Twine & Other Text-based Interactive Fiction games recommendations from Itch.io

Novels and movies are fine. It’s competing formats. So things like twine, VN’s, CYOA books. You can do one of those, or publish with HG. Not both.

Unfortunately length is often equated with quality, so very long games that if they were novels would have been edited right down by the publisher to get the pacing and storylines tighter, are seen as the way to go because that is what is most popular. There is little incentive to edit down games.

Can I suggest you look through some of the IFComp placegetters. Some of those through the years have not been written with young audiences in mind.

Early game FL is great. Unfortunately the grinding aspect becomes so high in later mid game I couldn’t deal with it. I do get they want to stop people speedrunning it and keeping them in game as long as possible for buying candles and the like, but when it becomes a chore to play it’s been overdone. It’s a common complaint I see people make that they stopped playing because of the grind. They have monthly story events that would be enough to keep bringing people back without the extreme grind seen in the later game IMO.
