The Sword of Rhivenia (Remake) (DEMO UPDATED 02/10)

Was he? All we know is that he was widely disliked. It’s not as though we have records of all the specifics due to how Scotland was in the 15th century.

Xavier’s scenario is so ridiculously specific that James I is the closest example, and it sure as hell didn’t turn out well. Even so, you’re still ignoring the fact that Xavier has no experience, education, connections, interpersonal skills to be a King.

What is there to back up? You have yet to give me a single reason why someone would like Xavier.

One of the main points we all missing is if Xavier wants to rule at this point. Ruling would mean he will have to deal with the people who held him prisoner and tortured him for the good of his kingdom anyway. If he was in love with mc and would be the king of rhivenia and have power over them maybe i could stand being around them maybe. But any other sisuation. No, I not dealing with them and wlll just need a break before doing anything for along time.

At this poin i think the sword is chosing the best out of a bad sisuation. Look at a siblins. Richard is an Attention- seeker that will attack mc no matter how kind you are and you stay away from clara. who i don’t trust not to back stab us. Atheris over violent and was will to posion people just to get at Richard she won’t betray us but need to be kept on a short leash. And Freya who just gave up, dating a pirate which will get us in trouble if find out and just have no idea what to do with. If the prevoius generations were like this than it was a no win sisuation. It’s not like the rebellion wont have happed any way. When Richard was in the king in the prevouis version they still rebelled and our cousin still came. Even without the sword and the king name a heir people would still rebel and civil wars between siblins would stll happens. so the way i see it the sword is no worst then name a heir.

I’m not ignoring these things. I have already answered that while those are shortcomings, there’s plenty of historical rulers who shared them, but assumed the throne regardless.

What is there to back up is your base assertion. I think if you make a claim, but then have to admit it’s basically a conjecture with no single example of such thing happening in reality, then it makes the whole angle pretty weak, and further discussion a waste of time.

I can’t recall - do we know the country’s opinion of the fact that her father skipped her in the line of succession? Thought I remembered people being surprised by it. One could imagine that fact would maybe make people talk/ think poorly of her…

If that was public knowledge and if she’s an unpopular ruler, I suppose there could be two scenarios making her brother a more attractive option: A) angry peasants could hope he’ll one day return and fix everything for them, a kind of lost heir savior scenario. B) dissatisfied nobles could want to remove her and place him on the throne as the “rightful” ruler / their own puppet, in which case his lack of education would be helpful as he’d need to rely on them more. Idk tho!

I chalk it up to good 'ol cognitive dissonance.

If the sword chooses a ruler that the people approve of, then everything’s working as intended. But if the sword chooses a ruler that the people don’t approve of or who stepped out of line? Then the sword was wrong and they need to revolt so they can get the ruler they wanted.

But they’re still going to listen to the sword next time because it’s magic and knows what it’s doing due to infallable magical wisdom. And besides, last time was just a fluke.

The Sword doesn’t choose the one that will be most popular or most kind hearted, it will choose who is most capable.

For example, Richard. Very popular with the people, seen as their champion, has a good heart. But as we have seen, very brash, an admiration seeker, cannot make decisions best for the kingdom. So the Sword didn’t choose him.

To counter, our father, Charles. Cold, stoic, scary man. Hated by the people for suppressing them and killing Francis. Yet he has been shown to be quite calculated, neglecting his whole family for the betterment of Rhivenia. The Sword saw him worthy, so Charles was chosen

Uhm. Thats off kelter then. If I play NICER than Richard. Cause I try to help people by not hindering Richard and I stop Xaviers beatings. Where Richard ignores that.

Two big choices at least. I also go against the brutish punishment of thieves.

That means I am worse than Richard, right?

I would somewhat agree but I think it’s important to draw a distinct line between Niceness and Kindness. Richard is nice because he send relief to the people but his main goal is selfish admiration which isn’t being kind for kindness’ sake. MC can release Xavier from abuse and torment due to kindness of not causing harm to another or MC can release him to be nice if hoping to further an alliance with Lena or Xavier. In essence, I personally think it’s not WHAT you do but WHY you do it.

There’s also an element of rebelling against a judgement or a ruling that is objectively wrong or does more harm than the harm it resolves. It’s not just kindness, it’s ethics.

I think it would depend on the circumstances to be both kindness and ethics. One could be kind but go against ethics or be ethical but go against kindness. in this story a good example would be the thief child scene. the kindness would preventing the child from losing his hand so he and his sibling wouldn’t starve. the ethical choice of the MC would be that the thief does lose his hand because that is the current acceptable standard for thieves in that country. many times kindness and ethics are contradictory, but in this case the author was able to make a small (somewhat unpopular to the gathered citizens) compromise of both by letting MC offer gold to both victim and lawbreaker.

Sure, roll with it.

Yes, to bad results. Which is not something that Lena should want. Because this entire discussion has been about whether Lena would abdicate

We are not talking about a real life, practical scenario. This is an extremely specific fictional situation. And Conjecture? Do you actually know what that word means? You have literally zero counter-arguments to prove it wrong. The one example you gave was literally the opposite of your point. Are you trying to say that medieval noblemen didn’t have anti-foreign tendencies? Are you trying to say that Xavier has the skills and education necessary to be a king? What argument do you have that Xavier would actually be liked by the people of Asinea?

There is one, very easy answer to your guys’ argument: we have not been to Asenia at all.

How can you debate on a topic that you have not and cannot explore, since the author has not let us explore the kingdom yet?

Ask yourself this then: is it ethical to render judgement without any examination of the circumstances? Because that’s what that situation came down to, the teenaged boy stole, and they were about to cut off his hand without even attempting to try and learn why he stole.

Richard absolutely would had been a shitty king as he would had been cucked around by his grandpa. He wouldn’t even have anything to say as his grandpa would had been dominating the politics of Rhivenia behind the scenes

True, true. However, now we’re gonna get cucked by Alvena (maybe) or our sisters XD

come on we aren’t losers like Richard. We are in change and will be doing the manipulating( alot in my case). And i would love to see freya of all people try. It would be like a rabbit trying to scare bear. I do wonder what everyone plans to do with Richard. I plan to not give him an postions of power without me having a close eye on him. After everything i don’t trust him with out being to constantly being a to keep an eye on him.

Ok, justice for Richard! He wouldn’t be any worse than any of the other siblings. And he seems like a good guy, even he’s been totally messed up by his childhood. But frankly, so have rest of the kids.

I’ll just restate my previous statement: the theme here is all the parents here are god awful and the children are a wreck.

Richard (and honestly, the heirs in general) hss been raised to equate his value to being picked by the sword. All he wanted was for his parents to love him, but Isabelle quickly changes her tune the second he does something she doesn’t like, making her love feel very conditional. Meanwhile, Charles outright calls him a disappointment and weak despite the fact he’s done everything he can think of to make his family love him.

Atheris is extremely temperamental, dangerously so, yet people around her outright encourage it. Girl’s extremely ruthless, willing to poison people just to “get at” her brother, and no one calls her out on it, except maybe the MC. Hell, Alvena herself notes her behavior early on, yet has seemingly done nothing, and pretty much has ostensibly written her off as a failure.

Freya, much like Richard, equates her value to her chance of being picked by the sword. Unlike him, Freya has, at least, enough self awareness to know the sword isn’t picking her. This means she already views herself as a complete failure and is unwilling to even apply herself, effectively making this a self fulfilling prophecy. And since she knows she’s a disappointment, she goes looking for love in the worst places, probably looking for someone that doesn’t “fit” like her.
