Thanks to everyone for the congratulations!! @SharpOne and I are in the beginning of the editing process with COG staff and are greatly looking forward to turning this into an even better game! We’ve decided to leave the demo link of chapters 1-3 up for those who want to check it out or replay, but we won’t be updating it to reflect any of the new edits or additional chapters.

Once again, thank you to everyone who supported us; this community is a truly special place that both @SharpOne and I couldn’t imagine not having in our lives!

Actually knowing Chinese history I kind a hate both of them as people Liu Bang little more for how literally he would throw his children under the bus for power. Also making a woman that’s who Became his empress A person that should never been and 100 miles of any type of imperial power. I love Chinese history but the majority of dynastic founders are assholes in a way that can make some of the worst American presidents blush. Again I love Chinese history but they never good enough to fluff up besides personal power the legitimacy of their cause to rule. But the other and I love the game I love the estate management I leg of the title system and imperial rank it’s all wonderful and a great use of the source material. But I’m a sucker for more realistic China and goddamn romance of the three kingdoms. Romance of the three kingdoms and that’s romanticization is the China what is the Lost Cause to the United States it’s honestly something that should not have been glorified. That and Mao. But I do the degress game is wonderful I love it. If you ever do a game in the setting again instead of making you some you know super powerful chosen one make you oura normal person. It could be a pain in the butt because of gender roles but you cannot offer a very wildly different perspective of a game and different engines of power if you want to play that Avenue.

I just played the demo and I absolutely loved it. In my opinion this is definitely one of the best Choice of Games title(I am a bit biased towards the particular genre), amongst the ones that I have played so far. I am eagerly looking forward to it’s release. Any speculations as to when it will be released. Many thanks to the author(s) for such an amazing story.

Unfortunately, the author has no say when the full game will be for available for purchase since CoG will be the one handling the schedules.

A gentle reminder though, it is against the forum rules to ask for the release date since we don’t want to cause undue stress to the author/s and it is out of their control when this will be release. CoG will post the released date on the pinned thread on top of main forum but take note that those are estimates at best.

I hope you understand. =)

@Rogar Thanks for the feedback! SharpOne and I both enjoy China’s amazing history as well, but making a game that leans to the realism side seemed restricting (and honestly I’m a sucker for magical mayhem.) We also considered doing this from a normal person’s perspective, but that was also very limiting; a normal person doesn’t get any chance to influence politics or battle like an all powerful chosen one. :crossed_swords:

@Sagar_Anand Thanks for playing, but as @resuri08 said @SharpOne and I don’t decide when this will come out, and even if we did, I wouldn’t be able to give an estimate. We’re only in the beginning phase of editing so we can publish with COG and it could take awhile.

Well what a bummer. I am very eager for this game’s release, guess I will have to wait for a while. No pressure guys, take your time. :+1:
The setting of the story is interesting. I know this is a bit far fetched to ask but do you guys have any plans for a sequel or similar games.

P.s. Thanks to @resuri08 and @TwoSharp for pointing out that I shouldn’t ask for a release date as it could cause undue stress to the authors. Sorry about that.

@TwoSharp and @SharpOne could you guys add a cheat mode for increased stats and the like as I think it would increase the replayability of the game. Personally I play games more for their story than any other thing. Like for the first playthrough I would play in the normal way, but from the second playthrough onwards if there is a cheat mode, by which I don’t have to worry about the stats or the like, I would like that very much. This is just my personal opinion and if you guys do decide to add something like this then thank you and sorry for the resulting extra work.

Not sure if this was asked before but is this story going to be a trilogy? Or just the one book?

You’re kidding me of course they do looking at the founding emperor of Han take away all the propaganda of dragon relations and not somebody that got really lucky do you get into the position there and to even contender for the throne. If you go to do a normal person‘s perspective you have to give realistic goals hell you could make it generational. Think about China a list and against popular believe in the worst it’s not stagnant it is constantly in flux. You could follow a family of peasant farmers and over the generations they could slowly rise higher in the society. Also the reason the first dynasty fell was because the first emperor was very iffy about picking A successor because they a falling out with his oldest son. So through court politics and one very angry eunuch Will very deep grudge playing a very long game. It’s the eldest son killed has the week noodle of the second son on the throne and proceeds to dismantle the empire internally. Also to the early Dynasty or legalists and they had one very iffy law if you show up late as any type of government official a public servant bureaucrats soldier etc. if you’re late you’re executed. With the weakening of the government because a string of rebellion is among soldiers that weren’t able to show up on time. Also they heavy Taxation for the massive amounts of public works projects was another Huge issues.

But China literally has normal people rising high all the time both in it myths and very much real life. Also the founder of the Han Dynasty wasn’t a good human being but in is the defense majority of founding Emperor’s are not good human beings normally they killed a kid or two to get there and I wish I was joking. The reason for this being is because founding empires are full-blown warlords that mentality and normally the last emperor‘s on the tail end of a thrown our children or the mentally handicapped. Wednesday got screwed on the irony of the genetic lottery. What would normally happens is they would be demoted made a Marquis somewhere out in the province somewhere and then couple months later strangled to death poison starved etc. also the founding emperor’s wife of the Han Dynasty is the woman straight out of hell like Jesus I hate for the sole fact she ingrained into the cultural perspective of the ancient Chinese this is why we can’t have women in power. She literally screwed it for all the other princesses downline. I specially hate her for what she did to poor Liu Bang favorite concubine tortured and killed her in such away it’s stuff of nightmares that emotional broke her own son the second emperor of the Han. Realizing when his mother is alive he’s not gonna be able to do anything at and all he tried to do is protect his half brother and he failed in that.

