Twisted Scene (WIP), an 80s Liverpool Music Scene Story -- Chapter 5 and First Act of Chapter 6 Updated 08-26-25

@iris Really happy to see you so excited about the story! Hopefully it lives to the expectation!

@chrisbat @yoon1210 Many thanks for the heads up guys! I’ve tried my best to fix them, hopefully it works fine.

Although I do notice that the errors some of you have been getting so far are always related to whitespace. Can anyone who’s familiar with choicescript explain the whole concept of whitespace? Because considering that I’ve run like 2000 seeds on the randomtest at this point, and none of those seeds pointed out about an error related to ‘whitespace’, I can only assume that it’s something that randomtest doesn’t tend to pick up, though I could be wrong on that one.

It’s a computer term that refers to a type of characters that render as blank space. You may have some weird non-rendering Unicode char at the beginning of your line there.

Choosing a variation triggers all of them for some reason

I’m glad to see you back. I think I get an error. Chapter line 11188: The indentation on this line includes whitespace that is neither a space nor a tab. Delete the whitespace and replace it with spaces or tabs.

@Mewis AH, thanks for pointing out this one! I guess this happened because I forgot to make the alternative branch when the personality stats check related to these choices are equal instead of one personality more dominant than the other. I’ve added the alternative branch, so hopefully it is fixed by now.

@Thu_Truc_Tr_n Another whitespace error :smiling_face_with_tear:. Thanks for the heads up! and congratulations for your first post!

@LiliArch Is there a way to know when this happened? Because I doubt that randomtest is picking it up, or otherwise I wouldn’t have survived 2000 randomtests without encountering this particular error. Thanks for taking time explaining it to me!:slightly_smiling_face:

Fixed!

Open the file in a text editor that has a “show hidden symbols” setting (with that setting turned on… there is a reason I always have it turned on! Helps with indentation errors in general). I’m not sure if CSIDE has it, but Notepad++ does and is free.

This is one life changing information!

I’ve always typed in the default notepad, so I didn’t know better. Hope you have a great day, wherever you are. Much love!

Well, Notepad is decent, but I prefer seeing the line numbers and having control over encoding (saving as correct UTF-8 in Notepad is a hassle). Plus it freezes on large files.

Forgot to add: sometimes you get the weird whitespace characters when you accidentally hit some key combo, so it is good to be on lookout of those, but nothing to be ashamed of.

Is it supposed to go off the charts like that?

Not that I’m complaining, mind you. It’s on par with the scene. :upside_down_face:

For now? Yeah. Because I haven’t put the codes to limit the stats from exceeding the 100% mark. I’ll probably add it in the next update, which shouldn’t take more than a week from now. Thanks for checking out the story!

Another handy information for the future! Many thanks to you!

Is this the only result we can get at this point? Sometimes I have trouble determining if scenes are set or if I made some bad choices and it could have gone better.

Are there ways to increase affection with London yet? I was messing around and couldn’t seem to get them above 50 I think. They’re pretty friendly, just wondering if they’d become friendlierrrr, or maybe hit me with their cricket bat if it decreases?

When it comes to the debut performance of the new song, you can either get a really overwhelming response, a somewhat “good”/non-disastrous performance, or just downright underwhelming to the point where the crowd is losing interest. It really depends on how you used your time before headed to Fuel/Warehouse (this is for the upcoming other route), whether you chose to maximize it by rehearsing the hell out of the new song or saving the time to record a version for the demotape… it’s up to you. If you want to dedicate all the time available for the live performance, you can just ignore the demo tape recording, which means the demo will only have the first four songs instead of five.

In most cases, like the recording of the demos, you would be able to tell from seeing the reactions of others, if they seem to praise you to death and point no flaws whatsoever, that’s a sign that you’re doing as good as you can. There are also times where they’d praise, but give a bit of a thought like, “But I think you were…”, that means you’re doing good but not the best. If they just straight up pointing some flaws, that means you’re not doing great.

Well… you can’t, not yet. Because Most of the interactions with London haven’t been fleshed out yet, and some of them are on the other route as well. Once I get that done, then you can find ways to increase it.

Uhhh :expressionless_face: I guess I’ll have to replay the game.

I’ve found that mechanics of making music to be stressful and exciting at the same time. Stressful because I want my little band to achieve the best possible result, and exciting because I enjoy the player’s influence this big, and let’s be honest, it’s the only IF actually focused on music.

One more question…will we be able to achieve greater success than Paul’s band? Let him see what the band they despise so much can do… This character is extremely hard to like. My MC is a friendly person who wants everyone to finally make up, but damn, by the end of the demo I’m starting to think about giving up on Paul if he’ll continue to act like that.

Of course! It ultimately depends on the choices that you make along the way, some of them wouldn’t even be related to the music. They can both influence your own band’s success, and even P’s band.

i remember reading this a year ago (or maybe two? i honestly can’t remember haha) and i really enjoyed it back then. finally got the chance to catch up after the updates, and wow—it’s such a fun read so far! i really appreciate the “build-a-song” mechanics lol

i was just wondering about the romance routes with gia and paul—around when do they get “locked”?? and if the MC ends up liking both of them, will that turn into a big plot point? super curious to see how it plays out !!!

Glad that you appreciate that aspect of the story! It can get a bit complicated at times, in fact, it was one of the reasons why I sort of gave up with the story because the songwriting part on chapter 5 gave me such headache.

It would be later on, honestly. I would say just before what I consider the climax of the story.

It will! It will make things even more heated, that’s for sure.

Well, 2 years late, but I just scrolled up and speaking of ROs, especially Gia… When I first started the story back in 2023, I’d already planned for Gia to be somewhat of a reactive RO. What I mean by this, is that basically Gia is a rather interesting character in terms of circumstances surrounding him compared to the others, because he was brought up in an entirely different culture, which means that he would initially only be receptive towards female MCs, because that’s the only thing that he knows. The idea was to set his route in a way that will reward male MCs who decide to persevere on pursuing him, should they want to. If anything goes correctly, there would be some conditions that you can meet in order to unlock the guitarist’s heart, and opens him up to the idea of romancing male MCs.

The original plan was to let things unraveled by itself as the story went on, without me having to explain it. But because of the two years hiatus, I might as well explain it now.

Haha so weird question that’s probably been answered already, but why does selecting the name “Rita” give me the name “Sally”?
