The Myrmidon (WIP) (Minor update 03/10/2017)

Okay that’s my fault; I thought you meant people in their current lives. I don’t know why I jumped to that, given that the idea is stupid, but that’s what my brain leapt to. I’m having way more derpy moments than I’m proud of recently.

Plus, even if gene therapy is a thing 60 years in the future, it’s going to be mind-blowingly expensive until its commercialisation, which will probably take place decades after that.

That sounds rather ominous. But that would probably both sell out and negate the awe for a Myrmidon android. Be careful what you wish for.

I was approaching a hammy acting ratio of over 9.5 Shatners there, wasn’t I?

No honestly this story is sort of tied up in a much larger world now, one I’ve been building on and off for a year or so. The Dot-Tech is important.

Watch the Dot-Tech.

You know, every time I read one of your posts I get this “less teasing, more updating” feeling

I’m afraid I don’t follow, could you elaborate?

Hmm, it’s hard to pin down in words, but you’re pretty good at building anticipation for future content updates with the way you answer questions and post the teaser scenes. I end up with something like a kid in a candy store “I want it now” feeling

Well thank you for the compliment, I do have the manic disposition and unhealthy pallor of the Old West Confidence Man, selling snake oil for everything from Alopecia to Zinc Deficiency.

I’m afraid that the lack of substantive updates is a circumstance borne of a variety of factors truthfully. I work a full-time job that could generously be considered ‘not especially creative’, and in what precious little spare time I have I must devote a decent portion to maintaining my relationships, both familial and romantic.

I’m actually taking quite an active role in my family matters at the moment, leaving me with maybe 6 hours a week to use for my own purposes. Not only must all of my writing take place within that time, but it must compete with every other project I’m taking part in.

I’m writing a book set in the same universe but much farther away, I’m writing audio scripts, advising others on issues of world-building, scientific rigour and general editing. There are probably others on this forum who might attest to that better than I.

With all of those factors, actually diving into the guts of the Myrmidon is a difficult, time consuming slog that I just plain might not be in the mood to tackle at that time. I might go off-topic and end up writing something like this: Dropbox - Biomort First Draft.docx - Simplify your life

The teasers are used for a very specific reason, they keep me focused on this project. Keep me in this world. Add to that the interesting and incisive questions people have about the world and setting, and I get more grounded and invested in each of their personal struggles.

It also helps that bar a few sillier exceptions, these teaser scenes are actually being placed into the game, are actual fixed points in time that I can work towards. That’s very helpful.

I am sorry that my updates are so infrequent, I find choicescript a difficult medium to work in on good days. All that I can promise is my continued commitment to the world and it’s many permutations. Unfortunately I cannot offer anything more concrete for now…

@Moreau It’s as if I’ve had my eyes closed on these forums for years o.o How have I only just discovered the Mymidon? It seems the lands that you’ve aided in creating in Imortallia has truly kept me captive.

I’m glad to know you’ve put your ever expanding and overly intriguing mind and imagination to putting this game together.

I’ve not had the chance to open the tale yet, but soon as I finish my rest in Pesch it’ll be a pleasure to seek out the world you’ve crafted here.

I’m quite sure I couldn’t tell you, but yes here we are.

How fortunate that you should manifest exactly as I was discussing my previous world-building work. I must check in on you one of these days and see how much of it you used.

It will be especially impactful for me because when I worldbuild for others, I tend to put my own secret story in the background of the world-building to see if anyone notices.

Your assassin game had a transcendental dimension-hopping tale of redemption, apotheosis and the tortured soul of a man proclaimed by the eldritch forces to be the single bravest human being ever born.

I buried it pretty deep, in the hopes of unearthing it later if a sufficient amount of my material survived in your later story.

The one I left in your Legacy story was no fairy-tale either…

One is glad to be of service.

Do feel free to make yourself comfortable, won’t you? Someone will be along to take your order shortly.

Your boss and family should be more considerate of your awesome writing skills. Besides, since you’re a guy who can approach 9.5 Shatners easily have you considered a career in advertising, by any chance?

You have given him a good advice. He has achieved the record of a great Mara feedback and with the grumpy I am that’s a no small feat. Not that my opinion matters but even so a feat.

For the record, on both paths I found the story and the characters, completely intriguing

There are far greater odds of my boss hiring me as the company’s science-fiction writer in chief than there is of consideration leaking out of my family, but I find the thought entertaining enough.

Marketing, for my sins…

I am not being effectively utilised…

There should be some sort of trophy to accompany this. Perhaps one Oscar flaying another with some sort of Cat 'o Nine Tails?

The record shall so reflect. Thank you for the kind compliment.

I have gone for a day and the thread is overwhelmed with comments. Do tell if there’s any scandalous event that happened while I were gone. Did anyone die? Gone missing? Lost a limb? Yes? No?

Anyone capable of balancing a full plate on their head and spinning any quality of tale is someone to be respected and considered with quiet awe. The yarn you’re spinning here is a quality of gold that Rumplestiltskin would be hard pressed to coax from straw, so I have to wonder if you’re even human, sir.

…and I mean that in the best way possible.

All of these things and more have happened. Don’t worry, I’ve left a saucer of 1955 Beaujolais in your corner if you get thirsty/sober.

Feeling a strong urge to deflect honest compliments with humour…

Hrnggh…

Must… resist…

I once asked my Father that question regarding me.

Ever since he’s just been staring into the fireplace, laughing to himself malevolently…

It seems to upset the local dogs something fierce

Eventually we just threw a towel over his head, like you do when you want a budgie to go to sleep, but he’s still at it…

The realisation of this cruel world is too much to take in…and how sinful you guys are. Time to get drunk again. Though, I imagine this is me when I return/get sober.

The Myrmidon does have something of a darkest timeline vibe to it, doesn’t it?

The more I think about, in light of the discussion on the other thread, the more I think that Flash(droids) exclusively being attracted to men might be another point of divergence between him and the original Flash, who may well have been less picky about such things, considering the society he grew up in.