Also guys this is the same time when treason would kill 16° of relation so entire clans would die if one person screw it up or happened to piss the wrong person off from great grandma to great great grandson uncles aunts and cousins in between. That’s why am always iffy about the classic Chinese glorification of these guys. They glorify the winners and demonize the loser immensely. And trying to weave through the propaganda is hard. Specially going back to the fact founding Emperor are bastards.

@Sagar_Anand and @Vanessa_Pang We’ve thrown around the idea of a sequel, but they would be indirect, so, more of an ‘in the world of’ type of sequel with a new PC. We’re still so early in the editing process that we haven’t even asked whether a sequel would be okay since this is going to be under the COG label. With that in mind we made this game with the intention of being a stand-alone (it has an epilogue chapter that’s pretty massive because of that).

As for cheat menus, for this game I don’t think so. It’s not because we’re against the idea; it’s that neither of us know how or have even looked into the idea (so if we learn more/how to do it then I wouldn’t rule it out for future titles). And now that Tale of Two Cranes is going to be a COG title, I don’t know how they would feel about it either.

@Rogar Your post made for an interesting and informative read so thank you! As for the normal/non-powered person perspective, @TwoSharp and I thought about it but the more we dove in the harder time we had of coming up with more diverse choices. Whenever I read about historic events I can’t help but wonder how these people managed such amazing feats (other times it seems like pure luck) and it seems impossible for the average person. I guess it’s just easier (for me anyway) to write more fantasy stories because it allows me to rely on those powers/elements and trying to come up with multiple and interesting choices for a normal person leaves me feeling less than smart :confounded:. But I think with some more work and experience under my belt that problem will solve itself :+1:.

I really love what’s your road and my knowledge of ancient China comes from Podcasts and the Cambridge collection. What the fall of the first dynasty is complex very complex and even with the fantastical elements in the background to my slight disappointment but overall you’re game fantastic.

So excited for its release >_< Just finished the demo and I’m really curious about Chan Ming and the second crane~ Will we have more chances to romance a character despite the uh, war going on? Ahaha

Cool! By the way, how long is the game?

It was a pretty cool demo, even if the whole mystic aspect isn’t really used, can’t wait to see where it goes from here

*you’re

Also I never touched her so she shouldn’t be reacting to the slap from another option.

No option to tell her to bugger off?

*lose

Seems like two results overlapped here: the girl says she’s “glad” that I neither agree nor disagree with her and then the boy interrupts his own paragraph with a striking tonal shift that more accurately lines up with my decision.

*affects

*choose

Reached the end! Despite all the typos I found, it really impressed me with the professionality of its writing. I’m not surprised it scored so highly in the competition.

Glad this game got second! It definitely deserves it! The Chu-Han Contention and rise of the Han (or Chu I guess) Dynasty is a fascinating choice to set the story in. At least in the West it is not as well known as the Warring States or Three Kingdoms era. I also like the addition of the fantastical elements. It is fun to be a master warrior like those in Crouching Tiger or Hero.
The alternative history (with the existence of Yongshi and I think far more gender equality) also has me intrigued. Did the first Emperor create the Imperial Yongshi? If not, what were they doing during the likes of the Warring States period? Specificly, what was your master up too that got them so respected? As the Qin dynasty only lasted 15 years, so she was likely up to things during the Warring States period.
Anyways, really enjoyed the demo and can not wait until the game comes out officially!

Just a quick question because I’m sitting here being indecisive as hell but: When the game talks about the pros and cons of Liu Bang and Xiang Yu, is that more to guide you so that the character traits/play-style can align with the Lord you decide to back? For instance Liu Bang seems to be more empathetic and merciful, so is choosing him better for an MC who thinks the same? Or can I temper Xiang Yu’s penchant for brutality with my calmer and more diplomatic MC (and would it actually help or does he just ignore people who don’t agree with him)?

Editing to add a minor issue I had.

I’m not sure if it’s been said before, but I’m playing as a Sage and so far have chosen all of the nice/refined/calm options. Yet in the early argument with Fang Lan after chosing to let her rant first before speaking my mind, it still says “She stares at me wide-eyed, her hand no longer cradling her cheek.” as if I had chosen the option to slap her.

Also, maybe I misunderstood but I thought a big part of being a Yǒngshì Sage was that you DID have empathy (what with the healing and the MC actually says “I see greatness born of empathy.” when choosing Sage). So it felt a bit strange during this part for the MC to lecture about the Imperial Yǒngshì not having empathy. Maybe something more along the lines of not wanting to pity/coddle Fang Lan would fit better?

Anyway, I enjoyed playing the demo and wish ya’ll good luck moving forward. o/

I have not played that much as Xiang Yu, but from what your master says he less easy to influence than Liu Bang, although Liu Bang also just does not like you for being a yongshi. I think it just more to guide you for what you want to do, and whose vision of China you like better.

@Jeeshadow1 Thank you! Yes I ended up going with Liu Bang first and man, he really does hate Yǒngshì lol. And it seemed it was easier to have diplomatic/non-violent actions accepted not only by Liu Bang but by his followers, because of his personal convictions so you seem to be right about that.
