won’t be available right away because it was not planned from the beginning and I’ll need some more time to work it out smoothly into the story. And, I’d like to finish the first draft of the story with all the four planned individual routes first and build from there.
@dawn Oh my God, he’ll even be more annoyed by the ‘Uncle Jack’ nickname than if MC just calls him by his real name “You know what… I change my mind. Just call me by my first name than that . Never call me ‘Uncle Jack’ ever again,” he says with a shudder.
Thank you for reporting it! It has been fixed for next update!
@AdelSad Thank you for explaining it I guess some little intricacies like that are often missed by Google Translate. But yeah, the term was a suggestion given to me by a native Russian speaker and I’ve checked in twice with him as well regarding it.
I think it’s also the same thing for “моя умница”. Google Translate will say something like “good girl” or something. But it is used for all genders, as I’ve been told.
@ZaWorst Thank you! Glad you like it!
@LixehLyle Thank you so much for the kind words! And the fact that you love Uncle Luka and Grandpa so much that you and your MC are willing to consider becoming the head…
That’s so sweet. But know that Luka and Grandpa would support MC no matter what path they decide to choose for themself at the end–even if MC wants to become a superhero
Gravikineses is actually a pretty op power if mc can grow it a bit more e.g messing up moon’s orbit and causing it to crash on earth can prove to be a pretty good deterrent for morzov family to keep government facilities in check .
this is interesting game so decided to put it on watching,oh also in case you up to adding in new powers for the protagonist a awesome one would be able to control the weather from creating storms/hurricanes and casing lightning to strike down his enemies or creating a lightning shield around his body to protect him/her from gun shots oh also for when there in close combat maybe shoot lightning from his hand and channel the lightning through his body into his fist like you do with Qi kinda like thor or zeus ,as for the Qi example that be from martial arts.{p.s this is just a suggestion it up to you if you want to use my idea or not just thought i help you out with you game is all,i rarely get involved with hep out others unless i found out if something intrigues me}
Ooooooh, so it’s about Ash, might’ve misread that part, thanks for clearing that up!
Also no need to apologize for the torture scene. It’s definitely not your fault I’m this squeamish about things like that😆 though I appreciate you wanting to put a warning before stuff like that👍🏻
I haven’t drawn anything yet, I’ll tag you if I do!
I love this game! It’s so nice to read that everyone in the MC family loves and supports each other, no matter what.
Thank you author for your work!
Спасибо вам, автор, за ваш труд!
I love the fine details of your writing, I’m eagerly waiting to play an update of this wip. Keep up the great work!!!
I think I get a bug, my character already know that Investment in import car company is bad and want to tell uncle luka about that, but when I tell uncle luka, my character just tell uncle luka to help that company, in previous update I don’t think this bug is there
I think it varies; if you’re kind, you’ll say to help, and if you’re cruel, you’ll say to abandon them.
It’s actually how ruthless you are rather than how kind. Little odd imo.
