Sounds reasonable to me.
Ultra cheap.
5 gems = 0.99$
30 gems = 4.99$ (19% bonus)
130 gems = 19.99$ (29% bonus) Most popular one here
275 gems = 39.99$ (36% bonus)
750 gems = 99.99$ (49% bonus)
That’s the standard pricing.
Putting romances behind a paywall isn’t something I can get behind personally. But the magic options does make the most sense you could even work the gems into the story with the use of magic requires a gem in-universe.
Though tbf MMM isn’t my kind of game I am glad you found a home for it and I wish you luck with it
Oh boy, everyone “loves” microtransactions is there games, just look at EA! Everyone loves them for it. Especially when its for the things everyone wants.
To be fair though, I do think there’s a difference between an indie author who otherwise wouldn’t be able to make any money off of a piece of work that took months/years to make including micro-transactions in their game for side content so as to make any money at all, versus a company that already charges their customers for a full price game and then includes day one DLC or even locks the true ending behind DLC, like EA did with Dragon Age’s Tresspasser DLC.
I would advise to let players know ahead of time how many gems it would take to unlock a complete path though, whether it’s a romance path or a magic path, because I think that’s a lot less likely to annoy customers versus potentially letting them purchase 5 gems and then finding out halfway through that they need more. I know that would make a difference for me at least.
I hope it all works out for you Samuel!
EDIT: Forgot about the part where you got an advance, I still think there’s a difference between the two though. But that might just be me.
I want to have the ownership of what I spend my money. With this system, I don’t own shit and have no right to replays I am supposed to blindly spend my money follow a path I have no idea I even like If I found halfway I hate a ro because of a certain action. I am sticking to it by force except I want to burn out more currency. Then if game goes offline out service you have lost all as you don’t own the game.
I don’t play freemium games If I don’t have an option to buy it.
Still I wish you luck.
I don’t know how Tales operates with regards to those things. My comment was purely about micro-transactions and how I don’t think an indie writer putting in micro-transactions for optional paths in a game that sounds like it’s otherwise free is really comparable to a multi-million dollar company that charges its customers 60-80 bucks depending on where you live and then charges 15 or so extra for the real ending, among other things. Everyone’s welcome to have their own opinion on the subject though.
I have paid for each one of Samuel games including the options sound in second. .My problem is not with writers is with the nasty crap microtransaction system created to prey on people. It is a business system I hate but I totally understand is not Authors fault. Still is not something i will support. I want pay for the game and Owning it and playing all options when i want and restart when i want
Perhaps a one-time gem option up front to purchase all unlocks would be a good compromise? Like whatever the gem equivalent of say $5 (or whatever price you set) is would open all paths dor the player. And those who wish to play for free will still have the gem.options should they change their mind.
Yeah, I want pay the game out front. Even if this game i won’t play at all due triggering issues. I could buy it for support Samuel. It is sad, that both options arent available
Thanks for not blaming the author but one thing you may be overlooking is that there is no “upfront” chrage for the games, just in-game charges of varying frequency depending on which you go for.
@MadMinnie exactly what you said, no upfront fee. And as for paths, depending on the game there are some authors who use gems solely for extra stat increases, other games may be for paths or romances or true endings but it really depends on which one you are going for.
As I said before, go to the texting games if you want basically 95% of the game for no cost and like 5 gems for the rest. There’s your protip. Playing through some first before you formulate opinions is always the best route btw.
No, I oppose morally to that system I don’t care if ends cost one cent. It is immoral. I want to pay and own what I pay for. If I pay for an apple I want to make apple mine. Not start eating an apple and found Oh you have to pay it for a tasty one. If you don’t pay your choice are
A cockroaches
A bug
Poisoned apple.
If you put a money barrier to a choice are automatically saying rest is far less desirable. So if you want to have better you have to pay.
It is value an art piece like it were a piece of cloth.
I want to pay a decent price to pay for a book or a game and OWN it. Can replay it can play offline and possess it.
I don’t know what is rare it has been that way at least since old Greek
Uh… As I said, there is no upfront fee. You’re not paying for an apple then paying more for a tastier one.
As I stated, there are several stories that put gems only on free stat boosts AKA making sure if you don’t have the stats or resources necessary you can win anyway. So basically if you’re a bad player you can just win by cash rather then replaying and becoming a better player, aka casual pandering.
But… You can replay it offline and possess it. It’s an app, it is not online only… This is why I say you should probably go ahead and try it yourself before you formulate such a strong opinion on it…
This is a gentle reminder to please keep conversations directed at the topic at hand and not at the individuals themselves. Focusing replies on the individuals themselves instead of the topic at hand can lead to friction between members and often causes the thread to derail.
Please also remember that it is often not so much what ones opinion is that causes friction, but how one chooses to express that opinion. Using negatively-charged value words are a good way to start friction, as is generalization and sniping. Personal comments lead to friction and flaming.
This is in danger of becoming a circular argument. To avoid that: if you have already stated your position, please take a short break and allow others to share their perspective too. Please avoid repetitively hammering a single view without adding anything new.
Finally, if you see disrespectful posts please do not reply to them. Rather, please use the report feature and let forum staff deescalate friction.
I consider them immoral and a drug to children but I aggree this is of topic. So I will restrain to talk about micro transaction evil
Let’s pm talk about this then my friend.
So i dont have an apple device so i cant get it yet, but when tales comes to android i will play it. I have a question though. On tales, can i get gems form watching advertisements, or it it buying only?
Oh, my bad. I guess I’ll make $0 in royalties and tell my publisher they can take back the $10,000 advance.
Let’s be very clear here: all of you having a fundamental dislike of freemium apps is irrelevant to me. That is Tales’ sales model, and there is no option for me to sell MMM for a fixed price. So discussing it on this thread has little purpose but to give me a headache watching you guys circle jerk.
Not sure if it’s possible, but adding an "x"gems to buy the whole book option (as well an option just to buy what you want for a single playthrough like you planned) might work for well for you since you’ll probably get a crossover audience that is used to the HG system. Not sure if they can do that though with their buying options. (Not sure if that’s what you meant by not being an option or that it’s just not an option to pay in $rather than gems.)
Ya’ll Samuel’s just trying to get that cash yo, respect that. Why pay for the game up front if all you have to do is spend less for a few gems. Am I the only one not seeing a problem with it? Idk about everyone else but I’m supporting sam either way.
